Prestige Mid to become the racquet of the 2020s.

Can anybody compare to Angell TC95 16x19 re feel, power, precision, manoeuvrability? I like almost everything about the TC95 except its high launch angle due to the open pattern and wonder, whether the Prestige Mid would be a viable alternative.
Thanks.

I was playing the TC95 16m 63RA for a while and often still use it. I have it unstrung at 327g 12 HL. I think my Prestige is about the same specs with leather and 5g silicone but don't recall ATM. Will check when I get home.

lower launch angle - Prestige
Plow - Prestige
1st/flat serves - Prestige
2nd/kick serves - TC95
control/point and shoot - Prestige

I think it is one to consider.

enjoy

TC95 16/19 has more power and the feel between the two is different - the Mid felt a little tinny, but not unpleasant. It is more maneuverable than the TC95. Also the TC95 has bigger sweetspot. The launch angle of the Mid is ok, lower than TC95.

Wholly $h1t!, what a racquet! I took it out for the first time today and it was exceptional. I tried the new ProStaff 97 V13 and went straight back to the Clash 98. I really was unimpressed with the new V13 ProStaff and I used the countervail version for almost a year. That new string pattern pisses me off and it had no power whatsoever. The Blade Pro hit a good ball, but felt clunky and unwieldy, the effort that it takes to drag this racquet into contact does not pay off as much as the Prestige's easy power.
This Prestige Mid feels similar to the Clash 98 to me except that it is more precise on all strokes and the feel is amazing. I also didn't notice/feel the difference in head size between the Clash 98 and this 93 sq, in. racquet while hitting...other than the obvious beam thickness.
The backhand feels incredible, both driving it and slicing it. Just set up and unload.
Volleys were sublime, so much feel to it.
Serves...bombs. Three feet up the back fence easily. This was the case for the Clash 98 as well, but this Prestige offers more control.
Forehands felt really good, but this stroke is going to take me a few times out with it to get the launch angle figured out a bit more.
I am immediately buying a second one. This is the racquet that I will change to.

Never would I have imagined that a racquet with a 20mm beam could deliver that much easy power.
I have never used a Head racquet before now, but I am really impressed with some of the smaller details like, they mark where the tie offs are etc.
If any one hasn't tried this frame, which I imagine everyone on this thread has, this would be one of the first frames that I would demo.

Below is hitting with the old ProStaff 97, it was nice doing business with you Wilson, but you need to step up your game.

Can we get some new mid gaslighting? I'm getting bored

Ok, having a tough time lately, nothing to really play for. Working on some technical stuff with my strokes, trying to figure out how to serve, and playing my friends isn't so inspiring. Plus work is insane, I keep randomly getting hurt and am not too keen on gym going right now.

Anything in particular you would like?

If you like everything about the TC95 16x19, except the launch angle, then why not get a TC95 18x20 63RA? It will feel identical but with a lower launch angle. For me, the TC95 18x20 is one of the best racquets I have ever tried.

The G360+ Prestige Mid will be more maneuverable and more precise than the TC95 16x19, but I'm not sure about the power (as I have only played with the Mid for very short bursts when borrowing it from a friend). Furthermore, for me personally, the Prestige Mid felt firmer than what I like if polys were used (I much prefer the G360+ PMP), firmer than the TC95 16x19 (and the TC95 18x20), and only felt better if it had gut or syn gut or multi in the mains. With the other racquets (TC95 16M & 18M, and G360+ PMP) I had no problem using polys (feel-wise), and things only got better if I used a hybrid set-up with either polys or gut/ Syn gut/ Multi in the Mains.

Hope that helps

Meh, similar boat. Not much to play for, the weather sucks, and feel like i own the best sticks retail has to offer.

if the mid is still the frame for J011y, that’s enough reinforcement.

Found this old picture of him using an IG prestige or at least something with an IG pj, maybe an ig pro? No clue as the link is blocked.

