Nadal recently stated that the surface speed at AO was faster than usual. In fact, it's now regarded as a Category 4 surface speed (someone else look up the exact number LOL, had a 42 CPI years ago) but definitely getting comparable to grass speed.

His bigger win came in Wimbledon (2008), but he has been more consistent in AO and if healthy will always reach the QF or better. Unfortunately, he missed 2009 Wimbledon and we missed a possible fourth straight Fed-Nadal final. Roddick did give Fed a good run in 2009 but lost to Fed in five sets in the final. Of course, 2018 the entire controversy about the match with ND being played under the roof in a bright sunny day. However, I think Nadal having played Del Po in five sets in the QF had just as much of an impact. Del PO took ND to five sets in the 2013 SF and ND then lost in straight sets to Murray in the Final. In addition, Del Po in the Olympics gave Fed a long fight in the SF then Fed lost to Murray in the Gold Medal match. Trust me, there are plenty of matches that Del PO has worked as a spoiler, as he takes a lot of an opponent.

Nadal played very well at 2017 Wimbledon, and the loss to Muller has very little or nothing in common with other losses (particularly against Brown and Darcis). Just because his ranking was low at that point doesn't mean that he's just another Rosol, the guy has a serious grass game, great serve with a nasty slice and placement and is a great volleyer (unlike any other of Nadal's slayers).
He had a great run on grass that year as well, won a grass tournament in Netherlands and reached the SF at Queen's (lost a close match to Marin Cilic). Not to mention that he's already beaten Nadal at Wimbledon in 2005 (his first ever appearance at Wimbledon (main draw)).
