Has anyone been watching this great show lately? It's a HBO anthology crime drama so every season has a new cast and story, the show just started recently and has gotten fantastic reception. At the moment Season 1 has 6 episodes, 2 more to go until the finale. Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson are the 2 main cast members, amazing performances.

I don't watch Hannibal so can't compare them but even if that is the case, it should not deter you from watching True Detective.
It's easily the best show on tv right now. Can't wait for tomorrows episode. If anyone wants to discuss and speculate about who's involved in the murders, symbols, etc, that would be cool.

Yeah Hannibal and True Detectve aren't the same series, they have different stories. True Detective is much better imo, better character performances and suspense. Plus with Hannibal, you know who the killer is within the first episode while with True Detective, it's yet to be revealed.

Anyway, yeah eko, Check this out.

One episode is scheduled for today.

I rather liked it but i prefer Breaking Bad. I am not much into psycho stuff and all that religious symbology etc.

Good performances overall.

I don't think we can speculate about the murderer since they'll likely bring in some new leads and people.

Also, i think they'll save it all for the final episode, so wondering whether there will be much in the March 2nd episode.

Sentinel are you up to date with True Detective? i.e you have watched 6 episodes so far, because there is only 2 more left until this season ends.

Right now, all the flashbacks and past stuff has finished so it's only the present now with Rust and Marty (Marty looked dodgy when he loaded his gun), also what do you think about the images I posted above? Can't be a coincidence, right?

Thanks for the photo Solo. That's crazy. Spoiler Alert:
I've always thought Marty was involved in the murders somehow. The way the detectives are trying to make it look like it was Cohle is just to make us go in the wrong direction. With Marty you have him killing Ledoux right away(possibly so he wouldn't be able to talk and rat Marty out). He stopped Cohle from going into the school the first time. He didn't want prints done on the payphone after the guy killed himself in the cell. Now these pictures, and not forgetting his one daugher is goth. Nothing concrete here but I wouldn't be surprised if it was Marty.

I have seen the six but not the latest March 2 one. Will DL it and catch it today or so.

I can't recognize those pics, I have been so much into Breaking Bad that i've forgotten the details of TD.

Just saw the 7th episode. I am a bit lost since i've been seeing BB.
Does seem that Marty may have killed Ledoux to protect that Senator or whatever. Tuttle. However, he is revolted at seeing the cassette. Is he revolted because he realizes what he had once helped cover up ?

Scarface/Burnface is located in the end mowing the lawn. He was there earlier too in another episode. Notice that he is mowing in a spiral fashion, like the tattoo.

Seems the Tuttle clan is implicated along with the sheriff Childress. They are all into some devil worship or some cult coming down generations which sacrifices children/virgins. The next episode should reveal the Yellow King and Carcosa.

I can't recall what the thing is about whether Marie Fontenot did or did not go with her father. What is the importance of that point ?

@ Sentinel

Wait, shouldn't the guy who was revealed at the end of this episode with the scars be the King in Yellow, and the place he was mowning at, shouldn't that be Carcosa? Because you see at the end the boat is heading towards its direction with Rust and Marty in it.

Also the pictures that I posted, look at the picture frame in the first picture at Marty's house then compare it with the wallpaper in the second picture.

Marie Fontenot is important because she dissapeared 5 years earlier before 1995 and the case was never investigated and with the twig/wooden stick figurines found in her uncle's house, it seemed suspicious. Her school records were mysteriously vanished.

Either way, fantastic episode. Season finale next week! CAN'T WAIT!!

It would be really, really shocking if it was Marty because remember his daughter was playing with those 5 figurines depicting a sexual image? If my theory is right, and his daughter did get ***** by the 5 men (otherwise how the hell does she know about this and is playing with it?) Even Marty wouldn't go that far.

Shouldn't the Yellow King be someone more important than one of the Tuttle grandchildren. That scarface is a Childress i think, not clear how the Childress are related to the Tuttles, are they cousins ?

