Secrets of the Dunlop Max 200G

Im surprised there are not more collectors and players that seek out the other max 200g versions, since they all play great. Im surprised since the head pc600 players all know that finding a prestige classic pro (earlier brown or white) model play just as superb, and many will seek out and pay a premium as they are much more scarce.

I let a young pro play with my 200g. He couldn't believe that the head was only 84 sq in. He thought the sweet spot covered the entire 84 in.

Back to the original focus of this thread, the real "secret" of the max 200g is not really a secret at all, but rather just playing this classic at the low end of the recommended stringing tension range. When strung at approx 50 lbs, this racket will have dynamic hitting properties that can not be matched by most any other racket ever produced and none of the modern rackets have this kind of flex and feel. This model actually played stiffer the faster your swing speed because of the properties of the grafil injection. The feel and touch provided for half vollies and a SV all court game are unsurpassed. The plow thru and stability of this frame on groundies and punch vollies is just magical. These are all qualities that can only be experiece by high level players able to play an allcourt attacking SV game and consistently hit the sweet spot on this 13+ oz 83" head. Playing natural gut is the ultimate matchup but even poly strings play great at low tensions on this classic. There are many other great playing classic rackets, like the kneissl white start lendl, that I also played last week and it also has great flex and feel. Sure wish more players would talk about the great playing qualities of these rackets and I would see more players playing the classic tennis game with these weapons, rather than just bashing winners from the baseline with the modern hyper stiff smasher rackets. If you are a player and a collector, I highly recommend taking many of your collected treasures to the court and experiencing the joys of classic tennis.

Yes, I agree, especially with the 200G, it should never be strung above 55, and has a unique feel. It is still my second favourite racquet to play with after the 300i

And please sell me your "like new" T5000, I promise to play with it

I've never been able to hit a T5000 with the balance/buttcap attachment still attached, and would really like to see how the racquet feels in its complete original state!

Just got that sentimental feeling and bought a Max 500i, Max 200G and two Max 400i racquets on the big auction site... Can't wait to hit with the Max 400i, because I never have before... All I need now is a Max 150G and I will have the complete IMF Dunlop series! Just need to find a reasonable price for one.

No, not at all. Infact I really enjoy the flex for helping to the hold and delay the serve into the court as I moved forward into serve/volley.

I cant remember to tell you the truth. I know you really like the 300i and prefer it over the 200g. Probably like the PT630 verses the PC600. I recently tried the 630 as a substitute for when Im not having a good hitting day and the sweet spot is more forgiving and better for returning serve. Most of the time, I prefer the the smaller head racket unless Im off or playing against a really big modern Nadal type hitter

I do ofcourse have most of the dunlop rackets and could do a hitting comparison test but since I dont play that much these days, Im happy to just find my strokes with my pc600s

Actually I've only hit with the 400i. I'm thinking of buying a 200g or 300i and wanted to learn how the two compare.

There's two types of 200g. The regular and the 200g pro, in at least three versions. The 200g regular plays firmer (RA low to mid 40's, some higher depending on the year, check Dino lagaffe's RDC-log), is one point head heavier. The pro has an RA of about 37. The pros play differently from the regular. The first generation and the teal ones are my favorites. The purple version not so much. The 400i is comparable to the regular 200g, with a little less control but more spin. I play mainly with the 200g pro (the first version) but against a big hitter with flat strokes, the regular 200g proved a more stable and powerful platform.

I own the second and fourth version om Max 200g, but the weight feels different on the racquets. I feel the older version is much havier than the newer one. Was there some different ? On the old one is written Medium 6 but on the newer one I can't find information about the weight.

Interesting spin on the Max200G I thought I would post.Now I posted a few pics in a thread a few months ago, so if you're seeing something similar again apologies. It is one of my all time best racquets and the other day I picked up the version that goes from a black color to shiny teal green on the hoop.

