Pros actually using Yonex Percept or just PJ?

Press announcements said Tiafoe and Stan both switched to the new Percept, but are they actually using the new mold or is it just a PJ? I can see Tiafoe switching since he's been using a very similar mold, but Stan's been using the 95D for the last ~10 years and I find it hard to believe that he'd make this switch

Almost no one uses the racket that the paint job portrays. There's some people with Yonex frames painted as Wilson.
I feel like Foe did switch to the latest stick. He used to use the dual G 16x20 while skipping a cross. It now looks like he’s just using a 16x19 so unsure if it’s the new 23 percept or the 21vcp.

A Yonex press announcement should be taken with way more than a pinch of salt. You can be sure that Wawa didn’t actually switch, and even if Tiafoe didn’t they’ll say he did. Remember this is the same Yonex that wants people to think that Osaka is using a hybrid with Rexis, not gut.

can you post a link? i thought brands had to be more careful about those kinds of claims these days

Tiafoe uses the VCore Pro which is the same mold as the Percept - he may have switched since its only a minor layup change but the mold and most other stuff is the same so basically - Stan and Hubi are on their regular frames still

Good to hear cause Tiafoe did an entire interview with yonex ceo and another girl in which he was claiming he switched and talking about the racquet, which would be extremely cringe if it was all just acting and he didn't actually switch

I suspect theres some middle ground where hes probably talking about switching to the 21 VCore Pro (same mold) but idk if he would’ve switched to the retail Percept after switching a cpl years ago - but its ultimately a pretty minor layup tweak (which may be based on tiafoes frame?)

Yeah honestly from what I’ve seen, there doesn’t look to be much of a flip from the VCP 21 model to the new percept except getting rid of VDM.

I do remember Roman Prokes said Tiafoe did come to him and he uses a custom pallet/grip size of L2.5.

If anyone is "using" this, they're just using the paint job....marketing at it's finest and "worstest"

Lol. Honestly it’s just a new name and paint job. Specs haven’t changed
Exactly though.....while the general public will fall for such, most of us with wisdom will just shake our heads.

No one at these companies have any sense. They screw up tried and true lines with "new" gimmicks and up the price $120+. I mean, just stick to what you do well and if you want to put a new paint job on it, fine, but just tell consumers that and offer it at an affordable price. Most new technologies that go into racquets has already been discovered or invented. Its basically a tinkering around with layers, layups, fresh coat of paint...gooooood looooooorrrrdddd!

Yeah agreed.
I will say this. Tecnifibre did tinker too much with the tfight 305. Thickening the beam from the xtc to Rs was absolutely stupid. They thinned the beam a bit with the iso thankfully but would’ve done better keeping it back to the xtc and updating the paint job.

Yonex is one of the few companies that usually does major changes to their lines. Look at the Vcore big changes, softer flex, changed the head shape, opened the string bed completely different racket for the 95 at least i know they changed the 100 quite a bit and remember them changing the mold for the 98 as well. For the Percept they changed the graphite makeup and inlays of graphite which is how they stiffened up the hoop and increased the flex in the throat. Unless you hit a really big ball you wont notice the differences and wont be able to feel the frame flex. Way too many "club Players" that are 3.5's that think they are players and are qualified to review high level player frames like the 97D and H and they simply dont have the right strokes to accurately determine the playing characteristics of these 11.5 plus oz frames and sw in the 320-330 range. The move to the HD was a huge change their first 18x20 pattern then the last iteration they increased the beam thickness and flex (big changes) and now the Percept with the stiffened hoop and the removal of VDM and the addition of the Servo Film. So dont say they just did a paint job...... they didn't. Now if the pros are using it I doubt it. It was a huge deal when Tommy Paul went to the Yonex from his Wilson and then went to the semis of the Aussie; that usually doesn't happen it usually takes the pros several months to adjust to new frames which is why you don't see them switching very often. It is too big a risk.

Completely disagree I'm sure the percept will feel and play much different than vcore pro

did he switch a couple of years ago? i was under the impression he was still using a duel g

Yeah he switched at some point to the actual VCore Pro 97 (mold at least) - Hubi, Herbert and others are still on the Duel G i believe

pretty sure they changed the mold even from the last vcore pro from 2021 def different from the HD and Tiafoes racket which i believe was the Blue/Black version which had shared holes that is the best way to tell which version they are using.

You can tell by the racket head shape of Stans racket it is very distinctive he is still using the 95D; it is very square like as opposed the more rectangular one of the current lines
I mean i think it’s obvious he wouldn’t switch to the new layup.
Foe did switch from his old dual G bc there’s no longer a missing cross left unstrung.

Tiafoe switched to the VCore Pro 2021 nothing to do with the Percept (though theyre the same mold and Tiafoe may have a custom layup that resembles neither)

Top 50 should be more than enough, literally means you're one of only 50 people who are better than all the rest of the billions of humans on earth
does he deserve to not have to scour the used market just to play with the same racquet he has been using? like you, i would hope any top 50 player would have earned that right. however, as far as name recognition is concerned (which i assume is what babolat is prioritizing when deciding.whether or not to cater to a specific player), mannarino flies well under the radar relative to someone like wawrinka.

he has had the latest paintjob now for about a year now at least... he isn't scouring anywhere

fair enough. i was responding to the rumor being referenced that mannarino was searching for his racquets on the used market semi-recently. is that rumor false?

it may have been a few years ago when he wouldn't move on from his old racquet and may not have had a sponsorship deal for any number of reasons. But he's been sponsored and using paintjobs since 2019

Do they keep old frames in stock or do they still make new ones for him?
For sponsored pros they produce their old frames in the new paint job. I think Kyrgios and Naomi both is the old XI or DR Ezone. Rybakana uses the 100 sv.
I’m still unsure if shaplovav switched to the new 95 or back to his old SV.

yes, it seems to have been about mannarino wanting the 2013 apd *with the 2013 paint job*. so @Aestheticsaboveallelse , it would appear babolat is in fact making batches of APDs and sharing with mannarino.

Was wondering the same thing- maybe after loosing first and first in Cincy and Toronto, changed his mind?
yeah would seem he actually switched to the Percept and has now gone back to the VCore Pro - the slight differences between the two would be enough for Tiafoe

There is no way, he wasn't playing with a PJ. I can't imagine he would switch? I thought he was more superstitious, like when Rafa went back to the his old Aero, instead of the new pink one after not winning.
