I'd like to add that I am really enjoying Tourna big hitter silver 17 at about 55ish in my TC95. I just need to try it in my new (used) TC97 that I just got. Also, Kirschbaum proline ii plays pretty well in it. I don't like big hitter blue rough however because the 16x19 is just too open for a string that is so soft and pockets so much which leads to inconsistent power and spin.

I have only used one pack of RSLyon on my old TC97 so I haven’t strung up my TC95s with it. You will have to wait a few weeks by the time i get the string, need to restring and then get some playing time with it in TC95. What I can tell you, I thought it was the best string I tried on the TC97. The others were hyper-g (too soft @50lbs got trampoline effect) and cyclone orange (mushy mushy mushy). RSlyon had a responsive feel yet not lively with good control and with a medium firmness. Reminded me of Alu Power but less lively, more comfortable and more control . It had a very predictable feel on impact after playing a bit and you just got comfortable with your hitting angles. I just ordered 4 packs of RSLyon and they will be going on my TC95s in around 2 weeks.
oh that sounds so promising...

My stringer said the MSV Focus HEX 19 strings cut through the grommets of the TC95 or Vantage 95 due to its hexagonal structure.
Earlier he didn't have this problem with these strings when he strung my Völkl C10 Pro so it seems to be the Angell grommets are a bit softer than usual.

Does anyone have these issues as well and how did you solve this? What other string do you recommend that plays similar like MSV Focus Hex 19? What about the Völkl Cyclone 19 and V-Star 19?

I have the TC95s and 100 in 70RA. I’m very intrigued to try out a TC95 63RA. Anyone who wants to get rid of a standard length 27”, just let me know and i’ll take it off your hands :)

Quick question for you guys: My dad is starting to get into tennis, and he's just a beginner, but even he knows he doesn't like his oversized (120ish square inch) beginner racquet. He sees how much I like my Angell and is very interested in getting one. I'm not sure if he should get the TC100 or the 105. Does anyone have any feedback on the 105 because I haven't really seen much about it. On the one hand, beginners usually play with a slightly oversized racquet like 105ish, but the TC100 gets a lot of praise.

I'd say go for the 105.

I think headsize is way too overrated as far as beginners are concerned. My GF learned beautiful, classical strokes with a 320g unstrung, 98sq.inch Fischer Pro 1 and my mom is rocking 100sq.inch racquet in her late 50's without any problem as an absolute beginner.

I think this is a question that depends on your dad’s athleticism and eye hand coordination. If he is able to move around well enough, it may be good to go with the TC100. If he really will need the help due to mobility and require extra forgiveness, then the larger head size 105. I haven’t seen to many posts about the 105 but the few that have seemed to praise it. Head size is a bit overrated for learning. I learned how to play as a child with a wood racquet that was heavy and infinitesimally small by todays standard and did just fine.

Alright, I've always felt the same way about the headsize being overrated. There was one guy at my club that talked about starting with a 120 then he bought a 110 and he would eventually move to a 105 then 100, and I just thought that was completely ridiculous. It's hard to tell in regards to his overall level of skill because he has good hand-eye coordination given he's a pretty good golfer, but in regards to movement well... he's a golfer. I guess I'll just tell him to pick the TC100 because I kinda wanna try it myself ;) I've also always wanted to try the 63 RA TC95, so just curious, does the 63RA TC100 play about the same?

I'm fairly new to tennis (a bit over 1 year now), but like most folks these days, I started out with a "game improvement racquet" of 112sq.in, played with it for about 8 months before I got an evenly-balanced tweener of 102sq.in, and only after close to a year made the transition to a player's racquet that's head-light. It's really easier for us old guys to start out and play with a larger, more powerful racquet, so I wouldn't start out with an Angell but play a few months with something that's a notch on the head-heavy side. Once your dad's in the groove and he overshoots a lot and can't develop his swing because of the racquet's inherent power, it's time to make the first transition. That's probably the time when he can go for the TC105. Nothing beats being able to try out racquets, so he should take advantage of TW's test program. I must have tested 16 racquets within the first 8 months. I only picked racquets that should have felt very similar, yet couldn't have felt more different. Just my 2 cents, coming from someone who walked the walk not too long ago. I don't even think Paul Angell himself would recommend one of his racquets as a beginner's first stick.

