On tennis channel, i just saw Murphy jensen stringing Nadal's racket with lead tape on top of the head. But that is not the best thing about it, it had Cortex. Now this definitely proves that Nadal has switched to Cortex.

If it was shown on t.v., it could have been easily a placed product by babolat, so i'm not convinced.

Actually Nadal's stringer was right there and Murphy was just being shown how to string the racket and where exactly Nadal puts his lead tape. and the Stringer himself said that this could be the very racket that Nadal wins the finals with. and there were many close ups and it was definitely Cortex beyond the shadow of doubt.

Where could you confirm that you saw this?

What was the name of the show? And which episode?

it was one of those rolland garros tidbits that they do in the middle of the match. i think this one was in the middle of Gonzo-Federer match. murphy went into the stringing room with Nadal's stringer and he showed Murphy what he does.

Ok right now, Tennis channel just started doing a rerun of entire day play from today. I have a feeling that segment will be rerun on this rerun. so stay in front of your TV set and watch the entire rerun and you will probably catch it.

the pictures of what nadal is actually holding in his hands are then worth a thousand and one.

Paintjob.

If you play with one day in and day out, you know the difference.

Yes, I play with one.

Paintjob.

I Hamburg his racket was NOT cortex !
A cortex stripe was painted to fool the cameras !
I had 4 of his rackets in my hands in the stringing room ....

I saw it also. The racquet in the segment was definately a Cortex. But, I'm guessing Babolat passed off the Cortex in the video so as to hide Rafa's PJ since all photos of him playing have the faked Cortex.
It was still interesting though, since they showed the lead being put on and a quick shot of the racquet on a scale. I didn't catch the exact weight though; I think it was in the 320s

P.S.: the weight in the video probably doesn't even matter since the racquet was almost certainly not really Rafa's.

Why is it so hard to believe that he is not using the cortex version? If you like the feel of the cortex use it, if not use the original version. Maybe he likes the new cosmetics but does not like the dampened feel of the cortex?

Or maybe Babolat want to sell more Cortex's so they paint his racquet to look like one. Thats my guess as to what they are doing

I think babolat is sending as a sample a AD with cortex leaded exactly as Nadal´s racket, just that in this case you can see the lead and it is a cortex racket. Probably this racket is the one he were stringing on the video. I think this is part of marketing estrategy to say: yes nadal racket is not stock but it is cortex. JMO.

Not sure, the stringer on the video says, this could be the very racket, rafa wins the french open with.

More to the point, the non-cortex version isn't even current/available from the company. So they want to sell the only current version of the racquet. Same reason car manufacturers don't put last year's version of a car in the new ads.

I think it's being WAY too literal to look at a set-up TV segment this way. Just because the stringer says something cutesy like that (presumably as instructed to by the segment producer) doesn't mean it has any bearing on reality. Until a picture emerges that shows Rafa clearly PLAYING with an APDC, the obvious conclusion is that he still uses the non-cortex version, as many photos have shown quite clearly.

TO OP:
It's called product placement so please do not take "reality" segments quite so literary.

yeah I saw this segment too and it did seem pretty believable but almost too perfect. The conveniently showed the weight on the scale, unstrung 320 and showed them putting lead on it which looked to be about 4in. and 2 strips that length. They even showed the inside of the throat and it said Rafa on it. Just seemed a little too perfect to me. Also the stringer and Murphy didn't seem to be in the stringing room but rather in a Hotel room which is possible but I'm not sure that Rafa has his done this way. I have to agree with the photo proof that it's not a cortex.

Well, Nadal does seem to be one of those guys who wants everything perfect. He has a routine he goes through, so....you never know. We need a spy with a video recorder to break in and see....Mission Impossible.

Why would Babolat go through all this trouble to deceive us (the viewers and fans)? If this is true, then they are worse than Wilson.....

It does NOT have cortex on it! how much proof do you need? There is a bloody picture of him playing with the painted cortex.

Not that it makes any difference, its not like the cortex actually does anything.

If I own a company. My company sponsors a top 3 player with a multi-million dollar contract. His endorsement brings me 10x as much as I pay him in product sales. I am going to accommodate him with his product requests, to just about any degree I can within reason. He is a world-class, professional athlete. A paintjob is within reason. A racquet made to his liking from my products are within reason.

Not only is it marketing to make money, its scratches both backs. The player has the performance he needs from my products and his endorsement of it sells my product.

Companies get into business to make money, not lose it. This crybaby mentality that permeates these forums is ridiculous.

If you want what Rafa plays with, heres the closest you will get. Buy the last version of the AD, the darker paint scheme. Send it to me for a paintjob and some leading. You will then have a perceivable representation of the his racquet. Not exact, but close.

Stop crying foul for top athletes using a product specified for them to help them compete at the worlds top level. You can customize your racquet. Its completely legal.

Move on.

What will you trust-- a TC commercial of "Nadal's" racquet being restrung or pictures of him actually playing with his true racquet?! Ugh...

did anyone ever see the video of Rafa that popped up when you entered Babolats website?

Eric Babolat is standing with Rafa and confirms rafa's statement that he had signed with the company for a further 10 years, he then asks Rafa what he likes about his new racket,

Rafa: "i like the feel of the cortex, it's very good."

those are not his exact words but close enough.... did Rafael Nadal, probably the most sincere tennis player on earth, lie?!?!?!?!?!

"I like the feel of the cortex" YOU DONT EVEN HAVE CORTEX!!!

DECEIVED WE HAVE BEEN!

i couldnt really give a **** but still.. shows that everyone can be bought for a price, even if its something as small as being paid to lie about a bit of rubber that isnt actually on your racket :)

Well, liking the feel of the cortex on his new racquet, doesn't mean he uses this new racquet to play you know.... I have many new racquets that I don't use...

BTW, I don't care what racquet pros are using... I won't use a racquet because of a pro
