Who's coming out tonight for the mixed doubles tourney?

I managed to get a little banged up snow tubing this weekend with the kids. Non-playing hand is a bit jacked up and I think I have snow tube elbow.

PP -- Todai is nowhere near Rock Creek Park or Cabin John. BUT - I think it's a great idea. I'm in for Todai! +1

Thanks for the information. I (almost) never heckle, unless heckled at. :) I can't get away from work by 6 p.m., so there is a slight chance that I might show up by the tail end, so it's your responsibility to make sure that each set gets forced into tiebreak :) If I show up, you'll know – but otherwise don't wait around afterward.

At the Legg Mason in DC last summer, I sat on the front row right at the baseline – and saw both Andy Roddick and Marat Safin, in separate matches, repeatedly footfault without penalties.

that makes me feel better that even the pros footfault. i've also occassionally seen them mishit balls off their frame. this one player federer does it a lot. he's prolly a 4.0 based on his form.

i believe this a round robin doubles thing. probably pro sets or something like that. i believe topaz, sup, jrstriker, theJRK among others are entered. should be interesting. :)

Speaking of heckling....

TFM,

I've continued to go back to your "matrix" and Overhead posts, to motivate me. :)

I will say it again.. Bring it little man.

P.S. I've of course now jinxed myself.. but all is good in the hood.

I wasn't able to play this time. The baby sitter search scuttled that plan.

I'm thinking of trying to do the Arlington Tourney though.

Somehow reminds me of the scene from Risky Business where Tom Cruise was ordered – by megaphone – to “get off the babysitter.” :) (But of course, that does not apply to you, because you are happily married.) :)

Can we goto Todai after the meet on the 23rd???

PP, you will get banned from all the buffet places in NOVA if you go eat too often...maybe a few times a year and they would still remember your face since you can beat more than ten plates without any hesitation....

Reminds me of that episode where Homer Simpson was banned from an All-you-can-eat seafood place.

sup - i worry that you need motivation from the korean oompa loompa to fire yourself up for this mixed doubles tourney. isn't playing with the topaz enough to get you pumped up?

i'm starving. is there anyplace good to eat over by skyline sport and health? i'm gonna head over to va. early since it starts at 6.

Yes, I will be there. Although my mind will probably be elsewhere... I just found out (at a meeting this morning) that I leave for Hawaii tomorrow morning for 3 weeks. Now I have to pick up clothes from the cleaners, play tennis, pack my suitcase, listen to my wife complain because she can't go, etc.

Don't get me wrong, I'm pretty stoked I get to go, it's not exactly bad news finding out you have to fly to Hawaii for work... ;)

Yes... and No....

There is a bunch of places off of route 7. I think Topaz is off early.. 4:30. Hopefully she can respond to this post.. otherwise I suggest you send her an email. She can give you places to eat.

*yawn* morning folks.

is anyone else up this early in the morning? or do you all have nice jobs that let you get up at a more reasonable time?

i had one of these burger king enormous omelette sandwich for breakfast. it's rather massive. almost half a foot long and i'm fairly sure i am shortening my life. also not sure if it's really good if i have to slather hot sauce on it.

dan.smith -- what are you drinking and can i have some? :) i didn't hear about any impending doom. but i did wake up this morning at 5 and there was snow on the ground - light frosting - and a thick layer of frost on the car. should i stock up on beer, chips and toilet paper? (my essentials).

JRstriker -- good fun was had by all. teams were separated into two flights - red and blue. my partner and i were the winners of the red flight i think. we both won 2 free nights at the beautiful hampton inn in old towne alexandria. hahaha.

me: hey hon i won 2 free nights at hampton inn.
wife: very nice! where?
me: alexandria
wife: alexandria virginia?!
me: yes. old towne alexandria actually.
wife: yeah i've always wanted to get 45 minutes away. good job federer.
me: shut up mirka and make me a sammich.

i'm more upset that topaz and sup2dresq were in the other flight and we didn't get to play each other. looks like they dodged a vicious beating and i didn't get to test sup's matrix like reflexes. we did however get to play TheJRK and his partner. while he was physically there . . . i think his mind was somewhere over the Pacific.

Hey JRStriker,

Yeah, we had a good turnout yesterday. The Head Pro at the club seperated us into an A league and B league, based on what appeared to be her decision on fair play. Topaz and I went to the finals of the A league and lost to my upcoming nationals doubles partner and a scrappy little female partner. I'm still fuming about that match.

