Tsonga - Wimbledon crash & burn?

Just saw Tsonga play Rogers-Vasselin at Queens last night. I confess I didn't see the entire match, but from what I did see left me with pretty poor expectations of Tsonga at Wimby.

He was either flat-footed or slipping around on the grass, was spraying out simple passing/rally shots, and just looked totally out of kilter. Was letting Rogers-Vasselin, who is not a player that should ever trouble a player of the likes of Tsonga, serve love service games without even bothering to pressure.

The one thing that looked solid was his serve.

I had high hopes for him at Wimbledon, but I am wondering if his confidence is totally shot after his RG defeat.

Could he be bundled out in the early rounds?

Forget about Tsonga, he is not winning a slam. He is not in that group of top tier players who can win a slam.

I would wait until Queens is over, or at least until he's knocked out. It's the first grass tournie of the year for him and there is time to adapt and find form.

He played two matches of 3 sets each in one day, give him a break. He's better when he's against a "very good player", à la Federer, Djokovic or Nadal to some extend. Also very bad in first sets, slow starter. Although he sh@t his pants in Paris despite a deep run, grass should be better than clay for him. Or so he hopes.

I doubt it.

He's very talented - I mean, RG was his second slam semi, yes?

He's just also very inconsistent.

I do not see a crash and burn. I predict Tsonga will at least make it to the same place in Wimbledon than he did at FO.

Whether Tsonga can make the SF greatly depends on his draw. If he gets Federer, Ferrer, or even Djoker in the QF, I think it's possible. But him getting past Murray or Rafa seems like a long-shot to me.

5th, he made the Australian Open semis in 2008 and 2010 (making it to the final in 08), made the Wimbledon semis in 2011 and 2012, and the French Open semis this year.

A lot of the top players have rough starts during the grass transition. Give him a little time, he's still in the tourney after all. His game is perfectly suited for grass, I still have hopes for him at Wimbledon.

Well here's the thing.... By Ferrer getting to the finals at FO, he should be seede 4 and Rafa 5. Thus, Tsonga will likely play Ferrer, Fed, Murray, or Djokovic in the quarters, no possibility of Nadal. Seems Tsonga's chances are better with Rafa at 5 than at 4, no?

I think the only one that benefitted from Tsonga losing to Ferrer at the FO, was Tsonga for Wimbledon, where he has a better chance given his game.

Is that out of the normal routine from Tsonga though?

Like Berdych, he just can't put it together for 6-7 straight rounds

Wasn't just the terrible play though. He was cussing and screaming at almost every point, shaking his head and walking around like a dejected junior player.

Sure he's prone to a bit of a tantrum here and there, but I've never seen him THAT out of it in any of his matches.

Good for Ralph , I guess. One less worry on his way to his third Wimby crown.
It is time for him to draw Tsonga in his quarter (they haven't played at a slam since the AO' 08 drubbing). What better time than when Tsonga is low on confidence and out of form ?
