Last night’s US Open quarterfinal on ESPN featuring the much-anticipated face-off between top-seeded Serena Williams and No. 23 Venus Williams earned a 4.8 rating, peaking at a 5.6 from 10-10:15 PM ET.

The entire 5:15 telecast (including a second match, Novak Djokovic over Feliciano Lopez) scored a 2.7 from Nielsen’s metered markets — up 145% over the same time slot last year and the second best for tennis in ESPN history on any ESPN network. The only higher overnight rating for tennis was the 2012 Wimbledon Gentlemen’s Championship – Roger Federer over Andy Murray – with a 3.1.

Among the metered markets, West Palm Beach led with a 4.8 for the entire telecast, followed by New York (4.7), Atlanta (4.5), Richmond (4.1) and Washington DC (4.0) Eleven markets set a new high for tennis on an ESPN network: New Orleans, Raleigh-Durham, Miami, Louisville, Birmingham, Philadelphia, Dallas, Houston, Phoenix, Sacramento and Nashville.

It was also a record day for tennis on WatchESPN with 612,000 users totaling 44.8 million minutes viewed. The previous best came Monday, with 447,000 users and 40.3 million minutes.

It was a great match to watch in spite of the wait to get into the stadium. The environment at Ashe was electric. We left when #Novak began playing. Too tired and it just wasn't worth staying up later for. Praise be and hallelujah! #JC4Ever

Will be there when #Serena wins the CYGS @TMF and for the men's finals. #GirlBye

Hi Angie! Thanks for posting. I'm so glad you are having fun and getting to experience Serena's run at history. I have missed the laughs you bring in here...it's been a bit tense lately o_O

It looks like their match scored higher than the record holding one 4.8 vs 3.1, but when they factored in the nightcap match, it went down to a 2.7.

I will be scouring footage to see if I might spot who I think you are, LOL...

The fact that the player who beat the winningest American is diminutive, old (yes, Serena did say that ) , collected and coming from Europe where they make those tiny cars is not an easy pill to digest.

'I am sorry. It is my day' is what I will remember most about this USO 15

Being a fellow European you'll get no argument from me. And I've always rather liked Italy. Such an interesting history..... Vinci is a gladiator they can be proud of.

Hi!

What we know about tennis history is that American women and men dominate grand slamtennis. So when someone like Vinci wins, it's a REALLY BIG deal in tennis. It will likely be another century before any other country will even come close to American's accomplishments in grand slam tennis, regardless of what happeend at the #2015USOpen, or dozens thereafter. Hope still floats across the pond. #GirlBye

We had a great time. Lots of social events and a very crowded Flushing Meadow. The rain delays late in the 2nd week were annoying. Will be glad for the fans when they finish the roof next year.

I primarily participate at the TennisForum now. The information is much more reliable and the participants are of better quality as a whole. Women and women's tennis isn't harassed there.

Burst what bubble? My home, tennis court and cars were fine when we returned home. I played doubles this morning with my friends. I'm getting ready to make cheesecake for my daughters family.

You kids to need get away from your computer screens and balance your lives. I sense some of you are too pre-occupied with this forum. Serena is still the #1 dominant women's player in the world. Nothing has changed. #GirlBye

Glad you had a good time.
There is no doubt Americans have played a major part in the overall history of tennis. Some great champions and some champions not so great.
And some fine administrators and coaches. And facilities.
The women have generally been exceptional with at least one great most decades.
American men, not so much in recent years. Europe appears to be winning that battle. If only for the last few years. But winning nonetheless. ..for now. You appear to have some good junior boys coming up. So whilst the present is bleak for American mens tennis (Bryan brothers aside who are exceptional ) the future may be a little cheerier.

They only go by personal experience, seemingly needing to buy new electronics after a tennis match doesn't go their way :p It ain't that serious.

She did have her chance this year, a yec + the slam would of taken over steffi's golden slam.

This is kinda funny after all your posts about serena's cygs before her loss and you went on "vacation" :)

You yourself have stated on quite a few threads you predicted her loss. I would not say your motives were any less than they were. And you were right. She did lose. That must be some small comfort to you as a Serena fan.
For some of those that aren't SW fans the shock win was rather marvellous as Vinci took the match to SW and fought valiantly when down. Quite marvellous.
