Software change?

Has the TTW software changed recently?
I've noticed a few things that seem to be different.
One in particular happens when I try to highlight some text as I am typing a new
post. I can't highlight words to format.
When I go into preview mode I can highlight them but not when I am typing the post.

Mark-Touch,

Yes, we did a software update yesterday morning. There are a couple small differences. When it comes to highlighting, you can still highlight in the text box, it just is a slightly off white and hard to see. We are looking to see if we can fix this to a different color.

Thanks,
Brittany, TW

The changes are not small. They make quoting much easier much easier and and that part is good. If you fix the highlighting I might like this.

Is there any way to turn off the Similar Threads bar? Thanks.

No way to turn it off. But you will get suggested similar threads on how to turn off other functions from 2007. If you click on those suggestions you might go back even further in time with other suggestions awakening older corpse threads which could produce unwanted spam lol

Text marking in visual edit mode doesn't work after an update. I've tried it on a couple of mobile devices and PC.
No visible highlighting, it's possible to mark the text but I can't see it on my screen.
To me the previous editor was better.

If you are typing a reply and want to cut and paste part of the reply you typed, the cut and paste function no longer works on an apple computer.

This software update is a step backwards for certain and should be switched back to the previous version IMO

And remove the Similar threads.

Thanks again.
Provide a way to disable similar threads. Takes up valuable screen real estate.
1. TTW enables 'Similiar threads' feature which shows 15 years old threads encouraging to answer them.
2. User submits a reply in one of these suggested threads.
3. TTW deletes the reply and sends an author an 'old thread bumping' warning.

This is ridiculous. Really.

Is there a way to "fix" this software if we are typing on an Apple Computer? This software hates every Apple device I am using.

I am curious if the PC crowd is experiencing problems or if this is a browser issue? Since the software update, I struggle to type posts including the use of cut and paste, and quoting others.

It’s not Apple.

The mods will probably delete this too. We certainly know they won’t fix anything.

@spystud

Thanks for confirming it isn't Apple or me. It is awful from my end and unsure what benefits were supposed to be gained. Perhaps TW has some benefits, but I can't see any. What am I missing?

@TW Staff any inputs to what was gained ? And more importantly any hope that the issues can at least be acknowledged and addressed?

TW has been very kind to me and just hope someone could explain what we as customers are missing. Clearly the software update has unintended bugs.

I accidentally created a thread today while searching for a thread. Had to report myself and ask the thread be deleted just searching for Klip NG availability

Respectfully

What browser are you using and apple or PC?

I find quoting far more cumbersome on every apple product I used.. iPhone and Computer.

Here is a factoid. Using FF in a PC. Highlighted text is in blue when I do it.

Not sure what FF is. Browser extension??

When I select text it comes up in a blue background on my Apple Computer, and iPhone, so a blue vs a white background for text selection isn't a problem for me, but I did notice the white background like others when the software was changed. That has been fixed it seems.

It was impossible to cut and paste from an Apple computer when I made my post on April 6th. Seems someone flipped a switch, as it works today and didn't earlier. But I still find myself clicking on the "Toggle BB Code " icon to do many things I use to do without hitting that Toggle BB Code icon. It is still painful.

The highlighted text is blue when it's on a normal post, but on the post editor it's white if you have the normal editor on. Highlights are blue with the BBCode turned off

The problem, @TW Staff, is the following CSS rule:

CSS:
.fr-wrapper ::-moz-selection {
  background: #fff;
  color: #141414
}

.fr-wrapper ::selection {
  background: #fff;
  color: #141414
}

You just need to remove this rule

For anyone interested in a workaround, I use an extension called Stylish, which lets me define custom CSS for websites. In this case, you just need to add the following for TTW, which should fix the issue:

CSS:
.fr-wrapper ::-moz-selection {
  background: #3390ff;
  color: #fff
}

.fr-wrapper ::selection {
  background: #3390ff;
  color: #fff
}

Most "dark mode" browser extensions fix the highlighting issue too, although those just change all colors in the forum interface lol