The place he was mowing was some cemetery or school that had been closed long ago, right ?

About Marie, why is it important whether she went off with her Dad or not. Is that necessary in order to create a link. Is it something that will be revealed, or have i missed something ?

It cannot be Rust since he has been investigating on his own. That would be a very annoying trick on us, since he would have been pretending to investigate even when he was alone. Why would he want to reopen a case that pointed to himself ?

Also, if it is Marty that would be very expected since he did kill the Ledoux guy. A lot of us will be saying "I told you".

Rust does not talk very much about his daughter's death .. he sort of stopped after saying driveway, right ? Do you think something more will come out ?

I think it's pretty clear at this point that it is the Tuttle family that is involved, with the Sheriff (Childress). The Ledoux's were with them, maybe not in the actual rituals (since there were five, is that right?). Possibly some police or other people bought off.

Just watched episode 7 on Monday night, had to avoid the computer so as not to get spoiled:)

First thoughts are that Marty is definitely not involved. This is some family cult thing with the Tuttles and extended family that's been going on for a long time. When Cohle stole the video from the safe, he mentioned that the other Tuttles must have taken care of the reverand so nothing would have gotten out.

The lawnmower guy is the man with the scars. We all called that. I wonder what the other detectives are going to do. They were looking for an old church. Everyone is in the same place come the end of episode so the finale is going to be great. I got a feeling Marty is going to die though.

This is the best show on TV and maybe the best show I have ever seen. It delivers in so many ways. I just love everything about it.

The killer is not Marty. It is 5 guys, one is the lawnmower man, and they are all in the Tuttle family. The show is not about twists or fooling you. It is about how Marty and Rust lost their daughters and lives. That is why they are the yellow king just as much as the guys they are about to confront.

I believe both will die in the end. They have nothing else to live for besides this case, and are true detectives.

The foreshadowing is there for this to happen - Martys Ex asking if he is saving goodbye, and Rust saying he needs to tie off the cycle.

The case will be revealed to the public due to their work. In other words, the bodies that the sheriff asked for will be found. And the 2 other detectives who are on the case but clueless will be handed the reigns to close it for good. That is my prediction.

I have been reading from other forums and did anyone notice that Maggie (Marty's ex wife) had a star plated dress on when she was in her house, and when she went to see Rust (how did she know where Rust would be?), she had a yellow top on?

Also one of the daughter's paintings in the room:

19hdke1o9noozjpg.jpg

Contains black stars. I don't know if they are overthinking this but...with the pictures I posted at post #4, the daughter playing with those 5 dolls, and the recent findings....Maggie might have something to do with this too. Maybe she knows what happened to her daughter and didn't tell Marty at the time? We don't now much about her dad either...AND her maiden name? (Could be a Tuttle or a Childress)

There has to be a reason for this symbolism. This is why I am hoping it is a extended season finale (90 mins or more) because this daughter story needs to be explained as well. 1 hour may not be enough I think.

The Director said the finale leaves a lot of loose ends, so don't get your hopes up. The symbolism in this show is fantastic for discussion, and the easter eggs like what you are describing have been absolutely amazing in terms of detail.

Yeah but I feel like the daughter thing deserves a answer. Otherwise it's a random thing to put her playing with 5 dolls in that way (sexual).

It got me thinking, since every season will have a different cast and a different story, I wonder how they will be able to top this season with a new cast and a story. Story can be achievable but the new cast?

Matthew Mcconaughey and Woody Harrelson are a excellent team imo, shame there won't be more of them now, they seem to fit perfectly (and are great friends in real life, Woody signed on because Matthew did)

It's confirmed that the director (Cary Joji ***unaga) won't be returning for season 2 because every film studio has jumped on his stick to direct films now because of his directing style for True Detective.

BUT the creator and writer (Nic Pizzolatto) of this show will continue on for the upcoming seasons. (All 8 episodes have been written by 1 writer and directed by 1 director).

