Novak Djokovic sends notice to state of Rio de Janeiro over dues amounting to $650,000

Controversy’s favorite child Novak Djokovic has had a turbulent year, struggling with one problem after another. Fresh from the controversy surrounding his disqualification from the US Open, the World No. 1 now finds himself immediately embroiled in a new issue - this time in Brazil.

Unlike his other controversies in 2020 though, Novak Djokovic is seemingly the victim this time around. The Serb is reportedly yet to be paid his dues by the state of Rio de Janeiro, for a transaction that dates back to eight long years ago.

In a report by Brazilian daily O Globo, it was revealed that Novak Djokovic has once again requested the money - roughly around 3.5 million Brazilian Real - that is owed to him and his lawyers. This is a case that has been lingering since 2012, and yet the parties involved are no closer to finding a resolution much to the annoyance of the Serb.

Apparently this is about an exho vs Guga plus other small PR events in 2012 he was supposed to be paid $1.1 million for. Instead he only got 450k. Supposedly.

Can't read the article (all I get is a pic of Djokovic). What's this all about?

Poor Djokovic, man. It's hard competing with such a good person.
Federer is frolicking with glee in chocolate factories, inventing new orthopedic shoes for veterans, and joyfully playing on rooftops with Italien kids who just need a friend, all the while Novak is full of blood-lust, trying to crush the tracheas of old ladies who give all their volunteer time to officiating in the middle of a disease-ridden stadium, just to keep tennis alive.

It's Vader and Luke all over again.

When will this end!

COME BACK ROGER!!! SAVE US!!!

"Brazil, being one of the worst-hit countries by the COVID-19 pandemic, has been facing severe economic recession in recent months. The country, which already had enormous debts owed to a host of worldwide organizations, has been burdened further by the allegedly inept leadership of Jair Bolsonaro."

Sounds familiar?

Donald J?

Perhaps Brazil feels that Djokovic has been compensated well enough...

Show us one large country that is not in recession.

Every large country in the world is saddled with debt due to the pandemic hysteria generated by whiny disgruntled doomsday alarmist malcontents like yourself.

The good news is that Wall Street is near record highs and we are turning the corner. It is quite the miracle given those that are hell bent on destroying the economy to drive their agenda.

But America is resilient and always wins in the end. And you know who to thank for that!

USTA did some damage it seems.
Im sure the state of rio has leaked this at this time given how unpopular Djokovic is. Will not be surprised if we get stories of Djokovic enjoying the company of other ladies or something. Press is out to get him. I would think ATP execs out for him as well.

Djokovic is rightly owed the money but to be demanding it when Brazil is falling apart from COVID seems like very bad timing. Djokovic needs some serious sensitivity training....

Trust me guys, Nole is all about money. I'm all for money but I'm not as greedy as Nole. I'm happy with what I've got. It's why he founded PTPA: he wants more money. When you're married you want more money for yourself as a backup just in case.

When in doubt, one accuses Djokovic of very bad timing. Brasil is falling apart because of its own failings. The country is not getting better anytime soon.

There is no doubt - it is very badly timed. You admit yourself that Brazil is failing and is not getting better soon. For a rich athlete to be chasing after what is a nominal sum of money from a country that is falling apart is terrible PR.

The silly thing is that he will never get his money back because the legal system is flawed and corrupt. When the country starts doing something for its own people, get back to me on this question.
