Bumblebee?
i started with the black and yellow and played with every iteration. the reissue agassi was terrible for me b/c i used to put 26 grams of lead between 11 and 1. the agassi model was too heavy stock to do that so i couldn't get it balanced like i prefer. shocking i had shoulder surgery when i was 48yo.

Played with the POG for nearly 25 years. College etc. I have the new one and have hit with it 2-3 times. The new 107g is lighter so it’s not a POG - it’s not right to expect it to have the weight of shot or heaviness of ball you’d expect from a POG. But it’s very sweet. Feels great. Very forgiving. Much easier to use for an over 50 guy. I’ve added a bit of lead now and am tinkering w strings. Off the ground it’s great. Serves are very good but I’m not there yet. If you played with a POG or Comp or whatever the hitting area is gonna be super familiar and you’re gonna like the spin and margin for error. It will need weight and string adjustments to taste. It gets better every time I hit with it. I’m a former college player aging like everyone else. As I age I can’t hit the ball as hard no matter what I play with - unless you hit it right to me - which nobody is willing to do it seems. On balance this performs very well and I plan to spend more time with it. I admit to a prince bias as a long time user, formerly sponsored player, and someone who loves the grip shape. I’ve tried to be sensible in my comments. But dang I was happy to see a crossbar again...

I will try to get my hands on a demo at some point. I'm very interested. I've had a POG OS in my bag for many a year.

Waiting for mine to arrive at my retailer. Supposed to arrive by now but not here yet. Covid screwing deliveries I presume.

Love my POG OS but sometimes yearn for little less beef.

Checked with my retailer and hopefully next week. Already shipment is 2 weeks delayed.

Racketocd: What tension did you string it with? I'm thinking Gut/Cream at 58/52 lbs.

Initial observations.

Racquets.
For this test, the Phantom 107g was strung with overgrip, dampener and Isospeed Supreme 2.0/Cream (16 g, 50/45). Play weight for 107g was 11.8 oz.,7 pts HL.
Current racquet since 2018 is Phantom Pro 100P (PP100P) with identical overgrip/dampener/strings; 11.6 - 11.7 oz.
Summary. Overall impression was positive, and I adapted essentially seamlessly to the 107g. Racquet hits and feels connected, solid, and comfortable; controlled power on all strokes including serves. Baseline strokes and volleys have good depth and feel.
Observations. Observations made over 2 days wherein only 107g was use, and is based on baseline and volley drills, 4 sets doubles, serve/return/play drills.
From the baseline there was good depth on forehand and backhand wings with generally modestly increased speed compared to PP100P. Good precision from baseline. Topspin good and similar to PP100p. Sharp angle shots connected. Made some defensive baseline shots that would have been rather challenging with the PP100P, a pleasant surprise. Slices good, although PP100P are shaper and lower. The few lobs I hit tended to be somewhat deeper than anticipated. Off-center shots were largely stable particularly toward the top of the hoop, and more so than the PP100P. The (overly) high launch angle noted by in the TW video was not observed. The launch angle was similar to that which I get from my PP100Ps and which I am quite happy with.
Volleys had good depth and control, increased power was available when needed. Enjoyed volleys in part due to good racquet maneuverability and stability.
Serves had apparent increased in speed compared to PP100P and was one of the main things I was hoping for in the 107g. Precision on serves was good and similar to current racquet. Returns had good pace and control on both FH and BH.
Good maneuverability even with rapid reaction volleys or with running defensive baseline shots.
Additional Comments. For me the 107g would be a modest, but worthwhile, improvement over my current Phantom, the PP100P (which I already like). The modest increase in power particularly on the serve, the improved maneuverability and stability make the 107g a nice add, and I will likely migrate to it. In the future, I may play with the string tension although it’s nice were it is. For me, there is no need to add lead to the 107g set up. The weight of the racquet was a bit higher than expected and was noticeable after 3-4 hours.

Prince certainly have a lot of racquets at the moment, however many students have said that they would like some more visual impact with the cosmetics. Lot of their racquets look the same.

It is perhaps a misery of abundance that TW is currently marketing a bunch of good Prince racquets with a background black cosmetic, and many do look alike. On the 107g, the “subtle-on-black” cosmetic is consistent with that found in the Phantom series. The subtle Banchee grey-cloak lettering on the 107g is OK, but a bit of Star Wars Phantom Menace Red would have been nice or even Creature from the Black Lagoon green?
Younger players would undoubtedly like flashier cosmetics and different base colors could help differentiation in the market. However, not being young and having given up on understanding Prince marketing, I happen to like the Phantom line cosmetics—and more so the way the Phantoms play, including the 107g.

I like the clean looks of their Phantom and Tour lines. The Phantom line is like the "little black dress". Goes with everything. The Tour line has the interesting inner hoop color way that is clean and classy. I think the Beast line could be improved and styled up a bit more, but still not ugly.

The (overly) high launch angle noted by in the TW video was not observed. The launch angle was similar to that which I get from my PP100Ps and which I am quite happy with.

Glad to hear it's not too different from your other phantoms. I expect the launch of the 16x19's to be a bit higher than the 18x20's, which is why I string a lot lower tension in an 18x20.

Isospeed Supreme 2.0/Cream (16 g, 50/45).

Judging from that I might think I should put my Legend/Cream (17g) in at 56/50 lbs.

If you've not seen it, it's a shame we don't get the cosmetic of the Japanese version which harkens back to the POG.

