Rublev vs FAA - Madrid 2024 Final

This match needed a thread after probably the worst masters tournament in history.

I have nothing against FAA, but this would be like Djokovic stealing USO 2016, just on a smaller scale, if he wins this. Rublev is nuts, so its anyone's call. And considering this tournament, it might just end in an injury.

I think Rublev wins. I like both players. I do have a soft spot for Rublev though. He’s had a great career and I’d love to see him win another masters.

He works so hard and I admire that. He gets down on himself but this would help his confidence. Felix will see this as an opportunity as well and great run for him.

Rublev in 1.

But on a serious note, too many injuries / withdrawals in the late stages of this tournament. Top guys either out of form or injured. Doesn't seem like the 2-week Masters format has done anything great on that front. And - quite frankly - I'm not sure how many people have taken this tournament 100% seriously heading into Rome and RG.

By having a walkover and a retirement back to back? :)

Yeah, I like FAA and won't be mad if he wins - he had nothing to do with his opponents' issues. But TWO walkovers at such a late stage in such a big tournament?! Nah, I'd prefer Rublev wins it.

Hope FAA makes it, tho it was a freak journey to the finals.
Just can't root for any Russians in tennis at this point in time with the war going on, their lame stances on it and on top, especially not for that psycho ball basher.

Wow. Just wow. His nationality would prevent you from rooting for someone? What a pathetically small-minded person you are...This is sport. Not politics.

On one side, I like Felix but his Madrid run is incredibly lucky.

On the other side, I really dislike Rublev and his psychotic behavior.

Felix in 3 sets is my prediction.

Well said. And Rublev already expressed his thoughts on this issue last year.

Can’t believe I’m saying this but I think FAA wins his first masters title. Both will never win a grand slam
I have to disagree- I think (and hope) Rublev will win Madrid, and I also think he will eventually win a Major or two.
Taking out Alky here had to be a boost to his mindset. We'll see how it all goes.

Hey, bet your house on it and you’ll be homeless. He hasn’t even been past the quarters of a slam

Only gonna watch this for Felix. Tennis this year has been really depressing to watch outside of a few key matches.

No Madrid winner this year. 2-2 both players Retire.
That kinda result would be the best underscore of Madrid 2024; but what are the chances that both players sprain an ankle, pull a muscle or slip on a banana skin at the same time? Then, producing two identical trophies for two winners, or losers, would be pretty tough on such a short notice.

Not at all, I never judge by nationality but the actions of people, I just would expect to hear more profound statements than 'peace peace peace'. But I actually believe Rublev's intentions are all good and anyway, I don't want to get too much into politics, you are right. Still rooting for FAA hehe.

We are actually very privileged to witness this. Like The Perfect Storm or The Perfect Wave it does not occur that often. But this is tennis and you have to wonder whether this just happened randomly or was it staged like one poster explained the whole IMG theory. Did Djokovic have info beforehand and conveniently skipped this circus?

Peak tennis. I'll pass this one, to avoid a heart-attack.

Hope Rublev retires, to give it a fitting end.

It's a good thing FAA gets some extra rest after the toughtest draw.

Rublev to win in straights. The whole field is in kind of a chaotic state right now: injuries everwhere, aging GOATS and BULLS, shaky form by others - Rublev might even be a contender for the RG crown.

Man seeing Rublev in an ATP 1000 final is a tragedy. If certified clown was a trophy it would have his face on it

I somehow completely forgot that this was the final match-up, and I thought I was turning on the TV to watch a Fritz/Rublev final, forgetting that match already happened.

Imagine playing only two full matches, winning another three because of opponents injury..only to face Clown Corporations CEO Rublev in an ATP 1000 final :-D:-D This might be the luckiest tournament for any player I have ever seen. Felix literally got a free 1000 tournament and all he had to do was beat Ruud (which is a decent feat in clay).

Considering the difference in their forms the last couple years, beating Ruud was a monumental task for Felix.
