Thanks. When you said 70RA as a hair pin, does that mean with handle and grip it will become softer or more stiff? Sorry I don't understand what that terminology ultimately mean.
Sorry, it means once a frame gets the handle added and a grip it will measure at a lower RA then when you string it will again measure a bit lower.

Another question--The ASL is RA 66 and the V3 I am looking at is RA 70. If you have hit with both, does the V3 feel stiffer or are they about the same?
FYI, I am not a fan of a flimsy upper loop
Don't worry about the RA if you're worried about a flimsy upper hoop.
RA is more likely to affect how it feels when you make contact with the ball on the swing more than anything else e.g the feel of a wilson pro staff 95 (62RA) vs your tc97(apparently drops 4 points from 66 --> 62). both have similar RA but feel completely different on contact with the ball.
I usually can handle a racquet with a SW of up to 330
All Angell rackets at standard 27" length will have a SW of 330 or less when strung up.
@topspn I was considering between the two. with the V3 100, Paul would have done most of the customization. With the ASL 3, I would have to tweak it more. I also have a Custom Angell 97 320/305 with some lead in the head areas to make the racquet weigh 343 gm
Get the TC100.

Sticking 25 grams of lead tape to the 295g ASL isn't ideal to get it to the same weight as your TC97 320 grams. It would be a pain in the rear, as well as having to mess around with the placement of it on the handle to achieve the 305mm balance your TC97 has in stock form. On top of that, you'd require additional lead tape in the upper hoop to raise the SW to 330. That's almost 10 feet of lead tape in total

Here is a review posted in the official Clash thread - the clash has been really hyped and I compared with my new TC100 v3, so there might be some interesting in this great thread too:

Got a Clash Tour demo, 331g strung (sensation) OG and damper, 316 balance. Looking forward to hitting and comparing to TC100 v3 63RA, 330g strung, OG and damper, 320 Balance.

Here is a mini review of the Clash Tour and compared to Angell TC100

I have been reading about this frame, and have been very exited to try it out for myself. The frame has gotten mixed reviews and I now I know why.

Arm friendly: The frame is for sure arm friendly, no doubt about that. I can confirm what other players has told, the frame stiffens up when you hit harder. I also noticed vibration when hitting the ball outside the sweet spot and high in the stringbed. These vibrations does not seem to bother my sensitive arm.

Groundstrokes: This is for sure a weird frame to play. I could not get any consistency, my forehand would either be too short or too long, I could not get the depth I wanted as I felt the frame worked against me. Power was either too little or too much, I could not consistant power. Feel was weird too. Going back to the TC100 was a breeze, solid and great where the Clash Tour would be flimsy.

Serve: Way off with the Clash

Returns: Clash lack the stability of the TC100

This racquet is for sure not for me. I like racquets where I get a consistant respons, where I can trust my strokes. The Clash seems to have a mind of its own.

To me the Angell TC100 is superior in every way.

Consistancy: TC100 > Clash Tour (I can also struggle with consistency with the TC100 but compared to Clash it is way better)
Power: TC100 > Clash Tour (TC100 way more powerfull than Clash Tour)
Stability: TC100 > Clash Tour (TC100 is rock solid when up against hard hitters, Clash needs stability IMO)
Feel: TC100 > Clash Tour (No contest)
Spin: TC100 > Clash Tour (both are ok, but with TC100 I can add spin and flatten out strokes, Clash is problematic in this department)
Comfort: TC100 > Clash Tour (Clash Tour is very soft, but I felt the comfort of the TC100 is better)

Conclusion: To me the Clash Tour is Hype, no groundbreaking technology IMO, and does not meet my expectation of a good frame.

I lent the Clash to a friend, a 5.5+/6.0 players to try it out, he hit with the frame for 10 min and could not keep any balls inside the court, so decently not for advanced players.

I am sure this will be a good frame for some players, but if you have a fairly good game and like control this racquet does not fill that void.

I am sorry for this bad review, but I was simply very disappointed after reading all the good stuff about the frame here on TT. I guess the real conclusion is that you really have to try it out for yourself.

Cheers, Toby

He wants a TC100 310g/9HL so add to ASL a leather grip a couple of grams tungsten in the head and a couple at 7” and you’re there ;)

Was recently on Facebook with Angell. V3 100 310/315 RA 70 unstrung has a SW of 295. With strings it comes to be 325 SW.
ASL 3 has an unstrung SW of 285. With strings it would be 315. After adding leather (no change in SW but makes racquet more HL) and 3 grams to head the SW and overalls weight is similar.
The question now comes down to which racquet would be more powerful and which cosmetic looks better—blue/gray or black/copper.
BTW thanks for all the inputs so far.