You guys are killing me! Not one customer review under 107G yet and only one comparison to any iteration of the POG 107. Thanks to @Nastase . Also thanks to @Nebulous for initial impression. I am so hoping the 107G can be "that" racket that carries me from 66 - 70yrs old, otherwise it looks like the "lite" Head Rad OS's as mentioned above are going to have to do.

I’m still waiting on delivery. I will be able to compare to the POG107 since I’m currently using that stick for a doubles tourney.

Well, the old POGs were not the same from one generation to other. In general, the were getting lighter. I liked the lightest specimens the best.

How can TW be so slow at getting the Demo available? Just string one up and ship it out for demos!

Well my Canadian retailer is telling me his shipment is delayed and not expecting any in until late November. So TW at least has stock. I've got one on order from TW now. Hopefully it won't be a 2 week hold up in customs.

I'm really on the fence here. Essentially there is no demo for either the POG or the Phantom 107. I keep reading that the Phantom is the POG in modern form, but then others have opined that its lacking the plowthrough and bulldozer like qualities of the POG, which given the weight difference makes sense. In your opinion, is there a choice that would cause less wear and tear on the shoulder between these two frames?

I'm thinking about picking up an older POG on the bay but my hesitation is if I like it, I'd want another one matched. And with the POG, there's been so many releases and re-released/ different country releases/ country of origin/ different words on the side/ different number of stripes ... I can't be bother/ think it would be difficult to find a second identical one.

Oh and I also wouldn't know the specs of the one I'm buying in the first place because of the number of variations/releases...

Please correct me if I'm mistaken or if there's a simple way I don't know of

lighter frame will generally be easier on the shoulder. Heavier frame easier on the elbow. In general. Everyone’s anatomy and technique varies so there are no hard and fast rules.

Well my Phantom 107G is supposed to arrive today. I'll have to get it strung but I expect to play with it on Saturday. Will have a comparison to my POG 107 I've been hitting with the last month as well as to other Phantoms like the 100 and 100 18x20.

I bought a new Phantom 107 from TW without demoing it at all. Have literally played with a number of versions of POG since my HS/Jr days in the mid 80’s and never found another racket worthwhile of taking its place.

i had it strung with VS gut- never played with natural gut before. I will say it’s a different feel than the POG- the control and maneuverability of this racket is unreal. My volleys were hit with laser precision- serves had better control and power. Ground strokes also had better control HOWEVER- I hit more than a handful of ground strokes that appeared to be deep within the court but somehow sailed just out. My guess is the VS is not giving me the spin I previously had with tour bite but the control and extra power on my serve I get from nat gut is going to be very hard to give up. Have only played two nights with the P107 but I can realistically see this being the racket to take me to the next level. I’ll say it again- the control i get from this racket/ string combo is like nothing I have ever seen. review to be continued

I've heard this referred to as a more forgiving POG. Would you say that's a fair assessment or are they just completely different racquets that share the same oversize and crossbar?

chas1116

New User
The "more forgiving" part- yes, I would agree. However- is that because it is strung at 50 with VS Gut or is that because of the racket itself? I don't know. I probably need to get one strung with the same Tour Bite I use on my Prince Tour (POG version) and do an apples to apples comparison. I would never be able to immediately play a match with an unfamiliar racket this soon and I was able to use the Phantom 107G the second session playing with it. The balance and sweet spots appear to be identical to the Prince Tour I had purchased in the past year from TW. It's just a lighter racket that moves through the air with less drag than the Prince Tour. My volley's were crisper and serves felt like they had a little extra power. Serve accuracy was improved. It's too early to say for sure but after just two playing sessions, this appears that it MIGHT be the natural progression for someone like myself that has been wed to the POG brand for decades. As mentioned- my only concern was far too many balls that felt good when I hit them landing just a foot or so out but that is an adjustment I can make by adding more spin and/or not aiming so deep. The ease of stroke preparation cannot be understated when using a lighter frame such as this without apparently sacrificing any power. So far, so good

Have not used racquets in the Beast series and, while have use TXT 100 series racquets, never gelled with them and sold them, so I cannot do a side-by-side. As an aside, still enjoying the 107g.

VS gauge and tension?
I believe it was strung at 50 lbs and the gauge was 17

I DID demo the Textreme Beast- I think that was the racket Isner played with and could not keep a ball in the court. Reminded me of the old Prince Thunderstick

Any of you leading up the racquet? SW seems a little low by default.

I don't want to make this too simplified but doesn't low SW= easier maneuverability= quicker preparation? I played doubles against a guy last night that absolutely crushes the ball and on more than one occasion I was able to hit clean volley returns. I'm not so sure this would have been possible using a heavier frame as that extra split second of reaction time a heavier racket carries with it could have made all the difference. Towards the end of the match when serving- and your arm is tired, a lighter SW is going to be much easier to keep hitting consistent serves. Just my initial observations so far

As mentioned- my only concern was far too many balls that felt good when I hit them landing just a foot or so out but that is an adjustment I can make by adding more spin and/or not aiming so deep.

That can totally be fixed with strings. Maybe look at a hybrid of gut/poly. I find that hybrid works great for Phantoms since they are relatively low powered frames. Full poly may feel too dead. I'm planning on stringing my 107G with Legend/Cream at 55/50. Normally I string a POG 107 with Legend Cream at 64/58. But that's a stiffer and heavier frame.

This is the number one reason I ordered one. I love my POG 107 for clay court play as the forgiveness is so helpful on clay bounces. But its a sledge hammer to serve with now that I'm coming back from a pinched nerve and my shoulder muscles have weakened considerably. Want a lighter frame to rehab with. Once my strength returns I can look at adding lead if I want to get the weight up a bit. But for now it looks the right weight for my shoulder.
