The TRU PRO (formerly Tier One Sports) Demo Pack

I ordered this up since it seemed too good to pass on and now that it's arrived I have no idea where to start as there are 6 sets of string.

I know there are a lot of people using Firewire/Ghost Wire together and also Black Knight/Ghost Wire?

What about the other three T1 strings? Are any of them good on their own or are they better as hybrid setups.

I will use the full sets so I understand each string's individual characteristics better. With hybrid, no way will I be able to.

I got the 3 string sample pack. Agree with Antony, best way is to try them in full bed. Hybriding is only when you want to try to combine characteristics of 2 different strings.

Go from softest to firmest, and string them all at the same tension.

My take is that strikeforce is far better as a cross, particularly if you like a crisper feel than GW. Status, to me, was so close to BK that I figured a thinner gauge of BK was the better way to go.

Have not tried duraflux.

I received my 6 pack yesterday. The customer service was very nice and quick to follow up.
I didn't get 6 different strings - rather I got one 18G Black Knight, one 18G Strike Force RIP + 4 pack 1.10mm Ghost Wire.
I use thin strings, so I took 4 pack of 1.10mm Ghost Wire.
Great price as well.
Cheers.

Interesting. You got the sample pack? I filled out their string rec form after I placed an order for 18G samples and they reached out and recommended I use 17G, which was nice. I got 6 poly strings + 1 multi.

I got my sample pack yesterday. I strung up one frame with Firewire/Ghostwire 16g at 48 lbs. I think that is as low as I'll go as the Ripstick is 100". That will be my "spin" setup to test. However, I do really like strings that produce more of a consistent, linear, and controlled feel (e.g., something like Confidential). I like to drive through the ball, with moderate spin at most. I briefly tried Black Knight at 52/50. It had an interesting feel but I need to test it out further & at different tensions. I'll have to read up (here in the forum) on the qualities of the other sample sets. In the meantime, I might string up one frame with Mayami Tour Hex at 48. 52/50 feels a little boardy.

I've read through a lot of posts and seen feedback from posters whose opinions I trust. I know that the FW/GW setup is supposed to be legit especially as T1 markets that combination themselves.

In a lot of cases, there are players that have already used the strings and can provide some information on what to try and what to avoid. So if it's already known that some strings are better as a hybrid, I'm just trying to save myself some time. And money.

I'd fill out the Tier One string recommendation form and ask them too. Every player is different with different swings and preferences. Everyone also plays on different racquets at different tensions, so keep that all in mind.

Tried FW/GW and did not think it was very good. Tier One official has also be pushing BK/GW. Let's be honest here, the reason they push these hybrids is to sell more string. If you normally buy reels to save money, now you have to buy 2 reels.

It doesn't make sense to me if you are going through a sample pack to hybrid any of them, as the purpose of going through samples is to try to understand the characteristics of each individual string.

I briefly tried Black Knight at 52/50. It had an interesting feel but I need to test it out further & at different tensions.

I've tried BK twice, once in full bed and once as a main with Ghost Wire cross. Both times were a disaster in the first hitting session after stringing, but the feel of the string improved a ton after the 2 hour mark. I don't think Black Knight is for everyone...I have to be super careful to keep my racquet head speed high when I'm playing with it, but it will be the ticket for some players, especially if they give the strings some break-in hitting before deciding how they like it.

48 lbs. with BK 16g for my next test. Will see how it goes. Strings behave differently at different tensions in different rackets...

BK is dollar for dollar the best string on earth.

Firewire kind of sucks.

I have not tried the ghost hybrid.

FireWire with Ghost as a cross (Boost) is pretty good in some frames. BK is better overall.

But I’ve seen vid of your forehand and i can see why you don’t like FW. You beat the he** out of the ball. For us mortals, FW mains creates some xtra free spin.

There is nothing hyper G does that Black Knight doesn't do better.

J
Oh wow, was not expecting that. I love hyper g for it's great spin, dead feeling, tension maintenance, firm feeling, low power. Now if you're saying black knight is better in all these aspects, I'll try it for sure, thanks J
Edit: One thing I love about hyper g is the control and the ball dips into the court quite a bit, probably because of the shape, do I get that with the black knight?

What strings to you consider must try for advanced players? 4.5 to 5.0

Just curious, what didn't you like about the hyper g and what do you use currently?
string tension maintenance. I've been playing with different strings, haven't settled on one yet. So far Luxilon strings have been my favorite, but I've only tried 4G and ALU Power Spin so far. Currently have Lux 4G 16G at 59 lbs (now 55lbs) on my 6.1 and I love it. I just got a sample pack from Tier One and also have some Kirschbaum Max Power strings I want to try out but the 4G string is still good even after a looooot of playing.

follow this thread:
Hyper G at 16G was good... while it lasted. It lasted just a little at 57 lbs (from TW) and now it’s like 44lbs a month later, testing using TennisTension. I stopped playing with it a few weeks ago (small handful of playing hours) because it was getting bad (bouncy and out of control) and I just tested it today. Will not use Solinco again.

I’ve played with 4G 16g on another racquet for longer and harder and it has only gone down from 59-55 and still hits pretty well.

Will try Kirschbaum Max Power in 16, 17 and 18, and Tier One sampler in 17 next

That 1.10mm GW sounds interesting. Interested in how durable it is.

What's your game like? I mean every string on earth is fighting for 2nd place behind ALU.

@antony - any racquet strung by TW will be on a NEOS 1000 IIRC. That is a classic LO machine. It is not CP so expect tension to drop considerably due to string relaxation. There are many discussion about this in the Stringers' forum so next time adjust the tension up by 3-7# [Lower number by many; higher number is my experience.]

Man, I don't understand why TW can't teach the people who string demos to tie knots.

It's not rocket science.

Aggressive baseliner, flat 1hbh, forehand has enough topspin to get it to dip into the court, full strokes. Which ALU is your top string?

BK in full bed for sure. You can work in ghost wire as a cross somewhere if you need some softening.

BK > Hyper G vs. harder hitters and with high RHS but for intermediate levels of play Hyper G is better IMO. Just easier to play with when not swinging all out all the time.

Out of the Tier One strings, I'm leaning toward using BK in a full bed. Testing more. The Firewire/Ghost Wire combo has extra power w/spin though & feels pretty soft if you like that (maybe BK/Ghost Wire would be a better hybrid).

Thoughts on the Triumph string? This seems like a great deal, but I prefer hybrids with either gut or multis in my mains, so I'd consider purchasing the demo pack + Triumph if it is a good multi. FYI...I like the option of hitting spin but I tend to hit flatter, meaning spin potential is nice but not a huge factor for me.
