Prestige Mid to become the racquet of the 2020s.

Got access to a new unstrung one and was able to string it up, so I went with the same as in my Blade - Tourna Silver 7 at 48#s. Brought them both out to the court. The situation - beautiful courts but zero shade. On court temps were hovering at 100 degrees. No shade at all. Zero. Great way to test a frame and my fitness, especially since I hit with my coach who pushes me hard in drills.

Ive just hit with the Blade for the past 8-9 months so when using the Prestige I have to admit I missed the super soft feel of the blade and how solid it is. I also missed the connected feel I get with the 18x20 pattern. I am so used to that feel of the frame and personally think the Blade truly feels like what you would picture a pro stock racquet to feel like - solid, super comfortable and has a lot of plow.

The Prestige does not have that level of plow. At first I was thinking “damn you jolly“, but I started to see what he meant when he said that the prestige has easy power. It really does. It’s not bludgeoning plow like the Blade, and honestly I know I need to add some weight (like 2 grams I think) to the tip, because at times I was not able to control the frame as easily as with the Blade due to the lower Swing weight. That said, it was very easy to drop the frame under the ball and hit deep with very heavy spin and more net clearance. I don't want to make this frame as clubby as the Blade, thats not what it does well, but it could use a little more plow In my case.

Drills we did - I had to hit 50 balls that landed in the alley. For Accuracy, both of these frames are fantatsic. I got to 50 in about the same time with both. The Prestige gets the nod though because the depth is better. I am able to hit deep and not long as often as I sometimes do with the Blade.

We did volley drills. I suck at volleying, but I was able to hit cleaner volleys easier. This is not a huge surprise to me. Overheads were also extremely easy. Automatic, really.

Then we did drills where I hit to the ad side of the court and get the alley. So basically I have to hit winners i/o or with my bh. This is when I really stated dialing in the frame. My heart rate was lifted - 160 BPM or higher a decent amount of this time. The heat was crushing. This is basically when you say “F It, I’m done”, but I was able to hit some of my biggest shots in this moment. A lot of that has to do with my fitness - I have been putting in serious work, doing HIIT almost every day. But the other smaller part was that it took a little less effort to hit big shots, so I was able to really tee off on shots that we either clean winners or shots he could not handle and framed. He said the spin was crazy on some and laughed at how high the ball was getting up in the air off the bounce on a few.

At that point I had hit the 90 minute mark and 900 calories later I was done. I’m going to try and do it again tomorrow so I can get some serves in, weather permitting.

Thoughts - this racquet is really not that hard to use. I think the Blade is more advanced - yes really. The prestige comes through so fast that I can hit running forehand winners when pulled wide. Some were so nice that I was shocking myself, to be quite honest. My 2h backhand is weaker than my FH, and I had literally lost my backhand last year. This coach fixed that for me, and I was able to hit my backhand with the prestige without thinking about. It was flowing and I was even able to hit some really nice angled winners with it. Also overheads are effortless and super easy. I feel like that should translate to serve so I am excited to try that.

The main thing I need to dial in with the Prestige is that it may be a bit whippy for me. So just a little lead up top could fix that. I still need to spend time with it and see. Also I dont think silver 7 is the best fit for the feel of this frame. This prestige is crisper than I am used to with the Blade, so I think Max Power rough will be a better option to make it a little more plush. I also have to factor in that the frame had not been strung up, so the first string job always feels a little brassy.

Comfort and feel I still have to give to the blade. The solidity and plushness of the Blade is fantastic. I never feel like I played tennis after. The Prestige has great feel too, but its still something I need to dial in.

Anyway, really impressed with it so far, not sure which one I would choose. I love the Blade so I’d stay with that if you put a gun to my head right now. That said, I have months of tennis to figure it out.

The #1 takeaway that I would say - this is the easiest mid to use possibly ever. It honestly to me is a less advanced frame than the Blade. If you ever wanted to try a mid but didn’t want your level of play to go down, now is your chance. Just be honest with yourself and asses your fitness level and desire to move on the court and set up (but this wins tennis matches anyway!!) I honestly think my level of play went up a little bit today due to this frame being easier to use. Ill post more thoughts after more time with it.

