This beauty, among some of the other Federer match highlights, are part of the Swiss Maestro's tennis' version of the lost city of Atlantis. The Island of Atlantis, the city that sank into the sea in one day and night. Deep down in the ocean, washed, buried and withered away, there lies legendary Federer's forgotten scintillating shotmaking, aching to be excavated.

With each portruding and luminescent windowpane of every hidden medieval building in Atlantis serving as a symbol for each Prime Federer shot yet to see the light of day, all I can say is this: The coming weeks we and others will finally shed the light of day on the rarest of Federer gems you've always wished you could one day witness for yourself.

We'll be dragging them out of obscurity once and for all! There will be no way back...

Watching FRAUD 2005-07 for whatever reason gives me the same vibe as 2011-15 Nole.So complete.

Nadal 2008, 2013 feel different to them.

The 2007 AO was pretty much the last of the peakiest of Federer. Fed's level dipped shortly after this tournament as he started losing weak players much more often during the rest of 2007 and even more so in 2008.

For example. Fed from 2004-2006 was 7-1 against Nalbandian. His only loss was at the WTF in 2005 when Fed was still nursing a sprained knee

In 2007, he was 0-2 vs Nalbandian, 1-2 vs Canas, 1-1 vs Gonzalez, 0-1 vs Volandri.

  • could endlessly get away with a chip return.
  • would smile on court.
Smiling Fed is happy Fed. Happy Fed is relaxed Fed.

Relaxed Fed is a dangerous Fed.

I meant Nadal is as dangerous as them but for me doesn't give the same "This player does everything better than me I can't do anything" feel.

Nadal is more along the lines of "This guy will smother me no matter what I do" type.

Looking at this video the first thing comes to mind is that his fluidity and athleticism were on a higher level back then. However, his level of play from just the highlights leaves much to be desired. He almost lost that 1st set with some pretty routine errors and he is not hitting the ball as well as 2005 AO for example and I would even say some years after this match. I think 2007 AO is rated highly because he didn't lose a set but for me, I don't think this was the highest level of Federer that ever played there.

He demolished Roddick and handled hot Gonzo in straights so I think it's not bold to rate it among his best tournaments down under. I'd say it's in the top 3 with 2004 where he handled a tough draw as well and 2005 which he didn't end up winning.

Yea he played great against Roddick and this is definitely among his best AO runs, and I would also put it top 3, but it just isn't the highest level I have seen from him there.

Yeah same Roddick who lost to 19 yrs old Murray in straight sets at Wimbledon of all places.. or who was put in place by a clay courter Nadal on grass of queens..
Sometimes I wonder if fedfans have created their own alternau univerae whixh they refuse to come out of .

I miss those green courts. Much quicker than the pushicushion slow courts of 2008-2016. Thankfully they sped them up from 2017.

It is incredible how much Federer improved over the years. He is now 10 times player he was a decade ago. I was particularly impressed with him in 2015. He was just unlucky to face Djokovic so many times that year.

Why are you judging a slam level based on what he looked like in the early rounds where he was sleepwalking? Against opponents he got up for (Djokovic, Roddick, Gonzo) he produced masterclasses. I still have 04 AO as Fed's best AO run but 07 is clearly in the top 2 at worst and I don't really see anything about 05 that puts it over. He was pretty casual throughout the 05 run too, as he was in 07.

I would rate 2004 and 2005 over 2007 but I did say it's top 3. I feel like he played a higher average level in 2004 and 2005 and felt like Safin pushed him to heights he didn't have to go to in 2007. I thought he played great in the Roddick match but didn't think Roddick played particularly well hitting only 11 winners for the match. Not everyone agrees with that and that's fine.
