THE CLASH equals TRASH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How does being an older member of the forum guarantee objectivity? Forgive me but at face value from these posts it appears to be quite the reverse.

Thanks for sharing your opinion although the hyperbole makes it a bit less credible. I also thank you for choosing to keep your posts in this thread rather than mucking with the "Official Clash" thread.

One thing we should all be able to agree on -- Wilson's Marketing of this racket definitely has people talking.

It's a terrible name. Just like the Wilson Steam. Must've been the same marketing team who came up with such inept names.

Completely agree on the Steam - can’t ever see how that would sell a frame. Quite like Clash as reminds me of some quality music.

my students had arm problem with it

Do they have problems with their current rackets? I only ask because I do find it to be very comfortable.

I notice that my timing is out, when switching to new racket, resulting in a few jarring mis hits. The clash is a lot lighter than many rackets and I wonder if that had something to do with it? I had customised my clash prior to playing and so avoided the typical mis hits.

You’re a tennis coach, so you would have a better idea than me.

I’m by no means a clash groupie. I think the racket does offer something rather unique that will apeal to certain types of players. I’m still tinkering with the configuration, but at this stage I’m almost certainly going back to my Angell TC100 as it’s a better fit for my game.

I see a lot of differing views regarding the clash, and I put this down to a few things:
1. It does offer something unique, but that doesn’t mean that it’s a good fit for everyone’s game.
2. Wilson marketing machine went way over the top this time setting such high expectations that the product was always going to fall short. And yet it does offer some rather unique benefits that warrant respect.
3. It would seem that thing that is most unique about this racket is that no 2 clashes are the same due to poor quality control. My balance and swing weight were widely out. This makes it difficult to make meaningful apples-to-apples comparisons. If only Wilson did a better job balancing their marketing and operations budgets...

even my trusty PT630 is not trusty anymore, it is not suited for the modern game, the game has changed to power spin first four points won. like I said yonex vcore came up with a spiny soft frame but they missed the stability, the old wilson blades from 14 15 were great but they broke easily and you cant find them, even the prestige pro XT is hard to find and since head QC is all over the place with hit higher SW people did not like it. good thing I bought the last stash of prestige pro XT in size 1/4 on the planet and picked the ones with the Lowest SW even then with `16g they were heavy at low tension using overgrip and dampner,,,,,, so I modified them to be even lower SW. It is a dilemma. Wilson thought they can solve what many here want is a swingable frame with feel yet STABLE.

good points, the student did not have arm issues, only it was the tour which was heavier. I just tested the standard again , it came in at 309g strung with 32.5 balance. sorry but it was not stable and it was not powerful. pillow like jarring on offcenter hits needs lead like spintowin maybe not at 12 more like everywhere LOL

I prefer the rad tours, the zebra was my favourite head stick. Soft, plough through, precision and power when required. Not a spin machine like you quite rightly point out that is the mainstay of the current game. I moved away from the heavier sticks and ended up using a Prince Textreme Tour 100P as got older. That bridges the gap nicely as it’s very stable despite light weight.

I am interested in the Clash as the specs are unique and agree with Spin To Win in that it fills a gap in the market for a softer tweeter. Time will ultimately tell on how popular it turns out and whether Wilson recoup their marketing spend.

I tried the clash tour strung with 4g. It was a demo my stringer wanted me to try. I hit with it for about 15m and put it down and simply did not want to hit with it anymore. Silly high launch angle, stringed is ludicrously open and a disconnected feel. I did not care for it at all.

We need more feedback on how it compares to blade in terms of feel and other 100inch racquets you have played with.

Also a comparison with the base clash if you tried it...?
I play the Ultra Tour modded with lead and the 2015 Blade 18x20. I will be able to offer some Clash comparisons to the Blade after it arrives.

Think the last frame I had this comfortable was my Austrian LM Rad MP (under the bed gathering dust, never sell).

Older, less fitter, moved to tweeners. Hope this Clash can keep up the comfort so I can enjoy all the strings I could never use: Lux, Head Hawk, RPM etc

Have you tried, I don't know, maybe not buying it? If I don't like this or that frame I'm in no obligation to buy it if I think its not for me instead of trashing it because I don't like it.