Yeah it kept blocking the link for some reason. Funny though - doesn’t seem very common for players to switch away from Yonex these days right?

I wouldn’t personally if I had a deal with Yonex. They have the best pj’s in my opinion and have some cool players. Plus they are a brand I would personally want to represent.

Who is Alex Bolt? Looks like he went 4 sets with nobody first round in AO and then got drilled by Dimitrov in straight sets 2nd round. The chick in post #1697 is more interesting.

Anyone have a direct comparison between the prestige mid and extreme tour? I’m loving the mid but feel I need a little more real estate when coming over the top with my one handed backhand against heavy topspin shots.

What’s your set up on your G360+ PM, if any?

interested in this as well.

Hit with the ET on a demo day. Felt fast swinging and also solid at the net while helping out with drills. The Mid to me does feel solid at the baseline where as the ET felt a bit light and less plow. Maybe some leather and lead can fix that on the ET. I am interested in an extended demo

Lead at 12 is the only change I made. Plays 12.3 oz 7 pts HL. Tried black knight/ghost wire 17g at 48/48 and was slightly overpowered for me after initial tension loss. Going to string full bed black knight 17g at 50/50 next.

The extreme tour was about 20g too light for me. The prestige mid I can just string, grip, rip and repeat.
Yeah that seems to be the consensus of what I am hearing. I plan to lead it up to similar specs as my mid.

I’m still using Black Knight at 49/49. Strings have been in my frames for awhile.
Have 4 of these frames. They are all within a 2g span static weight. Have to love that.

Interesting. Ever tried putting lead at 3&9? You said that the strings were slightly overpowering after initial tension loss, how’s the weather over where you are at?

I never have tried putting lead at 3&9 before. Black knight/ghost wire played great at 48/48 for about the first hour then started to loosen up. I measured a 4.4lb difference from beginning to end of the first 2 hour session and tension stayed consistent for the next 2 hour session. I like to flatten out my forehand for winners and this was the shot I was either hitting the baseline or missing long. Normal rally balls were fine but I just wasn’t able to step on the gas when I wanted to with my forehand. Weather is slowly warming up (mid 60s).

I suggest you to try it out if you are having stability issues. Interesting about your experiment. I assume you tried the tension during at night, if so, it may due to the humidity for the loss of tension. Almost 4.5lbs is a lot only after a 2hr session, imo.

Let’s hear it

Ok, so feel is no contest. The Prestige feels more solid and has more direct feedback, the Extreme is more numb but more forgiving off center.

On the power/spin ratio the Prestige sits right in the middle, it wants to hit a fast ball with heavy rotation. The Extreme naturally generates spin and is almost comical in its ability to bend the ball but takes some conscious effort to flatten the ball out.

It's not that the extreme lacks power, it's just that it naturally gravitates towards spin, when you decide to flatten one out it goes plenty fast.

The Prestige is a comprehensively great serving racquet, but spin serves with the extreme are comical.

On the volley the Extreme is more of a point the racquet where you want the ball to go and block it while the Prestige is more suited to going through the ball at net while still giving good feedback on touch shots.

thanks for this.

been tossing around ideas between the ET, Radical MP, and Radical Pro. Still enjoying the Mid but looking for something lighter/forgiving for when not putting the gas pedal down like when I use the Mid

First I saw Bolt was last year in the AO, where he took Thiem to 5 sets in the second round. For sure Thiem didn’t play his best. (Actually he had very recently brought Muster onto his team, but fired him after that match - in the middle of AO - LOL).

Thanks for the review. I’m curious how the extreme tour plays leaded up. Stock weight seems a little light. I like the mid around 350 grams strung.