Haven't read through the whole thread - forgive me.

Which Angell serves bombs? The best Angell for serving?

@BounceHitBounceHit So it sounds like of all the Angell racquets you tested, your overall preference is TC95 63RA then TC95 70RA then TC97 then TC90? Is that that a fair assessment? Out of both TC95s, which would you pick and why?

Yes! The TC 95 RA 63 offers the best balance of all the virtues for which I've come to love the Angell brand. Consistent flex, great feel, unexpected power on tap, and SERIOUS POP ON THE SERVE!!![emoji106][emoji462][emoji41]

Yeah the main reason I made the switch to Angell is I wanted more free points on serve... even down love 40 I can routinely come back to hold (I have big 1st and second serves ... the second is a twist or regular topspinner). The TC95 give me the same wow I had with a pure drive Roddick but with far more control and comfort... better disguise too. That PDR is the only time tennis elbow became a problem... but I was coming back to the sport after a 16-17 year layoff, beginning my junior year in college.

Im also enjoying that extra power when Im in a deep awkward position running way out wide 15 feet from the lines that indicate the court. With the TC96 RA63 I have easy power to put a topspin crosscourt or DTL in a corner no problem to reset the point without a lob.

Exactly! It's the virtues of a tweener (power out of defensive positions, pop on serve, "forgiveness") with the control of a players frame! [emoji462][emoji462][emoji462]

I put the Sampras Dampener back on my TC95 and went out to hit in the heat today. I think I may have hit 3 balls before I took it out. I love this frame with no dampener now, and the ping doesn't even bother me. I normally wouldn't share such trivial information except for the fact that I have always used a dampener and never once in my life have I liked a frame without one. A main reason is the feel of the frame is just wide open and my control has improved as a result. This frame just keeps getting better the more I tweak it, but honestly I think I found the sweet spot for me.

Essentially I took the lead off of the frame, replaced stock grip with black Babolat leather grip (which looks very cool and has awesome bevel feel) and went full poly. Now the frame feels the best it has and plays even better than before. The poly (Cyclone 17) plays fantastic in this racquet. I'm very, very happy with this frame. It actually replaced my tec 315, and I can play as consistent as with the Extreme Pro. It's incredible.

Yeah I have to add the power is crazy good on this frame. It has to be the open pattern contributing, but regardless, it is a fantastic racquet if you like to vary your spins and pace to keep your opponent off balance. I am able to achieve constant depth even on defense, and that is something that can be more of a challenge with other 95s.

I really now think that the Synthetic grip is not doing the frame any favors. I didn't hate it, but going between my other frames made me realize I needed to make the tweak. I will still order the next one with the synthetic just so I can get it to match the one I have, but leather grips on this racquet, or just something thin like a Skinfeel really made a huge difference.

Picked up my TC95 from the stringer today - 330/305 (12 HL), 27in, 70RA, 16x19, Leather grip L4 - strung with Tour Bite 16L at 50lbs. Due to the circumstances I did not have time to put an overgrip on before hitting some serves and also the balls I just dropped to myself for ground strokes.

I could not find anyone to play with and literally had 20 minutes of free time after picking it up. It was below 50, cloudy and cold but surprisingly there was a wait for the courts at the park. It was all super beginner couples playing too. But two people were leaving shortly after I arrived and I asked the next two in line if I could just try out my new racket for 10 minutes before they started. I also had slightly tweaked a muscle in my right neck/shoulder lifting weights earlier in the week so serves were a little uncomfortable.