One of my partners for doubles brought Clash to try. I saw him hitting quite loopy shots, sound was terrific, frame was quite wide - so, I decided that it principally not for me, so I rejected event to try it.

tc100 will be more powerful plus black copper looks great

Is it possible to estimate how much the sw will drop if you shorten an extended racquet?

So...if i shorten my 347sw 27,5 inch tc100 to normal lenght it should be than under 330sw?

Quick q - what is the main difference between a 27” and a 27.25” length say TC100 63RA?
Never had an extended length racket, but have recently been entertained with the idea.

Also, has anyone tried the Angell Halo strings? The Halo 3 looks rather interesting as it would be a more comfortable string (I use fullbed of multi)

Thanks

Thanks for all the responses. I decided to pull the trigger on the V3 100 310/315(9 points HL). With strings and overgrip, the end weight should be around 330-340 depending on if I add a little weight to the head or not. This weight is right in my range. I also ordered a leather grip (the racquet has the pro hybrid) just in case I wanted more HL.

I’d like some suggestions for modding my TC95 16x19 please. It’s 340g (strung) and was 9 pts HL (unstrung) when I got it. I love the balance and it’s great on ground strokes. Volleys are good if I attack them but I find that if I’m defensive with volleys (eg doubles, blocking hard drives), I struggle to get any depth (compared to other beefy racquets I’ve used, which manage to absorb the shock and punch the ball to the back of the court). I know it’s always a trade off, but would a bit of lead at 3&9 help a bit? I don’t want to slow the racquet down on ground strokes though, as I love that aspect, nor do I want to make the racquet too heavy.

I always struggle with lead 3&9 because I feel it slows down the head (compared with no added lead in the same racket, of course)

I think what can help you is finding if your racquet is too much depolarized (mgR/I) and then, if that is the case, just add weight in the top of your handle. This will give more plowthrough, that may compensate for a thinner beam in a flexible frame. And it won't change much your balance and swingweight (just the total weight). I would start adding 5 grams, above the grip, test, go up or down... Then, when you find if it works and how much needed, put it under the grip

Do not worry, you will like it. (y) I think 310/315 is a golden standard for this stick. I'm experimenting a bit with it. 310/320 swings effortless but too much power and kills my wrist a bit.

For anyone that might know: how many mains in the throat does the tc95 16x19 have? Is it a pretty open 16x19?

Dont you like lead at 3-9 or 10-2 for better stability? Swing faster at 11-1?
I wanted to effect twist weight a bit but also have a bit more impact on SW so that’s why i went with 10, 2. I generally don’t enjoy weight to much at 3&9. I think it makes the frame hit a bit more with blunt feel. I generally add weight @12 or 10/2 depending on frame.

Topspn, I also find the TC95 too open and I have a set of wilson revolve 1.30 or 1.35 don't remember, do you think it would play similar to prince tour xc?

Well they are both round polys medium firm so yeah it should be fairly close. Try it out and let us know! Hope you have the 1.35 so you can see how it tightens pattern just a tiny bit

I'm getting my V3 TC97 16x19 later today, and I'm just wondering, does anyone have the stringing specs?

I'll be doing a two piece job, per my normal hybrid setup.

Thanks!

Hi topspn,

I saw that you use “powerpads” in your tc95...

What’s the advantage of powerpads at tc95?

Why do you use 135 string gauge? (Because do you want better string life)

T = Throat / H = Head
• First string loop in T
• Mains skips: 7T, 7H, 9T, 9H
• Mains tie-offs: 6T
• Starting knot on 5H
• Last cross string tie-off 11T

Please note that two-piece stringing the TC97/95 16x19 in my experience is a royal PITA – I really hope Paul will some day improve the design of this model to take care of this problem for us amateur stringers – due to the blocked grommet hole on 7T. So try to enlarge that hole before you start string, cut the string with a sharp tip, and use an awl to make room for pushing the string through, without damaging the string of course. Good luck!

The power pads are just a signature of my stringer but in all honesty it doesn’t seem to make a discernible difference. I tried 1.35 gauge and liked it because i was trying to close space a bit in string bed and it worked. I got a better control and higher level precision.

Loop a spare piece of string under the strings that block the hole as you go, then you can just lift them out of the way when you come to threading the cross through the blocked hole.

Yes, that's also a good tip, but you have to be quick...

Thanks! I'll be sure to bore out that 7T hole with my awl before I start stringing.

Yeah, that is a pretty bad design flaw, especially considering how popular the two piece job is, with all the hybrid setups.

Try 2" at 12. That always seems to help with the 3 and 9 issue slowing the swing speed, and my go to lead setup for decades has been 4-5" at 3 and 9 and 2" at 12.

I get to test any of the new Wilson racquets that are of interest to me (friends sponsored coach) don’t bother unless frames under 65 RA. Clash was one of the weirdest frames I’ve hit with! 2015 green and black blades and the 315g red and black prostaff way better than anything out of Wilson over past 4 years.