-ive come to differentiate the extreme and prestige as follows:
-if you like to swing ,"at the ball" then the extreme is for you!
-if you like to swing ,"through the ball" then the prestige is for you!
-i am a old-school, flat-ish hitter that hits through the ball, soo heavy/solid with plowthrough is what i like
-even the heaviest of the extreme.pro ,(i have) is not heavy enough for me, but boy oh boy does it have easy power and spin!!
-the h.extreme line is comparable to the w.clash line, fun sticks to play with
-if i was feeding balls all day, i would use the h.extreme

I have been working on being more aggressive on the backhand side by coming over the top more on my OHBH. Hitting over high kicking balls my miss is on the bottom of the frame and this results in weak high spinning shots landing around the service line that better players are taking advantage of.

Playing with the mid I was thinking I might need a little more real estate, but it was suggested I try lead at 3&9. My mid plays roughly 350 grams with 2 grams of lead tape at 12 o’clock. I took the 2 grams off at 12 and added 5 grams to 3&9 and rebalanced with weight in the end of the handle. The racquet felt less maneuverable but stability felt good. I wasn’t quite happy with the feeling through contact. I had less feel where the racquet head was through contact and it just overall felt heavy and clunky.

I was just about to try reducing the lead tape at 3&9 to find a good compromise when I remembered reading about MgR/I and adding weight 7” above the end of the racquet handle to make the racquet come around faster and wow it really worked. I took 1/2” lead tape and wrapped a piece around the handle and the racquet felt lighter and came through contact faster. Added another piece and felt better. Third wrap felt even better and the fourth wrap wasn’t a big change so I left it at 3 wraps of 1/2” lead tape around the handle and the racquet feels great and is now at 360 grams. I need to play a couple matches before I arrive at a consensus but I feel that I have increased stability without sacrificing maneuverability.

How do you feel about the Speed and Radical?
-the speed is a good stick for a 2HBH; being a 100", its a bit sluggish/tricky coming around with the 1HBH
-the speed.PRO is a very demanding stick (good college stick)!!; the speed.MP is a bit easier to use, faster, etc..
-the radical is a better option for 1HBH and its solid, the rad.pro is super nice, my favorite so far; the MP just a bit lighter
-the prestige's now ,(2021) are much easier to swing (then in the past); both the pro(95") and the mp (98") feel nice on the 1HBH
-the pres.PRO does feel nice on the 1HBH, most 95" still have a 1HBH appeal IMO
-the prest. MP does have a large appeal for many, from all that control (from the 18/20 pattern)

Anybody been able to compare VCore Pro HD vs the Mid?

For me, the VCP 97HD is more comfortable with both poly and hybrid set-ups, whereas the 360+ Prestige Mid felt firmer/crisper than I'd prefer with polys but was more to my liking with a hybrid setup with the multi or gut in the crosses (I only played with my friend's one when we would swap racquets to experience each others' sticks).

The Mid moves through the air much more easily (more maneuverable), I instantly felt comfortable with it on all my shots, it had good power and excellent touch, I was able to access all kinds of spin and slice, and I know that my friend serves well with the racquet and the balls come with lots of power and move through the court. My only negative is the feel and amount of firmness, especially when compared to the 360+ Prestige MP (which has a beautiful soft feel and flex that feels to me to be cupping the ball more - it's soft on initial ball contact but on hard hits from the opponent, as well as myself, has this "backbone" to it that prevents it from being a noodle - hope this makes sense).

The VCP 97HD felt nice when hitting, but I wasn't on board with the balance and had an adjustment period with it. It is a great racquet that I could see had more to give, but I had to find a way to unlock it (which might be different from one person to another). It is comfortable and plush but not to the degree that a 59RA would suggest, it is more muted, it had power but was not excellent (this was another area where I felt like I could extract more from the racquet with the right set-up - as was true for the 360+ PMP). Now that I have found a set-up that is working for me, I will be able to explore the full potential of this frame. Now my groundstrokes have more weight, I'm not hitting the top of the tape, and I'm able to transition from defense to offense and vice versa more easily.

Hope that helps.
