Let's get the hype-train for the North American Hardcourt Season underway! :)

Who do you think will win the Rogers Cup, and establish their presence as one of the favorites for the US Open?

Don't care much about this one. Novak should do as much as he thinks he needs for a good warmup for Cincy and USO and than unleash all his power at those two tournaments. Toronto is not too important for him at this point so no need to try too hard to win this.

The usual suspects will be the favourites - Djokovic and Nadal - but I'll obviously be cheering for Federer. I also hope Raonic threatens for his first Masters 1000 title. He got to the final last year, maybe he'll actually have what it takes to take out Nadal or Djokovic in the final. I can hope...

Djokovic and Nadal will contend for sure, and I'd like to think Raonic will at least get to the semis, but one guy I'd like to see do well again this year, is Pospisil. Caught the last two sets of his Wimbledon doubles championship and there was no sign of the back trouble that plagued him earlier this year. Watched the doubles again on the weekend and it was a terrific match....one for the ages!

For sure! I was disappointed in him losing in the quarters in Bogota though. I thought for sure those would be easy points to defend but it seems he still hasn't discovered his singles form.

Novak is the favorite, no? Toronto suits his game. But I hope nuclear Nadal brings his best hard court game again like last summer.

Well, just the fact that he's been able to string together some singles win at all is a step in a right direction compared to just a couple months ago.

Raonic serve is rusty...totally missed the plate from 60'6" with the first pitch ceremonies at the Blue Jays game. Footage at the ATP website.

how much does it cost overall if you are attending this and you are from USA ? lets say 3 days and 4 nights ........

I'm very jealous of all the fans attending this event. It's in Toronto this year right? I went in 2006 when it was in Toronto and spent the week attending nearly every day. Probably my 2nd fave tournament to visit after the Aus Open (and I've been to loads).

T-dot is expensive to visit, especially during summer peak weeks, which the first part of August is. Do a search on one of the booking sites...you might get a deal!

Good to hear! What exactly about it did you like? Any specifics you can share? Or did you just like the tourney in general?

Well for a start, the people. I found Canadians to be really friendly, similar to New Zealanders, and I met lots of cool tennis fans.
Then, access to top players. I'd never been to this event before and I strolled in on the Monday, walked over to the first court I came across. There was Federer practicing. He signed a bunch of stuff afterwards. Then I walked over to another court further down. Nadal practicing. I got to the front easily and watched, then he came over and signed stuff (see pic).
The weather was great, the layout of the place was nice, the main stadium is awesome, cool shopping for tennis gear, prices weren't too crazy. And then the city itself, I loved Toronto.

Great stuff! It's one of the oldest tournaments in tennis but still not very prestigious for whatever reason. It's one of the most often skipped among the tournaments for the top players, at least it used to be, and you don't hear it mentioned often among the top attractions for tennis fans so I'm glad it was a great experience for you.

Unfortunately, even though I'm Canadian I've still never been. I hope to go to the next one, whether that be next year in Montreal or the next one in Toronto.

First time I took my son to the Rogers, who was a young teen at the time, might have been that same year as Rafa was wearing his hair long like the photo. Was trying to get my son more enthused about the game....which never really happened as none of his buds played...but his lasting memory of the Rogers that summer was being within a few feet of Nadal coming through the hospitality area on the back of a golf cart with about 20 girls chasing. I remember we saw a couple of terrific early round matches, but that's all he would talk about when we got home!

Man, I can't wait! The last few weeks were like a "mid-season off-season". Need to watch some tennis, already.

But there's still 1 week to go:-?

I don't watch any ATP250's or 500's without 1 of the big 4, just a policy:)

I'd find a source in the inetrnetz, tho, I'm sure.

The 250's seem to be absolutely time filler.. Hardly any difference over challengers.

I guess ATP 500 are the old 250's and the masters are like the ATP 500.

It's only six years removed from JMDP's great run through Euroclay's second portion into the USO Series, winning four consecutive titles on the two surfaces. Do you think what he did in '09 would have been possible without that preceding streak? That's why we need to pay attention to this "lull before the storm".

Would be cool if Raonic, Popisil, or some other Canadian won. Really glad Rafa grew up and cut his hair.

Would be great if any outside of the top 3.5 (Murray half the man he used to be) prevails. The game needs new blood!

Totally agree.

I am Canejun, so am naturally cheering for our home boys, however, I am willing to cheer for any other underdog.

While I love Pospisil, and enjoy watching him when he's "on", he is such a long shot that I simply can't believe that he has a chance. Someone please get that man a new coach and a great sports psychologist, because he has so much potential, but he is his own worst enemy.

This will be my first time attending a major pro tennis tourney. I am taking my 86 year old father, who lives in Toronto, to the Rogers Cup (3rd round - afternoon) and have to admit that I am getting very excited! :-D

I would say he deliberately missed the plate. He could have knocked out the catcher if he'd did him on the head.

What a great day the two of you will have. I hope your seats have some shade...the NW side is my favourite area to sit and it gets shadier as the day goes on,

I like the Montreal venue as well. Great connection to the tournament by the metro and it has an almost folksy atmosphere, Most of the players say in the Queen Elizabeth hotel which has a metro connection,

The 16 seeds were announced for both the men's and women's draws.

Del Potro is still recovering from wrist surgery but why is Halep skipping Montreal?