First of all the racket looks and feels amazing in my hand, just need the overgrip for the grip size to be perfect. The weight is great, it feels so solid. I actually fell in love with my pro staff 6.0 classic (95 head size) a few years ago and this feels like a slightly heavier, way more solid, slightly more head heavy version of that to me when just holding it in my hand.

Dropping all balls to myself for my ground strokes. I play with a lot of top spin on both sides, two handed back hand, one handed backhand slice. I really mix up my pace and spin and depth a lot to keep opponents on their toes. Big serves and also mix it up with flat, slice, kick and placement as well. I like to come in to net probably a little more frequently than today's baseliners too.

My first swing with this baby was a forehand and I surprised myself. Normal stroke with flush contact that felt fantastic and it flew about a foot and a half higher over the net than my usual strokes with other rackets but then dipped in the cross court corner within the last square foot with tons of spin. My goodness this thing feels like a mix between my pro staff 85 and pro staff classic 6.0 95 (that I added a little lead to) but better. And to me has a flexier and for sure foam filled difference and better feel than my current RF97A. Next ball same thing, a little more launch than I'm used to but great depth and top spin that just dives at the last minute.

After this i wanted to try one of my favorite shots in tennis. It's a short cross court-crazy angle aiming for about where the service line meets the sideline. I achieve this by taking some pace off. I'm not sure if anyone can relate but I do this by utilizing a little off the sweet spot more toward the hoop on purpose in order to be able to fully swing out and still control the pace to get the sharp angle i want if that makes sense. I'm really starting to love this racket, I made one and missed the other two - one by inches the other in the net.

Two handed back hands were the same fantastic solidness, felt great and a higher launch but all dived in with huge spin- a little less depth than my forehands but I'm a little off on this side lately and I find self-dropped two handed back hands kind of tough. I Couldn't really get a great feel for slice back hand with dropping the balls to myself either.

Serves: Whoa, didn't believe the hype but you guys are right. This racket serves bombs, my flat and slices were mostly all getting stuck in the fence with one going through. And I could really feel a nice slight flex when hitting hard first serves. I won't beat around the bush, I was hitting all types of serves beautifully. Missed a few long but I was rushing back and fourth with three balls but the kick serve seriously kicks too. This in spite of a slightly uncomfortable neck muscle.

Negatives: There were a couple cons as far as ground strokes were concerned. First of all, it was a little stiffer than I would prefer, my first thought was I need to try a 63 RA (this is I think why I'm not completely satisfied with the RF97 as well - too stiff). Maybe this will change when I'm actually hitting balls coming at me with some velocity. Also on my serves I did definitely feel a nice flex which reminded me of pro staff classic 95 that to me feels flexier than its stated specs in my opinion.

-On two handed back hands, the grip feels a little shorter than the pro staff's I'm used to so it feels like my left hand pointer finger is off the grip entirely. Maybe just need to adjust to this.

-Thirdly, there was a distinct ping sound, so I put a sampras dampener in, but still got a slightly less ping. I like a solid thud but this is a very small complaint.

Overall first impressions on by myself ground strokes and serves, this is the closest thing to my ideal racket I have found. I'm going to go out on a limb and say in my older age it is even better for me now than the pro staff 85 that I held to such regard in my younger competitive years. It just feels so solid with a great balance of power and control. A heavy ball for sure. And the serves were soooo satisfying.

As for the strings, Tour Bite 16L at 50lbs. These are definitely a stiff string but nothing that felt out of the norm for me. These along with the 16x19 probably contributed to the crazy launch and spin combo. I liked it. I might prefer something a little softer strung at a higher tension but we'll see. Hope to find a hitting partner and open court tomorrow.

EDIT: I'd also like to note that all day I cannot stop picking this racket up at home and just looking at it and swinging it through the air. It feels like home.

yep... that extra feedback lets you know just how in or out of the sweetspot you are striking... it is very important to me and it really helped me dial thing in. It seems simple but it is a big deal... I have leather on my into. Bevel definition is the best.

Cyclone is an awesome string... my favorite return string ever.