@Power Player jolly and I wouldn’t steer you wrong. :)

I know, I knew it was good when you all were raving about it. I‘m still iffy about the feel of it, but I think I chose a wrong string match. I was just expecting something more buttery and plush, but I do like how well I can feel the ball. So it works and makes sense.

Forgot to mention, this frame is loud. Sounds like a tennis match when you start cracking with it.

I was planning on hitting against the local parking lot wall with the Mid. Finally got some court time w the wife so that was a plus.

I tend to really suffer when I take time off from tennis and this quarantine did me in. I did have some trips to the parking lot wall which helped but I also suffer from what seems like a pinched nerve. Some days I have no control of my forehand. It seems to shake through the stroke and forgets how to move. I can slice or block okay. Serve and BH are fine.

Also I'm just over a year out from my Aortic Dissection repair surgery. In January I was in a groove and feeling really happy with my tennis but I still have to take breaks. My medication throws me for a loop. I need to have good food before I play to keep my BP stabilized...otherwise I feel like I'm going to pass out. Yesterday was no exception and it was a struggle. Wife says I was looking pale...but at dinner the color returned to my face.

okay...enough blah blah blah

I usually hit a new racquet in stock form with synthetic gut to get an honest feeling of the racquet. During quarantine, I was weight/balance matching a number of my racquets and also adding silicone to some. I put a leather grip on 99% of my racquets and went ahead and did that to the Mid...and also added silicone WHICH in hindsight I should have waited on. Luckily these mods worked in my favor and I enjoyed the racquet. I also added some lead at 12 on one to match the weight and balance. Both felt pretty identical on the court when playing. One was with synthetic gut and the other with Head Rip Control and I believe I strung it at 45# CP.

Racquet swings pretty fast with it's very HL balance. Feels stable and there was some nice ball action. Flat and kick serves weren't bad either. Pretty comfortable. You definately need to be prepared. When my lack of fitness and BP started to become an issue this racquet was tough to play with. I feel that when I get my tennis fitness back this will be something I will enjoy hitting. Strung it was at 347g. And this thing does hit bombs in comparison to some of my other racquets.

I also brought out my iPrestige MP which I used to play with often before I got sick and it had a similar feel but with a little lower launch angle.

Not quite sure if this will find a spot in the bag just yet. Need to put in quality court time to tell. I'm optimistic about this racquet though.

It’s about as soft and buttery as a modern player’s frame with a 65RA is gonna feel. I think the higher RA and stiffer top part of the hoop is the source of the higher power level and the reason why it makes the big boom at contact. But it does take away from some of the soft and buttery goodness that a PC600 has. That’s why I said it is probably the closest feeling modern player’s stick to a PC600. Still not the same feel, but definitely easier to use.

Yeah for sure and I can make peace with that. I think the extra crispy Tourna 7 and brand new grommets doesn't help either so ill go to my max power next and add a little lead at the top and im sure that will help. The Blade v7 is just so solid and soft that it magnifies the difference with anything else. Plus this string pattern in a prestige is a trip, I still need to get used to it. ts not even like the Prestige doesn't feel great - it does. I just have to get used to that crisper feel. The Blade Clash tech is so damn soft and it's all I really use so it's an adjustment there.

But yeah, the ease of use, ability to hit huge spin forehands almost like it's a Bab cannon, but it's a midrange 93 is really crazy. And that is why I think for a 4.0 and up fit tennis player, this frame is a viable competitive option. It did not feel like a hindrance or disadvantage, but possibly an advantage instead due to it's free power and speed through the air.

@Power Player interested in reading your thoughts on how the prestige mid compares to the 93p.

93P has a lot more weight so its going to feel more solid and hit a huge ball with no lead. The Prestige is better for faster and more aggressive low to high swings. It generates a heavier ball with less effort but doesn't plow through the ball on a flatter swing the same as the P93. Both are insane at net and for touch shots.

