Hello I am a 3.5 player, I ran into some trouble against big servers, I had my racquet knocked out of my hand this weekend, only had few fingers on it? Would a heavier racquet help or a smaller grip? I have always used this size grip.

I also get in trouble with my late one handed backhand?

I am playing with a 03 racquet MP, would a heavier racquet help. I am 5' 7', 170, medium to fast swing speed. all court player.

anyone had weird backhand slices from 03 tour mp

So many questions, weakness in my game, working on it. Please help!

Thanks in Advance!

Ummm, the guys at the club said that size matters.

Last weekend I, also, hit against a guy with a really big serve.

Thought I thought I returned well enough under the circumstances, the next day it felt like I had strained my wrist (probably from not hitting the return squarely in the sweetspot).

I would say, no you don't need a heavy racket. Just shorten your stroke. Punch through the ball. Try to hit the center of your strings. Keep a firm wrist. Keep your eyes on the ball and let the opponent do most of the work.

If you have a chance to practice returns against the heavy servers, take advantage of the opportunity.

You might also drop your tension a bit or use a different setup against this type of player. The lower tension would alleviate some of the shock by increasing the sweetspot. Not sure why you'd want a smaller grip since a larger one should be harder to turn?

You probably have heard this advise before - "use the heaviest racket you can comfortably swing". This is actually sound advise. A heavier racket will not deflect as much as a light racket. As such, it helps when returning fast paced balls. As for the grip, there is a trend starting towards using a smaller grip. I think it is a matter of preference though. I find that when I use a larger grip, it forces me to not grip the racket too tight. I prefer to use a smaller grip though because I feel I have better control. I have gotten so used to it that gripping the racket too tight is no longer a problem.