Yep, That's what Paul told me
Cool, makes sense the new pj is in the TC95 63ra... it is a popular frame for Angell and he routinely has short waits for new stock. Worth waiting for... he mentioned this would was inevitably going to happen last Fall.

Haven't read through the whole thread - forgive me.

Which Angell serves bombs? The best Angell for serving?

I think we might pity you if you had read through the whole thing... (then again we wrote most of it so ugghh on us). Regardless it seems like All Angell's serve bombs THe TC95's in 63 RA seem to destroy the ball both flat or spin... Apparently the TC100 is an even bigger gun but has less precision but also EVEN more spin, which is scary because the TC95 has a great deal of spin or flat boom to dish up on serve. TC97 serves well too..

better question is the type of serve(s) you have, your level, height etc... extended length is also an option with Angell for even more serve carnage.

Awesome, glad you like it... they do take a bit of time sometimes to dial in on groundies... they swing different than racquets that skimp on materials (Im not trying to slight, but the mass does take gettin used to). Some strings just ping... never had a problem with mine and I have only strung at 45 so far. Maybe try something like Cyclone 17? Im trying RSlyon next myself.

But yeah big serving, not kidding about all this. I think a few years ago when Fed was trying to make a last push for titles all the pro-caliber balls sped up a little... this helps servers.

Halo? Did I miss something?

I suppose a TC95 63RA strung with Halo can be truly called "Thor's Hammer" :D:

I have the 70RA TC100 rather than the 63RA version. Decided that 64RA strung was a good RA for a 100. First impressions so far only: very comfortable: you wouldn't know it's a higher RA. Quite lively for an oval 100, power on tap, with good spin and not too high a launch angle. Hits very solid serves. More court time needed though to reach proper conclusions.

TC90 for flat bombs. TC 95 for slice/kick. But they are ALL superior to most on the serve!!
agreed they are all better than any racket out there for serving.. i have at the mo a tc95 in 70/63ra and a tc97 all at 330g/12HL and its hard to pick between them for 'best' serve as they are like triplets!all quite similar but have their own personalities(",) .. not tried the tc90 but imagine it to be a monster!!!

Thinking bout getting the TC90 after having fun with the TC95.
Any big differences/similarities to the TC95 other than the smaller headsize?

Thinking bout ordering the 320g/10pts HL TC90

Ermm..the praises of the TC95 RA63 got the best of me. I just ordered one at the same specs of my other frames 27”, 330g, 16x19, 12HL with leather grip. Once I get it and string it, I’ll take it out for a side by side comparison to my 70RA. I am totally blaming you guys for this purchase ;)

As I believe I've made very clear over the years I tend to have a preference for 90 in.² frames. And as such I truly enjoyed my time with the TC 90. For flat first service it is the best frame I've ever touched. However ultimately a certain degree of instability off the ground (even with 4 g of lead at three and nine) as well as the extraordinary ability to impart both slice and kick with the TC 95 RA63 ultimately convinced me it was time to move to a mid plus head size.⚡️[emoji462][emoji106][emoji462][emoji41][emoji462]

I'm actually very eager to try the TC 100 in the ra 63 version

What differences do you find between the 95 and 97 apart from serving? Do you find they play very similarly on other shots too. Just purchased a 97 and trying to find a reason not to get a 95 as well based on all the positive feedback here. Do you concur with Spin to Win's reviews of the various Angell frames?

I certainly do not and its not that I didn’t like the TC97, to the contrary, I thought it was a very good frame just required some more attention to string and tension to find the right string bed feel. I have played the TC95 RA70 (main racquet), TC100 (I have 2) and TC97 (use to have 2 for 3 months). Overall, I found both TC95 and TC100 frames to be superior in serving, ground strokes. TC97 would get my nod on touch shots and they are all great on volleys. For me, TC95 is a precision instrument with power and my match playing frame. TC100 is my 2nd favorite with plenty power and bit less precision.