TFM and his partner went through the B league like Federer went through his opponents in 2003. Congrats on winning.

THEJRK,

Lots of talk in the lobby, as you played, about how you were going to Hawaii. Oddly, no one had sympathy for you.. LOL.

P.S. I used a the Microgel Prestige Mid demo for the whole tournament. The first real match with that racquet. Its a pretty good racquet. I may be up for a switch. Easy on the arm.

That is all

Funny you mention Neo. This morning I saw the movie: Matrix Revolutions.

Maybe I was closer to the Camera than TFM in that shot at Rock Creek - who knows.

So I got my rackets hooked up with Blue Gear and Big Ace. I'm dying to play, but I'm probably SOL until next weekend.

LOL -- yeah without a doubt my partner and i lucked out and played in the junior varsity group. Sup and Topaz got stuck in the A group with far far better players. honestly i would've liked a bit more competition in our grouping. in our first match with this nice husband and wife pair - they were probably 3.0 - COMBINED. we lost 3 points total.

ah. i was wondering what happened to you and Topaz. you were winning all your matches and i was hoping for a showdown in little tokyo. did you guys lose to that other asian guy in the red shirt?

shin! you lurker. well i exaggerate. they were probably both 3.0 players but you get the idea. the competition got slightly better but not a huge amount.

i did get to hit with Sup for 10 minutes with a microgel prestige pro. i likes it! didn't care for the strings but it plays and feels really sweet. but would i buy one? hell no! far too expensive. i'll wait til Head comes out with something new like the TitaniumJelly Prestige Pro Ultra Maximus and they lower the price of these bad boys to $79.95 - cuz i'm cheap like that.

We lost to my upcoming nationals partner (Big Frank) and his little scrappy female partner. We should of won.

We did not lose to the asian guy with the red shirt. We won that comfortably. However it seems Big Frank went on to go undefeated.

I'm still fuming.

winning is nice but like you said - we were the top dogs at the kiddie table. our toughest match was the last one. we played a guy named BO-LA - like ebola.

Yeah, they are definitely too expensive. I can't think of buying racquets in Japan. Most of them are over $300 USD. It's ridiculous. Even the Yonex which is MADE IN JAPAN costs more there than here. What kind of BS is that? So, I have stocked four racquets of M-Fils and I am good for a while. Who would want to spend $300 just for one racquet? Only spoiled kids get to buy it.

i'm deceptively tall. i think i'm 5 foot 9 on a good day BUT i have the arms of a 7 footer. i think i do have longer than average arms but i'm not sure how you measure that.

$300 USD for one racket? That's kinda steep for a Yonex.

This reminds me of those Toyota commericals where people were trashing thier old cars so they could get new ones - LOL!

Even if you wanted to, I don't see why anyone would want to put themselves through the pain in the @ss process of dealing with insurance. I remember what a pain it was trying to get my car fixed after someone stole the rims off my civc.. GRRRRRRR!!!!

Forget trying to get some new chrome rims with the money - they barely paid for replacing the stock rims and associated repair work.

TFM and all TW MAC one handed backhanders - here's a good article on the one handed backhand:

http://www.tennis.com/yourgame/instructionarticles/visuals/visuals.aspx?id=117722

I could watch that Federer clip all day.

But would you agree that "It’s also a versatile weapon that is often more appropriate and effective in adult play" - ?

Speaking of backhands, I love TFMs. He puts it right where I like it, about shoulder level. In our 10 minute hitting session, if I had used my typical K90, I would be smacking the lights out of the ball for a 'winna'.

I think JRstriker and Joe D used to say that, keep it out of Sup's hitting zone. I know Frank last night knew it. Grrr.

Used to? I think we still do say that - LOL!

So what happened with Frank?

If this is the Frank that I am thinking of - He hits some nice tight-angled shots, has an acurate serve with some good pop, and he's pretty big with good hands so he takes up about 3/4 of the net - or it feels that way.

Could it have been the Head stick? ;)

Sup and I hit with his demos of the new microgel prestige mid and pro for about 10 minutes. after said hitting session where i think Sup hit exactly one ball long by about 4 inches we get off the court and Topaz says, "how long were you hitting? you're drenched in sweat!"

Sup walks by dry as a cucumber. i don't really know if that is a common saying but i made that up. not the part where Sup is not sweating like a pig. the part about the cucumber.
