Ti Radicals

Anyone still using the Ti Radical as their main stick? I love them and am finding it hard to find a replacement. Do you have the same problem? I use the OS BTW.

An excellent stick. Great at the net with touch. They're light and allow you to accelerate thru the ball. I used them for 6 yrs (1998-2004) and bought 3 more casue I didn't need to upgrade. But sadly playing league matches, I felt the need for more power in my strokes, so I looked for a heavier substitute with a smaller head size but similair adaptability (the LM Rad MP). Alas after some more searching, I found the Prestige line, and finally settled upon these babies going on 2+ yrs now.

I have 2 TiRadical OSes in my collection, bought one of them new around 8 years ago on sale at Big5 Sporting Goods and the other used from e-bay. Good solid racquet, but is a lighter than I'd like it to be. It came out in 1999, which is around time racquet makers started the trend towards lighter and stiffer racquets and so it's probably the model that bridges the older heavier flexy Radicals with the newer light and slighty stiffer models. The Microgel Radical OS could be an alternative for you and those can be had fairly cheap these days...though like all new racquets are really light and so you'd need to add some weight to it if you're a more advanced player who's used to a heavier racquet.

after my tiradical mp was stolen from an open convertible last summer i switched to the liquid metal and finally a dunlop aerogel 100. really like the feel of the aerogel, but my game suffered from the loss of control. finally got on-line and tracked down a pair in NE on craigslist. my girlfriend as the tiradical os, but can't decide between it and the liquid metal mp i bought.

Is the re-issued Bumblebee an alternative? Supposedly it used the Ti.Radical mold.

I've also read on here that the Agassi Limited Edition (which is what I think you're referring to) used the same mold as the Ti. Radical.

Isn't there like a huge spec difference?

The review from Tennis Warehouse listed the specs for the Ti. Radical OS at 10.9 ounces. With string and an overgrip, my Limited Editions weigh in at an even 12. They also don't have the TwinTube construction that the Ti. Radical had.

great frame

I see the OS ti Radical on the big auction site all the time. Keep hunting and be ready to pounce quick when you see some.....

Great frame BTW, I have 2 tucked away in the closet for transition to in a couple of years when my long loopy swing starts to slow down....

They are the only OS frames I have ever hit that I would put in my bag. Stable, plenty of plow, serve nice and volley great for an OS.

Not sure about the ltd. edition comment but doubt they will be Austrian mfg like the ti Radical OS.....

Your thread has make me think I need to hunt down a 3rd ti Rad OS frame for closet status:twisted:

Anyone who used to use them and wants to sell a MP to me, adam.l.boldt@gmail.com

Yeah, I use these. weighted up a bit they're very good at everything, with no glaring weaknesses.

Actually, weighted up the ti Rad MP is one of the best 18x20 frames ever IMHO....leather grip and lead at 3/9 to match the weight of the leather grip = pow!

Completely diff stick than the OS for a different style player but equally good, maybe even better.

No, the Agassi LE wasn't Austrian, and it was just a "limited" issue from 2006 as a commemorative racquet after Agassi retired.
*HEAD manufactured more than the 5,000 that they originally stated, which garnered some criticism, since it diluted its status as a collectible.

I've never hit with a Ti. Radical, so I don't know how similarly the two racquets play.

Just got two more on the auction site for $60 a piece...
I'm pretty set now.

Nicely played - ti Radical MP have it all IMHO, esp set up correctly! They are too light out of the box but that's what makes em great, super high quality Austrian frames that can take a leather grip and a lot of lead with ease. It really is a poor man's pro stock frame. Every bit as good as a PT 57 or TGK IMHO but a lot cheaper!

Didn't you pick up a pro stock frame too with ti Rad marking or I am thinking of another thread?

I have a 27.2 pro stock frame with exact ti Radical MP markings and I recall someone else getting one, might be confusing it.

I sold my ti Radical MP's cause I can't keep "em all anymore. The HH budget police approved my recent purchase of 2 brand new matched frames from TW and is forcing me to clean house.

Yeah, that's kind of the conclusion I drew after hitting with them more. They do everything better than the current radicals and are basically made to lead up. I still love my MGs but hey, if I can get them cheaper and like them more why not?
And they feel about as good as the pro stock I stumbled across. Mine was only standard length though, but I already sold it. Someone offered a price I couldn't justify turning down for the sake of collection, so I let it go.

