how much do they charge for labor? from my past experience, they usually charge for the string then 10$ for labor. so a 15$ wilson NXT would be 25$. is that sort of accurate?

okay, for u stringers out there. would u string a racquet if the owner bought his own strings? and do u THINK there are stringers that wont allow this?

i charge $10, always with a one day turnaround time (except for on days I have a lot of homework :) ) Rush jobs (1-2hours), are around 15-20. Full Poly is $150. Just kiddin, but i usually feel like i deserve that much.

my stringer charges 10 Euros (about 14 dollars), but he is a pro (he strung at Roland Garros) and has about 200 different kinds of strings. So 10 Dollars for a stringjob is good value

$10-15 is what I usually hear/see for labor plus the retail value of the string. If you bring your own string, I don't think it's really fair to expect someone to string your racquet for the same labor rate that they would if they used their own string that had some markup on it. The stringer needs to make about $15 per job to really be making any money at all. They have to cover the cost of their machine, tools, their space, utilities, inventory carrying costs, shipping, insurance, etc.

Well, I'm just a home stringer and I don't string for the members of the high school team yet because there's also another stringer, a senior - friend of mine. He used to charge seven for labor then bumped up to eight so I kept the same price so I wouldn't end up taking his customers. I'll probably just stick with eight for labor, and most of the members just ask for synthetic gut so the cost is around 10-12 for them.

I charge $10 labor with or without using the players own string. If I use string from my own inventory, I add the cost of the string and add an additional $4-$5 to cover my costs. For NXT, I charge $27. I carry about 20 different types and brands of strings. I also guarantee next day turn around.

I do the same as migjam. $10 if you provide the string - If I supply the string I have a set price usually $15 over the set price...

I don't know any stringer that would refuse to take your money unless you are trying to make him do the impossible. $10 for labor is basically just an "apology" price for not being able to carry their favorite string. We just can't stock everything that is out there. Even Tennis Warehouse cannot carry all the string models. I have taken risks stringing some dried out natural gut just for the thrill of it and got burned a few times in the process. Replacing that no good stuff with NXT(this has to be agreed on beforehand or they might end up demanding more in case the string snaps) plus lost time stringing doesn't make much sense but that's part of doing business. $15 spent for labor on natural gut by a good stringer is well worth it.

i charge 15 with my string, syn gut or poly, and 10 if they give me a set. no one seems to have a problem with these rates, and they get theier frames next day, as opposed to the local racquet club within a week or so.

I usually bring my own string but it's anywhere from 10 to 20 bucks. The place that charges 20 is high quality but judging from the comments here, I could be getting it for 5 bucks cheaper. Anyone know of good quality stringers for 15 and under in the Atlanta area?

What part of Atlanta? Gaines Hillix is in the NW Marietta part of town, Eric is also in that part of town and Midtown, I am in the NE Gwinnett area and RacquetDoctor from these boards is in the Alpharetta area. Not sure what everyone charges, but from what I know from reading their posts and personal meetings, these folks are quite good and will treat you and your racquet with a great deal of professionalism and care. The USRSA has a list of members, certified stringers, and MRT's on their website which is searchable by location, www.racquettech.com If you want any contact information just drop me a line.

I charge £7.50 (about US$13.5) above the cost of the string for synthetic's inc poly's etc, and £10 (about US$18) for natural gut.

The same price applies if players supply their own string.

In my area the low end rate is $14 for labor with or without your string. For example $20 for prince synthetic gut duro strung. $25 strung for NXT sounds like a very good price.

15 bucks ain't bad, if you would do 2 stringjobs per hour.
That would be like 16 per day which is 240 bucks a day!!!

price in Washington DC area

I am just now getting my racquet strung at a Country Club pro shop. They are stringing it with the Klip Lightening - a gut/multi hybrid - for $45. Since the Klip sells for about $25, looks like they are charging me about $20 to do the stringing, or are marking up the string a bit high. I just got a price quote from a Sport and Health/raquet club for $24 - they supply the string, didn't say what string, but I am assuming a basic synthetic gut. At a tennis/golf pro shop in the city they just quoted me a price of $20 if I supply the string. This is up from about $16 last October (They want $70 to string Bab VS team with them supplying the string. Last October that was $60.) So looks like the going rate is about $20 and up here, up from about $16 to $18 last fall.

I don't know what the price would be at something like Sports Authority, or from a local small scale racquet stringer if I could find one.

Time for me to get myself a stringing machine.

If Gaines did that, he would not have any time to post here. His fingers would be so sore or look like he installs carpet for a living and not be able to type messages..

Just go to racquettech.com, that's the USRSA website, go to the find a stringer page and punch in your zip code and that should get you some certified stringers in your area and their phone numbers too.

I would limit myself to 7-8 a day, 10 at most if circumstances call for it. Stringing on a daily basis takes its toll on the body. Stringers play tennis too, and I need those fingers to work for me when I am out on the courts. We make 2-3x as much as the sum above selling racquets and accessories on a good day. I am using my left hand to click my mouse at this very moment just to save my finger joints from the extra repetitive stress. I say 16 racquets every 8 hours output daily over a year or two would rank up there with one of Hercules' labours.

Here in the Triangle area of NC, I pay between $10 - $15 for stringing if I bring my own string. In addition, many of the places I get racquets strung at offer a "string 6 get the seventh free" deal which further reduces the cost. Turnaround time varies from same day to next day.

I'd love to get a stringer and string my own racquets, but the low labor prices around here keep it from being economically feasible, since I have neither the time nor inclination to string for anyone else.

Minus your hospital bills for your back, feet and knees from standing at a stringing machine non-stop for 8 hrs. every day! :)

A local shop down here charges $17 for labor if you bring your own strings. Turn around time is quick though, you can usually get it back the same day or within 24 hrs at the latest.