I heard Nic Pizzolatto is thinking of having a woman lead in the next season, either 2 females or 1 female and 1 male (this would be better). That would be refreshing but need to find a good film actress.

I'd be happy if this season was the end of the series. True Detective was great because of the two lead actos, the writing, the directing, the story, and especially the location.

If everything but the writer is going to be changed, why not just make a completely new detective show? Will the second season be similar in any way to the first? What if they did another thing where they had detectives recounted events from the past? Would that feel like too much of the same thing?

I would want the writer/director to something completely 180 to the first season.

Yeah that's the point. The show will be based on detectives but every season will have a new style, story and cast. That's why there are only few episodes per season, there is no filler inside. Either way, they got plenty of time to think of a new story if it's going to be 8 or 10 episodes per season... there might be a few similarities like symbolism etc but that's fine, that stuff gets the viewers hyped anyway (like LOST was in its prime days).

Dude, I hope that chick comes back from episode 2, the one with the big bunnies who cheated with Marty for a filler role lol

Breaking Bad yo! The demise of Combo was tragic, but Badger and his other friend (the skinny junky) are hilarious nonetheless.

BTW, do you know a spinoff series centered around Saul Goodman is going to be filmed?

Thanks for the True Crime suggestion. I watched the first episode of Hannibal recently and I did like it, although I'm not sure I was blown away.

Hannibal gets better...if you keep watching it, it's style will be something you have never seen before (there are some scenes which are brilliantly pieced, freaky too). Laurence Fishburne is crap though, it's like he doesn't fit in this show. But Mads Mikkelsen and Hugh Dancy are great.

True Detective then Hannibal is the best shows going on right now.

I grown to love those two bums too. Skinny Pete. Then i tell myself they are drug addicts. But one just can't get to dislike them.

I'll check out Hannibal in a while. I am hating the fact that somewhere in the middle of Season 4 of BB and will probably finish the whole thing in 2 or 3 days.

I wish I had never watched Breaking Bad so that I could watch it for the first time.

That being said, I think it's probably extremely rewatchable. I am going to start my second viewing soon.

One of the best moments of the whole series has to be that scene where Jesse is breaking back into the car impound lot where the camper is, and he falls through the roof of that portable toilet, then crawls into the camper and starts gagging at his own smell, so he gets the gas mask on and falls asleep. Comedic genius. Comedy and tragedy are so finely intertwined in real life that they are almost two fibers of the same fabric. That's why I like Breaking Bad so much. Complex characters, excellent dialog, incredible plot... :)

Yeah, Skinny Pete is the name. LMFAO. Badger is hilarious for sure.

The funny thing is that I was addicted to Combos (pepperoni pizza flavor) when I was in College, so the Combo reference really hit home. ;)

Try and catch up on True Detective, season 1 finale is coming up next week. Hannibal just started it's second season, like 1 episode in season 2.

There's too much shows I watch atm:

True Detective
Hannibal
The Walking Dead
A Person of Interest
Arrow

(soon to be Game of Thrones)

I need to watch Hannibal.

Season 1 started strong on Hannibal but weakened a bit. Season 2 seems to be off to a good start last week and the reviewers who've seen the entire season 2 really rate it.

You'll like Hannibal but it's no True Detective. Hannibal is beautifully shot and Mads is great, my wife loves him.

The episode in TD where Rust goes in with his old crew to rip off the dealers and it all goes wrong was INSANE television.

Great show.

What a finale!

Omg that Carcosa scene was so intense! Felt like I was actually there! Can't believe a show about hunting a serial killer can make it this intense...and Rust finally let his emotions out at the end, brilliant character development. I suppose that thing we saw in Carcosa was the King in Yellow, it was used as a diety/worship kind of thing.

And yeah, the daughter stuff was easter eggs. Brilliany way to **** of fans though about speculating. I'm gonna miss these two characters man. Literally thought both of them were going to die...then boom, the headshot.

As Nick Pizzolatto said, "The show’s not trying to outsmart you.” The show's always been about Rust and Marty's relationship.