Now, between the OS and the MP, is there really too big of a difference?

Completely different sticks.

I would describe the ti Radical OS as an original Prince Oversize with a lot more power.......for the OS fan it is an amazing stick.

I'll be sticking with 18x20 MP Head frames for now, but will switch to the OS at some point.

Took the OS out for a spin a couple of months ago and played very well with them.....mine are matched twins and play identical.

They will stay in the closet until I need them.

Stick with the MP's until you need help from your frame getting around the court.

I think we just drove the bargain prices of ti Radicals on the big site up about 20-30%

Okay, good, so the relationship is kind of like the one between the current radicals MP and OSs. I was just wondering if I was missing out on something that was like the rad but with more spin, haha.

And yeah, we probably didn't help the prices too much.... Good thing I already have my six or so, haha.

I actually used to worry about that.....and I know chatter about previous generation sticks here drives up the price....but you know, the ti Radical MP is worth the price......if advice or opinion we give here helps somebody else enjoy the game of tennis more......that is not a bad thing is it?

6!! Ha ha.....you beat the price increase.....and I am not shopping anymore, done!

Picked one up today at a local used sports store for an even $50 - slapped a Head leather on it, and it's getting new strings now. I'll take 'er out for a hit tonight and report back with findings. ;)

Not planning to switch from my Prestige, just could use something for coaching/days when I'm not playing 100% seriously.

Yeah, I started off with just two... That was hard, I had to string every day and I didn't like it. With three racquets in the rotation and three for later, I can have an off day. I string with 17 ga. though.

Just got back from a practice with my 4.5 team, and spent about half of the time with the Ti.Radical - I have it set up with a leather and Tournagip, and 7g of lead at 3&9, strung with Cyberflash at 58.

Initial thoughts - it felt weird when I was first hitting with it. I quickly realized that the sweetspot was in a different area than my Prestiges, and that was causing my issues. After an adjustment, I was hitting the sweetspot pretty well.

The feel is definitely a bit more solid than you'd expect, coming from a frame 15g heavier, and it hit a big ball. I wish I'd have had a chance to serve more with it, but it came through the hitting zone very well, and I was really able to put some good pace on the ball.

All in all, it's a solid frame and a keeper - won't replace my Prestiges, but it'll be a great coaching frame for when I don't want to use the mids.

hey slapshot. like the old Tennis Warehouse review mentions, i noticed the sweetspot on the mp really starts feeling friendlier when i get it strung 55 lbs. or less, a little added power without sacrificing the incredible control.

I'm in the process of switching to the OS version of these from the original M-Fil 200.

Still dialing in my tension (I always use the same string), but have found them to have just enough flex, good feel, hold up well to heavy hitting, and surprisingly good at net.

You've got to really hit through the ball to make these work, but not sure you can find a better OS frame in this weight class.

What string are you using? I may have some insights for you. BuffaloBill also spent some serious time with this frame and I am sure he has some thoughts on tension and set-ups.

Try the MicroGel Radical

I used the Ti radical MP for years for the same reasons you mentioned and also ultimately looked for something else for the same reason- not stable enough against big hitters. After trying a zillion frames I found a VERY easy transition to the Microgel Radical MP - offers the same benefits: great control, easy swinging, aggressive hitting, but absorbs pace much much better than the Ti. I didn't have to adjust my strokes one iota.

I can't speak for OS, never used either of them, but to me the Microgel MP plays just like a Ti but feels softer and magically absorbs pace.

Small Sweetspot... Stiff.. no power ....no feel. One of the worst rackets I ever played.

-the ti.RAD.OS has a big sweet spot
-slicing is very nice
-it reminds me alot of the new h.gravity.pro, "same type of feel"

Used to play that frame. Very nice indeed. It was a bit light and lacked the plow through of the earlier Radicals O/S. Needed lead back then for my game. I am sure it would be perfect now..

This was my beloved racket in 2001. Does anyone know the swingweight? I find 312 SW at racquet finder, but can it really be? I played really well with it, but today I could not play with such a low sw. Therefore, I am doubting it!
