TTC - French Open Tonight is horrendous

The Tennis Channels "coverage" of the French Open is horrible. I admit I live on the west coast and I don't wake up in the early morning to watch the tennis, but you'd think they'd at least replay something resembling full matches at night. Instead I get to watch Bill Macatee with that sleezy smirk jabber about all the matches they are going to show you (in only 3.5 hours eh?), then have to deal with endless commercial breaks, half sets where they jump in and its already obvious to the viewer who is going to win, the bottom line score ticker showing all the scores for the matches they claim they will show you later, and basically no substantial tennis. Why does it have to be so short and re run like 3 times a night? Why not just start replays at 5:30 and run them til midnight or something? I don't care what roger rasheed and some random clown think about player interactions in the locker room or all the BS interviews they have on there. I can watch those any time of the year, but right now I want to watch TENNIS since this is 2 of only 8 weeks during the year when quality tennis is supposed to be on all day.

The dream that The Tennis Channel was when I first bought it in 2003 will never come to reality, because they've fallen for the trap of trying to make everyone feel important, hype up matches endlessly, and try to incorporate tennis history or some BS. I think anyone who gets the tennis channel really just wants to see tennis. None of this lame stuff, but raw tennis (remember when they covered European masters series like 3-4 years ago and it was straight tennis for like 10 hours with those BBC commentators? Thats what I'm talking about).

I almost want the old ESPN coverage back sad as it may sound

Agree that it should be geared to hardcore fans. And it isn't. The break-ins with the 'Court Reports' with the hotties - are getting annoying.

I do like Bill Macatee - 1000% better than Fowler. I think he does a great job with the interviews (whether they should have so many, that's another topic).

The comment about wanting ESPN coverage made me very sad - and was a little scary... :)

Well the coverage of the actual matches live on TTC is much - much better. Just stay up and watch it live at 2am on TTC or just DVR it. You can actually see the whole matches that way and decent commentators as well. Completely different than the French Open Tonight coverage.

yeah. . . TTC is such a disappointment. same tape 3 times. all the while not showing many of the intriguing matches. very very lame

So true, they go on the premise that their viewers only care about Americans. It being the USA and all, this stereotype could be true, but annoying for true fans who will support someone they like regardless of nationality.
By the way, what is PetrKordaLand? Is there lots of steroid use there?

Spot on, that's exactly what TTC does with the European Masters events. Live matches in the early morning until the last match of the day (usually around noon on the West Coast), and then run the same coverage from like 2PM until midnight. No ticker, exact same commentary and coverage as when it was live.

So they still do it now? I remember when I was home and got to watch like Monte Carlo all night exact same coverage as the live matches from the morning, and it was brilliant. Glad to hear they still do that at least.

And ya I need a DVR I guess

That is what made me into a tennis fan. Until TTC, I only saw games when channel surfing. I had no idea when the slams came on or what a Masters event was. Now I’m hooked. I even like how TTC shows the warm up and gives the stats of how much money each player has earned this year and lifetime.

I somewhat agree (especially about the ticker!) Obviously if I am watching i have not seen the matches yet so I don't want to see scores yet.

ESPN is SO MUCH WORSE. I really miss USA Coverage. It was brilliant.

Then again, I do like to hear analysis as well. It kind of makes things more exciting, but if you'll notice, in other sports, they do the analysis before and after matches not during. For some reason in tennis, they show the match and analyze/interviews DURING the match while cutting away, then when it's over, they just go to Celebrity Tennis or something. I don't see why they don't do a half hour of analysis and interviews after the matches or when coverage goes to ESPN. Who wants to see celebrity tennis?

i never understood why they did not show soderling vs cilic and instead showed Williams sister doubles

i mean in which world is doubles more fun to watch than top guys having at each other, even if it had the great american Williams sisters:confused:

I cant believe we have to pay 5 bucks a month for tennis channel and then see 3 hour reruns all day when we know other good matches are going on

Plus they had already broadcasted it earlier and NBC showed it too

Djokovic/gonz, I was chattin' with a tennis bud a few years back and he mentioned Petr Korda and how he was up and down overall but when he got in the "zone," the guy was unbeatable. Being a lefty and trying to think of a username for this forum, I just chose it.

The fact that I take steriods has nothing to do with this username choice. Just kidding, but I imagine that in Kordaland 'roids are not in short supply. . . Lol