You have to compare them to clash /tour because it is an unfair comparison if you have pluck out a significant heavier pt to prove that clash is not as stable as the Pro stocks. Ha
nope I have plucked out the lowest SW of a prestige pro compared to a clash tour,,,,,,,,,,, sorry no comparison

In the locker room the women come and go, talking about the Clash and Michelangelo.

When I was 11 I used to sleep with my Borg Pros. It sounds insane but they were such a work of art and an integral part of Borg’s undeniable immortality. The smell of the Fairway leather grip. The futuristic font lettering that was so ahead of its time. How could a boy not be transfixed.

Now, in middle age and in utter sexual and spiritual ruin, trembling in a listless uninspired state, tied down by the proverbial ‘man’ in an embryonic fecal position, I sleep with 3 Clash and I feel that heroic glow of Borg again, through this time in a flexy, light, affordable, and superbly suitably named American designed weapon.

The Clash is GROAT. So much excite for Clasherer.

Tnx. This is not the place to discuss politics but the consequences are such that GB will be leaving EU soon without a deal. Your politicians are too divided on the subject. The populists started it by fake news in the media and now it is irreversible. Like the Clash with all the hype. According to TWU it hasnt magical power nor magical spinpotential that is actually pretty low, but the Clash is very flexible hence very arm friendly. For some players this might work when they dont feel any shock they can hit more relaxed which results in better faster strokes.

You can bet on an extension to the Brexit deadline for sure. Europe don’t want us to leave and current polls say remain is gathering strength again. Nothing is irreversible in politics and this may well be put to the people again. Agree U.K. politics is shocking with hard right and hard left offering no credible option.

The Clash was overhyped but will be good for some and bad for others - like everything else in the tennis industry. Every company markets and sells its part of the game. Constructive criticism is welcome but out and out trashing is plain silly.

The Clash is transforming the recreational 3.5 pro tour in my country into GOAT level NTRP flex league dominance.

So much Clash that Babolat is losing millions everyday. It’s over for many monolithic racket companies.

The Clash is like the Compact Disc taking over the cassette and 8 track recording industry. It cannot be stopped. They tried the do the same to R. Kelly’s libido with pills and surgery. Good luck with that.

Much like the first wave of Clash play testers themselves all I can say in response to this is “whoa!!!” [emoji471][emoji462][emoji471]

My 11 yr old son just switched to the Clash two weeks ago, with lead at 12, 3, and 6. 320 grams strung. Way to head light at stock, needs tape at least at 12. He moved from the PD Lite with lead, and has never played better. He has much more control and spin. Game changer for him, and fits his modern game perfectly. However, I tried the Clash tour, and must admit, plays much different and did not like it at all. My current racquet is the Head prestige S and lately been using the Babolat PS. Hopefully the Clash 98'' will feel better for my game.

Seriously good prac with it this morning.

OP is right ... !

Clasherer is just absolutely trashin' my other racquets, trashn' all my preconceived notions about what a racq should be and do, and just trashn' my rep with all the other racq's who hate me now, and I don' care, I feel trashed.

So I took out the non tour version for a spin, it came in at 309g with 32.5 cm balance, 3/8 no overgrip wilson dampner strung with 16g synth gut at 55lbs. The frame was very light to swing with NO stability. Now I can see why many are leading up. This was a doodle hitting a marshmellow. I might consider feeding with frame to 12 and under kids but my plus 14 year olds would destroy my arm with it. I am going to cut out the demo string and give this worm another go with lead, so far Trash lite :) USELESS LOL

Was at the courts tonight and watched the ladies 4.0 Thursday night doubles potluck match and the best woman on the court named Gayle was Clashing and dominating the play. One of the other women was using a Juice and another was using a Steam and they were terrible, very low end 3.5 strokes without Clashish.

I am amaze and excite for the Clash to win TT end of year GROAT 2019 award.

Moar Clash. Moar Clasherer. So much love for big massive Clash.

I dunno that might be reportable... I mean why not use a spoon?

I used to rally full court just using my hand for the racquet to demonstrate proper form to my students (e.g., that it is possible to do without a racquet). But, boy, did those one-handed backhands HURT so I'd only do a few hits! But I have had dreams where I played in the US Open back in HS and I didn't have a racquet. I had a FORK! I wound up losing to Lendl in straight sets as a result. Anyway, my Clash Tours are at around 333 grams without any added weight (just different grips) and I'll hit with them this weekend, testing out different strings & different tensions. Seriously eyeing Prince arm-friendly control sticks should these not work out...