Old school feel , flatter ball power - 93p
Control, Spin (heavy spin shots that stay deep and in) - prestige
Power - P93 has the plow, but the Prestige gives you some of that free power that you experience when using a Pure Drive type frame.
Ease of use - Prestige (P93 is a fairly demanding frame thats made a bit easier to use due to it's size and perfect balance)
Volley - Both are god like
Serve - TBD, but I strongly suspect the Prestige may be a goat serving frame, based on how easily I was hitting OH's over the fence with no effort.
Slice - slight edge to P93, but both frames are diiiirty for slice, and I do mix in slice a decent amount.
Touch - Both are elite here. Drop shots are going to go where you want

The prestige - you can hit legitimate bomb forehands with. It's pretty wild. Looks like Ill be able to use it again tomorrow AM.

During the confidential play test I was hitting really well with the Pro Kennex Redondo 98. That racquet is no slouch. I was able to demo the 93p and i was in good rhythm that the transition felt seemless. I was hitting a very happy ball with the 93 (string unknown)

Hope to get back into the playing level and see how the Mid works out for me.

I think the v7 is a great racquet. It is spec'd lighter and more even balance compared to my Redondo. I was playing all morning with the Redondo (before the pandemic) and after lunch I went to the v7. i missed the plow of the Redondo and had to re-adjust. The flex in the Redondo does feel like in a different place than the v7...more old school.

I didn't even know there was a Redondo 98. Wild.

It's funny, the flex in the v7 feels like old school Head to me. Feels like my PT280. Very muted.

So it's cool to have a prestige that is a bit crisper and more open. I can see what I like better over time.

it was the 2019/2020 model through a demo...that's what perked my interest recently. I hit with the one I got from you and it is a blast. if it's any indication that the Mid plays better than the 93p, it's going to be a fun racquet.

I'm also excited that it is a slightly lighter static weight than my tc95 and a 16x19...but has the 8 mains in the throat.

i could have my flex comparisons off...but if you ever get a chance to hit with a Redondo MP...go for it. I can't say anything about the Redondo Mid (yet)

Is that an older model? I tried the old one, its really low powered. Feel was freaking fantastic though. I thought they may have came out with a revised one.

Is the Touch Mid as good since the specs are the same (maybe not the 360 tec, but roughly the same)? Or is the 360 tec a make it or break it?

Getting my hands on a friend’s 360+ pro this weekend to compare against the mid. According to what I read here I should throw the thing in the trash instead of swing it. I also remember the touch pro being solid but very “pingy” even with dampener.

Anyone here had any positive feedback with it? I can’t find any in other threads either.

I personally bought one second hand along with a Phantom 93P. I'm waiting for them to arrive.

I got another 90 minutes in today. Surprise, it’s still insanely hot in south FL. I am now in tourna grip weather - 75% and up humidity.

Served with it today. My shoulder was hurt a while back and I had not served in over 6 weeks so I went nice and slow. Immediately noticed that it was very easy to hit a wide slice serve on the deuce side. So the spin is there. Later on I fired off a few flatter serves. I love that feeling of the frame kind of folding over the ball when you really hit one well. Old prestiges do that, and this one does it too - nice. Great serving racquet. You can honestly second serve a whole match if you want to focus on placement and spin and you will still be able to set up a good first strike ball most of the time.

I was hitting a lot of spinny second serves and following them into net just for the practice. Was able to pick up shoestring volleys and I basically felt very comfortable rushing the net.

Groundstrokes felt great on both sides again, so no problem there. My coach said I outhit him today, and I just need to cut down on stupid mistakes (not the racquets fault). Also, he has not asked me to switch back to the Blade, which is a positive sign. When I had the Blade and YY HD 18x20, he told me to sell the YY after one hour.

Racquet is feeling better with the strings settled in, but I think I need to go to Max Power rough next. The tourna is pretty stiff and crisp, which works great in the Blade, but for me its a little too much in the Prestige.

