Glad the TC95 praises didnt steer you wrong... what strings are you using now? Im gonna throw some Kisrchbaum Super smash orange on at 45lbs... I just seem to be missing by1-3 inches all the time on deep second serves and just feel a more control oriented poly over the Luxilon Adrenaline is in order because it feels like it should go in. that's the thing with a new frame lots of little adjustments. Wish I had some L4 A style pallets but I can build up my 4 3/8's C up a bit. Mine is a 63 RA wich is more flexy than my frevious stick so I'm still adjusting. Good time of year for that. Loving the thump and free points im getting with this precision powerhouse frame. Also, my arm seems to dig it too.
I have one set of A pallets in L4. Let me know if you want them.

Sounds like you had a similar experience with your TC100 as I did. It's weird that he can't get the swingweight below 330 for these 100", 300 gram frames. The average swingweight for non-Angell 300 gram, 100" frames is probably 315-320. I understand the higher swingweight for the 95 or 97, but for a 100", with close to even balance, +330 makes it feel sluggish. Your TC97 came in 16 points lower, which probably ended up around 320, which is much better for me personally.
The reason for the higher swingweight is because the racquets are foam filled, including the hoop. The increased weight distributed throughout the hoop increases the swingweight. But it also adds stability and hits heavier balls than a non-foam filled similarly weighted racquet.

Totally agree. That's what Angell rackets makes so special.

What do you mean by "unique beast"? What are your findings so far and why the need to change it so much?
the balance is not exactly what I want. I want it a little more head-light. I'll try adding a little weight under the handle first since I like the feel of this string setup. I'm guessing this will push the static weight up around 11.75oz. If that feels clunky, I'll take out the weight in the handle then try to balance it to my liking from that point.

Adding weight into the handle hardly increases the swingweight so you wouldn't feel the extra weight.

Yeah, and I think some players don't like the performance of a foam-filled racquet. This is why whenever one of my lesson clients tells me they're looking to buy a new frame, and they reject demoing a Pure Drive or Aero Drive because they've only used Wilsons or Heads. I can't stand any of the Babolats (maybe the old Storm GT was all right); I know that because I've tried them. But I know a lot of players that don't ever think they would end up switching to one of them.

But if you fill an empty channel along the entire hoop with foam, it has to make a huge difference in swingweight. That's not for everyone.

I also demoed a Babolat (Pure Drive) and I really disliked the stiffness and the lack of touch/feel.

Today I had a friend hit with my Vantage 95. He really liked it a lot. He said: I want this one too!
He also mentioned that it reminds him to the Wilson Prostaff Classic that he used into the past.

Received the L4 Pallets two days ago. Due to misunderstanding, I ended with A shape as opposed to C. Removing the original pallet was not that bad. Found pieces of metal/lead in the handle. Two at the bottom and one at the top. Removed the one at the top (12g) and put silicone in all empty areas top and bootoom (about 15g total) and let it dry overnight (not sure how will that impact SW!). Original L3 B pallets were 21g and trimmed new L4 pallets were 23g (not bad even though I expected them to be a bit heavier). Just finished installing the new pallets, put a bit of Gorilla glue on both sides and let it dry. I also put a staple on each side. Pallets feel secure and fit nicely. One staple and a bit of glue on the buttcap and all is done. Total weight with overgrip is 342g. Took pics and can post if anyone is interested.
Jhusein are you willing to part your L3 pallets.I have a L4 on mine and I'm here in Florida. Thanks!

I use MSV Focus HEX 1.10mm into my TC95 and it plays great! :)
what tension? I have yet to try focus hex... I guess it is because I like Weisscannon, Kirschbaum and Yonex strings so much I just never tried them. Next up for me is Kirschbaum Super Smash... because I have a lot of it and I know its properties then I try RS Lyon. There is this nonlinear power with Luxilon Adrenaline that I dont like... Cyclone has it too but so much more spin it evens out. Basically I like ultra predictable stringbeds (control, no power) that I can string full poly in the mid 40's.

Im adjusting to the TC95's low flex 57, or 58RA strung... as it reminds ome of my old 80's racquets. Im reincorporating more slice into my game again too... used to do that a lot with my Head IGPMP... the TC95 is even better with approach shots than the IGPMP.

Oh yes please, I think L4 in Ais perfect. My pallets are L3 in C.

What is the final spec of your frame? Weight, length, balance and SW. Did you measured the RA and SW on RDC?

There may be no final spec for a few months ;) I fiddle with stuff incrementally till it is right.

Length is 27, 63RA

right now Im at 357g 8pts HL and I dont have an RDC machine... I was just about to build my grip up to 4 1/2 but someone has L4 A pallets. I have big hands and in the 80's used a 4 5/8 grip so 4 3/8 just isnt for me in Angell's C gripsize. I play with an extreme eastern BH and semiwestern forehand... basically I never change grip and it helps my return game.

No idea what my SW is but Im sure its hefty but nothing compared to your extended frame.