The Prince control sticks play very different from the Clash. If you don’t hit through the ball with the Prince, you get no depth or pace. That same stroke with the Clash sends the ball 10 feet over the net and into the back fence.

I’m sure with string and swing adjustments I could tame the Clash. What I couldn’t get over was how disconnected from the ball I felt. Just totally lose the ball on the stringbed. That would be my biggest complaint with the Clash.

Thanks for the info. That helps. That's why I am going to try higher tension with poly in the Clash Tour. Lower power and control with the Prince is more suited to my game. Just thought I could "cheat" using the Clash Tour, haha. I would probably string the Prince frames looser with full poly. Somewhere in the upper 40s (lbs) might offer a good blend of power/control since I hit hard. Just wanted to go just below 12 oz in moving from the RF Auto 97 and also use something less stiff. Will keep Prince as my backup option to the Clash Tour.

I just had to come out of self imposed exile to report on the worst frame every promoted. Yes the clash was so TRASH I could not even begin to write a review. Anyone comparing it flex to that of PT630 or PT57A is clueless. They are not even close. The Clash is a lobotomy on its own. ANYONE BUYING THIS FRAME IS IN FOR A SURPRISE............ THE FIRST generation blades silver and black that break easily are long gone...... good luck Wilson. Yonex with it Vcore is not stable yes it is spiny but not stable.... The Prestige Pro XT is still king if you know how to reduce the SW ( i know how ) other than that I have nothing else to say...........
You missed a great chance to title the post "Clash and Burn"

Review II for the Clash Tour

I took the Clash Tour for another round today, I played with my regular hitting partner a strong 5.0 player who hits a heavy ball. I started the session playing with my TC100 v3 and after about 20 min I shifted to Clash Tour - That was perhaps not the smartest thing to do, as I am growing more and more fond of the TC100. The Clash Tour (about the same weight and balance as the Angell) was just hollow. Same experience as last time, I simply don't like this racquet at all, I actually dont see any good points compared to the Angell, I think the TC100 even plays softer. I put the Class Tour away after 15 minutes, no way I could stand up to my hitting partners heavy shots with that racquet.

Clash Tour is for sure not a racquet for me, nothing felt right, inconsistent power and launch angel, no touch or feel at all, no control for me.

BUT the a strange thing happened, after one hour my normal hitting partner had to leave for work, and a good friend came by, he is a 3.0 player at the best a 3.5, his normal stick is a Head Microgel Radical MP 18x20. We started playing and he would spay balls around, being inconsistent as some 3.0 player are, I was just running around repairing and playing straight back to him. Then I asked him to have a hit with the Clash Tour, and much to my surprise he instantly upped his game, more power more consistency in his shots, everything was suddenly better. He said that this racquet was very easy to play with - just the opposite of my opinion as I find it very difficult to hit with.

So with my own eyes I could suddenly see how good the Clash Tour can perform in the hands of the right player.

I have to take my words back from my earlier review, the Clash Tour is not garbage, Clash can be an excellent racquet for the right players, I can surely see this now.

Final conclusion: I hated almost everything about the Clash Tour, and my hitting partner (the 5.0 guy) also had no control over the racquet when he tried it for 10-15 minutes. But my 3.0 buddy had much more control and power at the same time with the Clash, more so than with his regular 18x20 racquet. This racquet acts strange, but in the hands of the right player it can perform really well.

Cheers, Toby

I hit with it again both versions ..
The tour is better for me . But what I can’t get over is the launch angle . The exact same swing with my racket . I forehand topspin roll from my baseline , over the net and bouncing into the oppositions service boxes. So a short roller with my racket .. now if I try to do that with either clash the ball goes to the baseline with the intention of landing in the service box .
To me that creates anxiety and fear .
To me it feels like a flexible vOlkl V1 with Babolat pure drive super oversize power..
so it scares me .
Which is interesting as it’s the same feeling I got when I first hit with a Babolat pure drive in 2004 .
Maybe poly in the mains and a multi (at higher tension) in the crosses would be good for lowering the launch angle a bit?
