The eyes of the tennis community are squarely on Show Court 2 tonight where an epic classic is underway. The great American hope Ryan Sweeting is up against the tough Ferrer who always plays his best slam tennis at AO and goes deep near the final every year. The first set is full of drama and surprises and will be decided by a tiebreak. I'm going with the talented Sweeting in five sets here, he is poised to make a late-bloom break-through this year.

Raonic got lucky - he would get triple-bageled by either Sweeting or Ferrer in their part of the draw. I'm not saying Raonic is a total talentless looser - he looks like a strong guy. Maybe he could take up one of those Olympic sports where they throw heavy objects into the distance.

Seems to be doing just fine at tennis :D

Raonic hasn't faced any competition yet and won't amount to anything in tennis. Sweeting, on the other hand, is really starting to come into form lately. If he can defeat the AO dangerous Ferrer today, he is certainly America's greatest hope at a slam title this year.

Exactly. Sweeting will be our next number 1 within the year.

Brilliant Ryan breaks Ferrer at love to go up 4-2 in the critical third set. The writing is all over the wall now.

He's amounted to one more title than Sweeting already. Props to your boy though, he's a talented one too. Serve/FH aren't as big, but he's got potential, y'know?

I don't know what kind of fat manbaby Canada invitational titles Raonic may have won, but I am sure Sweeting wasn't in the draw for any of those. Textbook strokes and natural talent go a long way these days on the tour.

Sweeting 2-1 now and just another set away from a huge victory over the great AO player David Ferrer.

Nope, you're right - just some top tenners and other guys who aren't worth mentioning by virtue of not being Ryan Sweeting. Best of luck to him, though - someone's gotta give Raonic some competition besides Harrison!

Hey, Harrison/Sweeting as the Roddick/Fish of the new era. I could see that.

Harrison? Sock?

Harrison lacks talent and I don't think Sock is serious about slams. If Jack was serious about slams he would have changed his name officially. I mean, how do you expect a newspaper to put "Sock the Roland Garros Champion" on the front page? The name needs to match the occasion, like "Safin", "Sampras", or "Nadal" - not "Sock".

My sweet Sweeting simply too good for the chain smoking 90's era number 1.

Yes, that's another good point.

San Jose and Chennai are legit 250 titles. They aren't huge, but still ATP titles.

The match going all the way into the fifth set as predicted originally. Now Sweeting gets to loosen up and hit out on his shots.

Man I wish I started watching this match sooner. Didn't come in until the 4th set. Sweeting playing some lights out tennis, solid approach shots and good hands at the net.

Sweeting has both a beautiful backhand AND forehand. Great technique.

I think Ferrer takes this one simply from experience, but we haven't seen the last of this guy.

Sweeting has the best beautiful textbook technique on serve, forehand, backhand, volleys, and overhead. Now at 3-all in the fifth Ferrer is in a tricky situation.

i've never seen ryan play this well. very solid all around.

I am more surprised at how well Ferrer is playing. I thought he only played this well against Nadal, but obviously he considers Sweeting to be in the same league.

he's playing excellent too. i wouldnt say 'surprised' tho. ferrer is the real deal too. i'll bet ferrer didnt expect this kind of quality in this match tho. looks like ferrer is gona pull this out using experience. ferrer will use this win to pick up his game for the next round(s).

Sweeting is obviously unwell, they have solid ground to request continuance. Get things going bright and early tomorrow.

Give Sweeting credit. He's got beautiful game, and he'll only get better.

But this is the #5 player in the world, and he shook the guy up. Time will come that he wins those matches. Just wasn't today. Ferrer's also still getting better himself, and he's right in the elite category now.
