Really looking forward to this match, am a big Roddick fan but Starkovsky is a dangerous player, and he has a nice all court game which he showed against Gasquet last week in Toronto, hoping to see Andy have a good run this week but this should be a tough work out, will you guys be watching this one?

Stakhovsky! :) I hope it's close - i'm a fan of stakhovsky's game but i imagine it'll be roddick in straights, i'll go for 7-6 6-4

Roddick has had a lot of good results in Cincy winning in 2003 and 2006 hopefully that will help him this week :)

Hilarious that Roddick is claiming he has mono. He's moving and hitting well. Nobody with mono plays tennis at this level.

He's 4-3 up and serving.

He did say it was a very mild case, besides didnt Fed reach the Australian Open Semi Final with Mono?

Mild or severe you won't be playing professional tennis with mono... Federer included.

He said he's been dealing with it for months and is just now getting over it according to his doctors. Though of course we all know the doctors here at TTW know better, right?

players need "devices" to keep confidence up. If you say you have mono, you have an excuse for losing.

Roddick's been on tour for 10+ years. It's not like this is the first time he's had a few bad losses or even fallen out of the top 10 in his career. Why the hell would he need to make something up and skip a whole tournament just to explain a few bad losses?

Lovely volley from Andy who takes the set. Is he looking a bit pale to anyone else?

Fed, Roddick and Ancic all faked it. The only one who never fakes injuries is Nadal.

Vamos!

he hasn't had a bad spell like this in many moons. you need excuses because it gives you something to blame your poor play on. he's 28. players start to lose matches at 28. but they don't like to admit that is the reason. what's interesting to me is that Roddick has to play a first round match in a masters series event. that must gall him.

The doctors in Talk Rafa:

"Hey, Nadal just shanked a ball, he looks injured. Oh, he didn't reach that ball, well, the footwork is off, the knees, the stomach, Surely he isn't 100%".

Lol are people actually accusing Roddick of faking glandular fever?

Seriously, what would he have to gain?

I was waiting for a ******* to bring Nadal's name into a Roddick thread. Little later than expected, it actually took about 20 posts.

Bud called for it. Read his posts. He was obviously questioning Fed's and Roddick's cases of mono. In that case, one is allowed to question Nadal's injuries as well.

Am I remembering incorrectly or is this the guy that Roddick beat into almost quitting earlier this year in Miami? That was such a pathetic effort from this guy. I remember he started getting picked on by the crowd and he began to talk back to the hecklers.

Apparently you have no knowledge about mono infections at all.
Many people go through it without even noticing it - the EBV is one of the most common virus infections after the common cold. In a lot of cases, affected folks just feel a mite more tired than usual.

But as one should know, it's mighty different for top athletes, as they try to be at their best on any occasion. An infection like that can knock them off their socks, but it's different in any occasion happening.
Ask Ancic for that matter. Still, that doesn't make Roddick's case a 'fake' at all. Nor Federer's.

I presumed roddick would close out that breaker but, to be honest, its no more than stakhovsky deserves. he's been on top all set and roddick has done nothing. i was gonna come on here after roddick had closed it out and say that i don't think he'll go far at all this week but now he mightn't even get past stakhovsky. hope stakhovsky wins now - the whole stadium is against him
