Player ratings after Wimbledon

Legend
Now that Wimbledon’s done, it’s fair to start speaking on the top players, grading their season so far, how it can be improved, etc… So here’s some grades on the top players and what they can do going forward

Alcaraz - 10/10
Alcaraz has had close to an all-time ATP season. He’s making the SF/F of every single event he’s entering, won 7 titles in 10 attempts this season, and has been tussling for World no.1 with Djokovic the entire season. Before Wimbledon, I had him at a 9.5, with a half point taken off for the loss to Djokovic at RG, but now that he has won Wimbledon over Djoker, he’s had a 10/10 season.

Djokovic - 10/10
In the ATP tournaments he hasn’t necessarily been playing well, and he did lose to Alcaraz at Wimbledon. But you can’t argue the slam haul. 2/3 this season, and the one he didn’t win was a final loss in 5 sets. He continues to epitomize what it means to be a big player. 10/10 season so far.

Medvedev - 9/10
After a really bad 2022, Medvedev has finally started looking himself again, and has set himself up to potentially fight for the world no.1 ranking with Djokovic and Alcaraz. Winning Miami, his first M1000 on clay in Rome, and climbing from 14 to 3 in a few months, Daniil is back to where he should be, and with the hard courts in America coming up, the gap between his return to the world No.1 spot is closing. Gets points knocked off for his first two slam performances.

Ruud - 6.5/10
It’s been a pretty unspectacular season for Casper Ruud. Lots of early losses in tournaments and only won win in Estoril. He gets points back for his strong performance at RG, reaching the final. Still holds onto his top 5 spot.

Tsitsipas - 5.5/10
Similar to Ruud, Stefanos Tsitsipas’ season has been quite mediocre. No top 10 wins and no titles so far. He’s clinging onto his top 5 spot by a fingernail, with Rune and Rublev breathing down his neck. Gets points back due to his strong AO showing, reaching the final.

Rune - 8/10
Holger Rune is having a strong season and has climbed to world no.6, on the verge of entering the top 5. He’s had a good clay court season and has a title in Munich. Will be an interesting second half of the season for him.

Rublev - 8/10
A season of firsts, Andrey Rublev won his maiden Masters title in Monte-Carlo, and is once again consistently going deep in ATP tournaments. Will look to begin going deep at slams from now on.

Sinner - 6/10
A lack of improvements from Jannik Sinner is dragging him down. He’s made no significant improvements from his 2021 and 2022 seasons, and his close matches with Alcaraz is looking more and more like he’s a bad matchup for him, not a genuine slam contender. Still has yet to win his maiden masters title.

Fritz - 4/10
It’s been a pretty uninspiring season for Taylor Fritz. He did squeak into the top 5 earlier in the year but his form has been pretty subpar for his standards this season, he’s still in the top 10 but might be out of it soon.

Tiafoe - 8.5/10
Frances Tiafoe has had a splendid year. Two titles, one on grass, and he’s entered the top 10 in the rankings going into Wimbledon. It’s been a solid season of improvement for Frances and he’ll be glad to know that the tour is now shifting to the US after Wimbledon, where he’ll be a crowd favorite and should continue his high level production.

Khachanov - 8.5/10
Karen Khachanov has had a fantastic season on the ATP tour. He’s reached the QF or better of his last 3 slams and is on the cusp of a top 10 return after 4 years. He’s played fantastic tennis when he needs to and he’s been one of the more exciting names this season.

Auger-Alliasimme - 3/10
Disaster. Felix finds himself out of the top 10 and out of contention, losing in the first round in almost every tournament he’s playing. He did make a R4 at the Australian Open where he lost to a lower ranked opponent. With the indoor season, and a LOT of points to defend, coming up, Felix may soon be sent on a spiral if he can’t figure out what’s happening to his game.

Other notables

Zverev - 7/10
Solid comeback season so far and with no points to defend anymore, Zverev may expect to be back in the Top 10 by seasons end.

Struff - 10/10
New CH after a nightmare few years with injuries, one of the best comebacks I’ve seen on the ATP tour.

Eubanks - 10/10
Stuff of dreams, Mallorca W and a Wimbledon QF, joining the elite 8 club. Was only points away from beating Medvedev in the QF too, a former world no. 1

Kyrgios - 0/10
Disaster. Injuries have ravaged him all year and he still can’t find his way back to the tour.

Thiem - 3/10
3 years on since his US Open and 2 years or so since he really started struggling with injuries. Another poor campaign on tour so far, it might be time to call it in for Dominic.

Nadal - 0/10
Disaster. Injured the entire year, lost his second match at the AO and hasn’t shown up since. Has had to watch Djokovic take the slam lead away for him. Announced that 2024 might be his final season.

Monfils - 0/10
Disaster. Injuries, poor form, and age have contributed to the indefinite decline of Gael Monfils. We may be looking at a retirement announcement shortly.