One other thought is the depth is really good - like crazy good. A lot of shots I normally hit a bit long with the blade were staying in. I think that is due to a little higher tip speed plus the more open pattern.

I haven't yet had an oportunitty to hit with a prestige mid since the old IG ones. I might give it a try, but for now, prices for racquets in my country are crazy high.

I guess, I’m not really into announcing a switch or anything like that. Ill just continue to carry my Blade and Prestige to the courts and just play tennis. It will sort itself out. I love my Blades still. Also the Blade is very easy on my arm, so thats important just in case injury pops up.

The old IG PRestiges feel amazing, like butter. But if you play with a modern grip and ball shape, they are way harder to play with than these new versions.

@Power Player i figured you’d like the prestige mid. That’s why I recommended you try it. Wouldn’t have bothered otherwise.

Yeah it was a good call. I was intrigued in the past just due to the pumped up SW and the sick PJ, but I didn't think about it past that. The Blade really has been such a great racquet. But it's nice to have something slightly different.

I weighed this one and it's 317 unstrung. So a little under weight. I added 1 gram at 12 to it to start and it was fine. It is still whippy, but manageable. Not sure the SW, but I'd guess it's probably at 328-330. I have another coming and if that one is on spec and plays much differently I will try a little more lead.

The free power of this frame basically leads me to think I don't need the SW that much higher. Also the depth I am getting on my shots is about perfect right now. So I will stay as/is for now.

So I got some court time yesterday with a GTPM I picked up on the TW sale and first impression was, well, meh. I know it is not the well reviewed 360+ mid, but I was hoping this one was not too far off.

To be fair the playing conditions were total crap, 20-25mph winds at start and it progressively got worse as winds continued to pick up. I also strung the racquet inadvertently higher than my usual tension which added insult to injury. Played a multi/poly hybrid and long story short I ended up stringing at 53lbs on the mains where I typically dabble between 48-50lbs on my K90s.

In any case, the racquet swung very easily, attributed to possibly 10-12 SW points lower than my current spec, but the feel on contact was a little tinny and pingy. It also, to me, felt a little stiffer yet lacking plow when compared to my K's and the 93p's I demo'd months back. It was not uncomfortable by any means just "felt" stiffer. I'll blame that a little on the string tension and the fact I was hitting against the wind. I'm going to give it a better assessment this weekend to see if I get better dialed into it. I really want to like this stick. I'm also planning on adding a little lead to bring the SW closer to my liking.

Edit: FWIW I just measured some specs and it stands at 342g static, basically 32cm balance, and 338 SW measured with the SW app.

I faced the same issue with the tinny/ping sensation when I first tried the racquet with 18g. I was used to using 18/19g polys on my older Pro's and I was able to get closer to the feel of that by switching to 16g's. Tested at 48 and 53lb and I settled at 53. 48 on this guy felt like a cannon. A lot of the pinging went away (without dampener), and since I normally use a dampener, the end result was a pretty poppy response from the racquet. Just my 2c - hopefully it might help.

The mid is not a stick to use in windy conditions. I just got back from playing in blustery conditions. My legs were tired from playing and coaching 8 hours in the last 2 days. This was my 10th hour on the court and my legs were dead. Was struggling with the mid. Switched to a more forgiving stick. The clash 98. So much better.

I don't think it was an issue of being able to handle the mid in the crappy conditions, it was the feel I got from it during them. I'm used to a beefier racquet, but yesterday I was fighting the conditions + adjusting to the response of a new racquet. That made for an unfair demo. I'm hoping for better controlled conditions next time I get out there with it.

Yeah im not sure there is a frame that could really aid me in wind like that. Heavy wind just sucks. 25-30 is seriously bad.

My first hit with the prestige it felt a bit like how you are describing yours. Its stiffer than you would think of a classic prestige. That said, the grommets are settling in on mine and it felt better today. I also think i chose too crisp of a poly.

Hitting through the ball feels fantastic though. Once you get better conditions and get those clean shots in, the frame will probably be more enjoyable.