How do you like Yonex Poly tour spin on it? I like YPTP but its a little muted so I crossed it with Scorpion on my Pacific but I'm trying to tame power on the TC95, whereas on the XPF95 I was trying to add pop. I like the option with angell to use strings to reduce power and the frame does have really nice control and spin. If I cant tame the power my Angell order will be an 18x20 instead of my current 16x19 but I think I can get it sorted out with strings... I like 16x19 for the spin it gives my second serve (american twist 80% of the time).

YPTS is great for a match. I also cross it with Silverstring. However, after a match or so, the spin is just not there anymore. I stick with it as it's taming the power a bit, being a stiff string.

The frame is really powerful. If I'm in good shape that day, I can hit amazing shots with the TC and will keep the opponent in defence most of the time.
But if I'm a tad off that day, then it's a pain keeping the ball in play.

Maybe cutting the racquet back to standard length will decrease the SW.
I have no idea how much I can shave off from losing 0.5" in length. But indeed, 378sw is a bit much. I had no clue I'll end up this way with the final setup :)

Yeah you are playing with a beast spec there... must be huge serves... I like extended frames myself for serving but it really kills my return game and I simply require a very maneuverable frame.

My Vantage 95 has been strung at a tension of 22(m)/21(c) kg. Though this feels great I noticed more unforced errors during a practice match with new balls. That's why I had my TC95 strung at 24/23 kg and today I played with that one. The depth control improved after the strings were broken in. However I think the stringbed tension is still a little too high but I guess that'll be perfect after a few more playing hours.

Yeah,... I also used the Head IGPMP for a while so I can say that I agree that the TC95 feels better with approach shots. The TC95 just feels more maneuverable than my leaded up Head IGPMP (360 grams - 7pts HL). Besides I prefer the feel of the TC95 over the slightly firmer and stiffer Head IGPMP.

I just "shorten" the racquet by rolling a whole used overgrip over the butt cap, increasing its size such a way that I have to move my grip almost 2cm higher. I'll hit with it tomorrow. I'm curious on how it hits as a "standard" length. Th new measured SW with the swing point at 12cm instead of standard 10cm is 353. Which is better than 378.

I'm also curious to try the setup with silicone instead of the lead sqares within the handle. I'm curious if it's muting the racquet even more, giving it a softer feel. That's an interesting idea.

Played another singles set with my TC100 today and still not grooving with this frame. I added another 5 grams to the butt and now its 330 grams total weight anf about 2 pts headlite. Swingweight is probably around high 320s. It feels better but I guess I prefer more headlite balance. I switched to my Textreme 100P and that balance just felt right. I guess the 100P is 5-7 pts HL.
So I decided to play the first set of a singles league match with the TC100 and I promptly lost the 1st set 0-6. The pattern to the TC100 is just too open for me and I have a hard time with the higher launch angle. Tough for me to keep slices down and my forehands were missing long a lot. I switched to my Textreme 100P and won the 2nd set 6-2 and got my confidence back. I stayed with the Prince for the last set and lost 3-6 but played much better and every game was close. Certain racquets just fit my game better than others, but that doesn't mean the TC100 is a bad racquet. Just not great for me and my style.

I only swapped the one weight in the top of the handle (12g or so) but left the other two at the bottom. I have no idea why I did it. I played couple of sets of doubles with it and feels the same.
I can't see why silicone or lead would make a difference. A pound of feathers or a pound of lead is still a pound.
I just thought there was a reason. That's all.

Well if it helps Im a bonehead too, Ive got L3 B pallets...

Right now I think I prefer A in L4 but B in L4 is the other choice so that would help, L3 is definitely too small and Im going thrgh overgrips 3 times as fast as I normally do. Basically I am tweeking this incredibly lightly used TC95 so I know exactly what to order when I do place mine with Paul and a L4 B would either be perfect or narrow it down to A for certain. So yes, great!

Hi everyone,

I have been a poster here in the past but there seemed to have been a glitch with my previous account so I just re-registered.
I am a newly bumped 4.5 player who used to play with a PS 97 modified with a leather grip and 1 gm weight at 3 and 9. With an overgrip the racquet weighs at 11.9 (338 oz) and is around 8 pt headlight. I love the power, volley, and serve but sometimes I cannot control the racquet and I get a misfire. I switched to a Pacific BX2 Fast Pro 100 (Baghdatis' racquet) and modified it with a leather grip and 2 grams at 2/10 (weight is 339). I seem to have great control at the baseline, precision serves, but decreased volley control. I stumbled onto this thread about Angell racquet and am interested in customizing a 97. I tried multiple times to contact the Angell people via email and phone (I live in the US) but I have not had a single response. The phone number listed either gets diverted or no one picks it up. I am hesitant to do anything (order) as I am not sure how reliable the seller/website is. Can anyone help me?

The new TC97 has been a huge success and I'd guess Paul is swamped in orders.
You do get an awesome stick in the end, but it's not as simple as going to the local shop and picking a Pure Aero off the shelf.
Patience young Jedi, you will be rewarded.

From my initial order to getting the frame it took 3weeks. One week was going back and forth discussing specs. One week was for Paul waiting on the arrival of the TC97 hairpins and another week for the final built and the time to get here.

