Paire/Karlovic almost brawl at Citi Open

Wussy whining. What Ivo does is the ultimate macho tennis. He throws his knockout punch at you first. Players like Hewitt and Federer and Nadal dig down deep and battle Ivo. Players like Blake and Paire whine.

Karlovic is a deadly player, Paire obviously didn't take him seriously until it was too late.

"This isnt tennis, i should never lose to this guy" Ends up losing the match and came close to losing in straight sets. Karlovic isnt like Isner, he has been playing pretty well this year with his all court game and not just his serve. I know that serve-oriantated players are dismissed as not tennis but Karlovic is sat at #31, Isner is #12 and Raonic is #7.

Paire? #98 in the world.

Paire was #8 on the 2013 aces list, and actually hit more than Karlovic last year. If he had a mediocre serve he'd have a hard time staying in the top 100.

What a too Brad Gilbert is. I Knew he must have asked Dudi to stand up on the stool forcibly in the ESPN pre match interview.

Karlovic has made a nice comeback after his health issues a year ago. Finaled in both Newport and Bogota. Karlovic is too tough a customer to be flustered by Paire's mockery.

Paire needs to know that straight out tanking is not real tennis either, before he starts casting stones acting like poor sport.

What an idiot Paire is. Take your frustrations out by beating him not whining like a baby

Karlovic is a deadly player who can beat anyone and has beaten anyone on his day.

The funny thing is though, people here do the same thing. *Whine* Servebot! *Whine* This isn't real tennis!. Although I'm not actually the one playing, I can sort of relate to Karlovic. It's insulting to a player like Raonic or Isner or Karlovic when people say that.

Not trying to be a stick in the mud here, just want to make sure people here are holding themselves to the same standard they hold Paire to.

That being said, I'm not defending Paire but I can see his frustration in this scenario. Big serving is part of the game, but as the player on the other side of the court you desperately just want to be able to get into a rally.

Most of this board are socialist whiny wimps who want everything "fair".

Tennis fans I presume want to see aesthetically pleasing tennis, most of the past ten years has been dominated by the most aesthetically pleasing player ever...he's called Federer :). I guess thats the crux of it, what they want and what happens on the court are two different scenarios. Tennis players on the other hand should just play the game and be patient to break these players...not whine about it.

I've never seen Federer, Nadal or Djokovic moan about playing Karlovic or Isner...they get on with it. I do enjoy people moan about servebots though, I do it too....it's easy passing judgment whilst sitting in an armchair lol.

As fans, we have a right to whinge because we want to see Tennis that is entertaining.

As a player , Benoit has no reason to complain because he has a job to do well on the court and that is how he has to earn a living.

There is a difference.

I guess you forgot about Toni Nadal when Nadal had his derriere handed to him at WB... "This is not tennis, no???"

I'm sure Paire isn't alone in thinking if you play an Ivo/Isner game it's a lesser style of play; that if you can't hit all the shots at a certain level then you aren't as "talented". And frankly if everyone played the way Ivo plays tennis would be dull whereas if everyone played like Paire it would be interesting as far as I'm concerned.

While Paire was obviously completely unprofessional the sentiment that there is somehow a "right" way to play is neither unique to Paire nor restricted to the Ivo style of play. Back in the Borg/Vilas topspin days there was a different frustration. Vitas after losing to Solomon (I think it was after his loss at 1977 USO, which was on clay) complained that Solomon "didn't play right" because of all the "moonballing" or pushing as we kids called it.

FYI, it was 2010 and Paire/Lopez didn't play on court 4. They played on court 8. While I saw Paire prior to that in the qualies I also became a fan after that particular match. Paire is a very talented player but needs to be mentally stronger.

Well that came out of nowhere; what the actual **** are you on about?

As in WAHHHHHHH, Isner's serve is unfair! WAHHHH, this isn't OUR tennis!

Most of the people that gripe root for underdogs and journeymen, but the minute they DARE to crack the top, it's WAHHHHHH WAHHHH! Jerzy Janowicz was an example.

When he got to that Paris final, he was the NEXT guy. He was supposedly the one big guy that could move smooth as silk, while also having a big serve. The minute he cracks the big time, he's a "servebot" with a bad attitude with "no net game"

The top players are SO scrutinized, and mostly called boring. Mr. 130 in the world is exciting and "takes chances", while Novak and Andy just push the ball for five hours...never mind that 130 is 130 for a reason.

Seems a lot of tennis fans don't really understand the game and probably don't play competitively much or well.

If they did they'd realize and respect how hard it is to even win a match in even any local tourney. Tennis is a very challenging sport on so many levels. Many simple fans don't and never will understand this.

Again...fat, lazy whiners.

They are the types that, even if they DID play, they'd be 4.0 level playing 3s because they want it easy

^^^ Yeah - d-bag deluxe. When he plays shorter players I'm sure he'll start spinning in serves - not.

But hot girlfriend they keep showing in the crowd tonight in TO. So, in Charlie Sheen lingo, he's #WINNING.

Paire isn't the first and he won't be the last to publicly complain about losing a tight one to Ivo or Isner. Can only imagine how many players complain behind closed doors.