It was a bit banged up so I took on a paint job project and it came out pretty nice. I was going for the black stealth mode look

It was quite an effort that involved a lot of sandpapering..spray paint .. Re sandpaper with a finer grain etc etc

Strung with Dunlop Black Widow at 55 pounds and a decent over grip. Here's the twist .. It comes in at a hefty 400grams so it's pretty beastly to manouver around the court

I'm not sure how you would treat that , I dont think there is a way IMO

I can't remember if they were 300i or 400i but whichever one they were, they played much easier than my 200gs. Little bit lighter and I think 16 19 pattern. I played my best indoor tennis with them...compared to all of my other racquet adventures. I'll try to figure out which they were....should habe never sold them.

Found.my old.post....400i. Lil lighter and more spin. Still extremely stable. I could.play with them all day. No th ing like the closed pattern of the 200g which I do love as well. It would be awesome to have a stick like these with at least 100 head size....dream

There is Pro Staff Largehead and also POG OS. Prestige had 102 si sized head too. And didn't F200 have larger version as well? Yeah Max 200G OS would have been awesome. Absolutely.

Yes, there was the larger Rossignol F200 called the F300. There were larger and wider Dunlop IMF's called the Max800i and Max500i they were 95.

First time I picked up my Max200G and air swung it at my living room, it felt quite heavy. However, once at the court, with little early preparation, the racquet was moving like a swan!

The racquet had a loose synthetic gut on it first time I got it, and I was really enjoying "painting the lines" on both sides, due to extreme control you feel -as opposed to modern sticks. But the strings were moving like crazy.
So just few days ago, I decided to have it strung with a piece of VS gut that I HAD TO cut out of a PT630. I certainly don't want to break the bank for putting new strings on this racquet, which I don't normally play with. And my stringer fixed a lux poly for the crosses. Looking at me with a total puzzled face for seeing a Max200G, my stringer in fact asked me a good three times if I actually play with this bat!

Had the natty/poly combo strung at 55lbs. The racquet feels super powerful! I wish I had it strung with poly in mains!

My only little problem (and this problem did not occur when it had synthetic gut strings in it) is that, since you really feel that the racquet stiffens when hitting harder, or in a sense: changes gears; or drops gear when hitting touch shots: it is very hard to figure out how to thoroughly control the racquet. But, with gut strings, and a dampener, the racquet plays sooo smooth!!!

I string my Max 200g only with synthetic gut because it simply don't fit modern strings like poly because of its softness. The strings moving like crazy only when I hit of sweatspot, otherwise they stay att its place. I usually string with 22-23kg and use Dunlop synthetic gut.

Take off the grip and use
Electrical tape . I do it all the time .

I just hit with my teal/gold chevron Pro model today during a doubles thing at my club. It handled like a dream, and I actually won a match. I absolutely love the way my 200Gs play.

For sure ... if your moving and swinging well, the max 200g is a great weapon for most good classic players playing clubbers

Hi, I've just acquired a Max 200g McEnroe signed model in excellent condition except that the grommet strip in the throat area looks like it may need replacing soon. Is it possible to get replacements original style or modern equivalent?

There are no "grommets" like other racquets have in a Max 200G. What you need is for your Stringer to tube the "grommets" that are damaged, which isn't too hard.

Hit with several racquets today, we're expecting snow here this weekend so I want to get as much tennis that I can handle. The surface was wet and slippery after night raining. The two racquets I like most were Max 200G and POG Midplus. Dunlop was softer of course. Other racquets were PS 85, Wilson Staff 600ST, RF 97, Yonex RDX 500HD. And I forget, T2000 was also great! I was very surprised.

I found a very badly ground down one a few weeks ago and have attempted a rescue mission on it.
Both sides of the top of the head were worn completely through the wall thickness of the moulding.
So, one side at a time, with some masking tape I created a dam and filled it with epoxy resin saturated chopped glass fibre and, a touch of black acrylic art paint for a rough colour match. Looking at the colour mismatch you can see how much of it was worn away. A bit of sanding and finishing and it looks like its ready to go again for another few years hopefully. It’s not that pretty, but it’s better than throwing it away.