P.S.: facebook is the fastest way to get a response from Mr. Angell
If you're not on Facebook or Twitter, like me, using the contact page on his website seems to be better than e-mail. My TC97 is finally getting here late tomorrow or Wednesday, but as life continues its mockery of me this year, the weather is set to take a turn again.

I was able to chat with someone on the Angell facebook page. Hopefully Paul will contact me tomorrow. Thanks

Was it via private message? It was probably Mr. Angell himself. I exchanged a few PM with him myself around this hour (1am UK time).

I surround myself solely with infinitely cheap friends. I'm sure it has nothing to do with the fact that I am also a terrible cheapskate.

In my zip code, I don't have a choice. Indoors or cross country skiing until April.

first off that is not Baghdatis' frame the 252 mold Pro No.1 is.

second, a TC97 makes sense as it is everything the PS97 tried to be. A little patience but Paul gets to everyone eventually. Just use his website contact page or Facebook. We are a pretty tight knit community and share a lot of info amongst ourselves and if anything Paul is less instantaneous because you actually get personal attention. This is unprecedented because he's designed the Angell and many classic frames as well as dealt extensively with many top name players. It's the kind of service that is simple not available elsewhere but reminds me a little of Fender Guitar's custom shop etc.

Yeah, I shouldn't complain. It's supposed to be 70 here a week from Wednesday. But I'll go out and hit if it's in the 50s and even in the high 40s if it's sunny, especially with a new frame to try.

Yeah my main hitting partner is eyeing the TC97... he thought my TC95 was the most solid MP he's ever hit with and he used to use a Donnay Silver 99 but it didnt have enough power. The Angell TC series all have ample power for their headsize and after 3 years with the lowest powered MP out there (the pacific x feel pro 95) I see the wisdom in a stick with something in reserve and enjoy all the aces, unreturnables and winners ive been hitting. Besides I just like the fact that Paul isnt jacking us around like Head, Wilson and many others are. I dont blame babolat much, they make their type of stick but even Yonex is moving away from flexible control frames.

but accurate as all get out and good spin. Great returner's stick! Transitioning to the TC95 is going well though as I find I am still painting lines but I dont have to swing so hard at everything to generate pace. It slices better too.

What I love about these foam filled frames is the feel on contact... it makes a big rewarding THUK sound too. The pacific has a great feel too but isnt quite as plush.

I agree with the Pacific assessment. The x feel serves great. Very precise great spin. Groundies are great if you hit out with a fast swing. I can't seem to make good volleys with it though

Yeah the Angell TC95 has way more heat on serve... not quite as precise but still very good and mine seems to hit nice topspin and kick serves. I do love how the x Feel pro 95 volleys but you have to punch the ball like you did with old wood racquets and hit angles. That Pacific actually has less power than a PS85 in some respects... including volleys. The TC95 volleys great but with less effort like a bigger PS85. Id say it brings its own punch and the TC97 will be similar. The TC97 has a more Head feel... Id say that H22 and the TC97 share a lot of characteristics. One thing about the TC95 is it is more dampened feel than the TC97.

Basically with the Angell Im going for far less extreme angles on volleys abd just punching into the open court... textbook.

Thanks for the input. Looks like I'm going to go with a customize TC 97. I will talk to Paul first to get his impressions and recommendations but likely 310 TC 97 27" 1/4 grip with leather 9 pts headlight. Should get the strung weight right about 11.8 with an overgrip.

Anyone interested in the TC100 needs to also demo the new Donnay Pro One 97. They are very similar in almost every way. What's interesting is the hoops are the same width but the TC100 is just a tad longer. Both have a nice solid feel to them and both feel very heavy in the hoop. I tried them both side by side tonite and was surprised at how alike they were.

Thanks for the replies so far. For those who ordered the racquet online and live in US, what is the approximate turn-around time.

I ordered my TC95 last Aug before the TC97 launched so it was quick. From hitting submit to my door in 7-10 days (can't remember exactly). East coast US.

Anyone interested in the TC100 needs to also demo the new Donnay Pro One 97. They are very similar in almost every way. How is it specced? You were saying how tough it was to hit with the TC100 at the specs you had. The Angell frame is not going to really come alive unless you have your strokes dialed in and are hitting the ball nice and clean. I'm sure the Donnay is nice, I like the old ones. But I bet the specs are easier for you to use as well.

Basically with the Angell Im going for far less extreme angles on volleys abd just punching into the open court... textbook.

You have used the TC97? That is pretty awesome if it has a Head feel to it.

Yes the specs are similar....just a couple of points headlite with a heavy swingweight. Not for me, but for anyone considering the TC100, they should also check out the new Pro One 97. I thought it felt more solid than the Angell, while everything else was similar. Both Donnay & Angell are similar in that they both have foam filled frames and feel solid. Both offer customization options. Just good having options.

I havent tried it but it is what most who have had said. The "D" crossection of the TC95 and TC100 produces a more muted response whereas the more prestige-ish beamed TC97 doesnt mute the vibrations in the same way and plays more like a traditional boxbeam with more feedback. The TC97 is like a more powerful prestige variant with more flex than you can get now.
