Your 3 years from now is very interesting. But Cilic and Gulbis and 2 and 3......i'm not so sure about that.
The 3 years from now was definately the toughest because I couldn't really remember many up and coming players. I had to put a lot of current young players in top positions that I feel they might acheive, but there is a good chance they won't. In this case, I'm assuming that Gulbis gets his act together mentally, that Cilic continues to improve like he has, that Del Potro somehow comes up with a couple of incredible years, and that Monfils starts using his body to its full potential.

I see the big three sticking around for awhile (Federer, Nadal & Murray)

My List

End of 2009
1. Federer
2. Murray
3. Nadal
4. Djokovic
5. Roddick
6. Del Potro

Why are you putting Cilic and Gulbis so high? They are only a year younger than Murray and Djokovic and are still far below them in accomplishments so far.

Why do so many posters seem to think Murray Djokovic and Nadal will decline so much in 3 years? They'll only be 25/26 years old...that should be their prime if anything.

I think the top 6 will be solid for another 2-3 years. Give or take roddick. Lots of monfils love lol . . . unfortunately he will never overcome his injury battle. He may hang around top 10 but I doubt he will stick his head into top 5 for too long.

Fed has a long term contract with Nike. And he has said that he wants to have his kid watch him play for a while.

Btw, i hope that thing with clayton/fed jr is a joke.

Do people really believe Del Po can become #1??

I mean, he's a good player. But i think his height disrupts his play during long rallies.

Not really, he and Nadal pulled off some vicious rallies earlier this year when Del Potro scored his first win against Nadal. Del Potro's real weakness is approaching the net when in cases of drop shots from the baseline

Federer done in three years?
I figured that he would not want to focus as much on the tour by then since he has a baby now and has broken the grand slam record. I expect him to play at least until 2012 because he wants to play the London Olympics, but I think his consistent commitment will not be as strong.

Again, I'm assuming that Gulbis gets his head right and that Cilic continues his rapid improvement.

Well, Gulbis is taking a very long time doing that. He can be great if he finally gets it together, but this year has been very bad for him.

Now, Cilic has had a few rapid improvements followed by rapid regressions. He's been on and off for a few years now. It's too early to say that he'll be better than Murray or Djokovic.

And remember they are not that young. They're DelPo's age, that is, only a year younger than M/Dj.

ROTFL, Djokovic who is stagnating and even regressing as we speak will be ranked over Murray and Del Potro in a couple years, while Federer will be ranked below Monfils, Tsonga, and Cilic. Keep dreaming.

The first two lists appear reasonable to me, but your "three years from now" prediction suggests far too many seismic shifts for my liking. You actually think that none of Federer, Nadal, Murray and Djokovic will still be in the top five three years from now, and that they will have been displaced by the likes of Gulbis and Cilic? What, specifically, would make you think, for example, that Monfils will be outperforming Nadal and Murray? Let us keep in mind that all three of these men are very close to being the same age, with Monfils actually being older than Murray and Djokovic, yet far less accomplished.
Your three-years-from-now prediction appears to consist far too much of a simple replacement of our present elite players with currently-struggling prospects, only some of whom are unlikely to ultimately make good significantly more than they already have. Additionally, I would not be surprised to see one or both of the "old guard" of Federer and Roddick still hanging in there even by 2012; these guys are consistent and steady as metronomes, hard-working and resilient and have shown the ability to ride the wave through new incoming generations of challengers. They will only be 29 and 30 after the 2012 Wimbledon, which is not too old for a player of top caliber to still be competitive on a world-class level.

Yeah, I wonder if people even know how old certain players are. They apparently think that Nadal, Djokovic and Murray are 5 years older than Gulbis, Cilic and Tsonga. So, Murray and Djokovic have already hit their primes and are regressing steadily, while Gulbis and Cilic have years and years to improve. I would definitely like Gulbis and Cilic to do better (better than watching Roddick and Fed for another 5 years) but I just don't see them coming yet.

Yeah the 3 year prediction might be a far-fetched, esp 6-10.

Although I don't hope it, I think if Rafa loses a step due to injuries, he may drop pretty quickly. Even at the top of his game, he's vulnerable to aggressive guys who catch fire and may hit unbelievable shots for an entire match (e.g. Tsonga, Verdasco, Soderling). Losing a step, he would be even more vulnerable. He would have to play a lot of tournaments to maintain his ranking.
