Sad to see the Bull pull out of 2 tourneys in a row like this.

Looks bad.

Just after cheap points? Sponsor $?

OR Can't manage his body?

But he gets cheap points and keeps someone else from having the chance to play the full WTF. Not cool.

Been better if he'd just pulled out clean like Fed w clay.

I wanna like the great champion bull, but this is not right to me.

Nah. I reckon he's gone and properly injured himself now after playing so much. Hopefully he'll be fine for Melbourne.

He really wanted that win today. He's not chickening out.

You are a man of peace Firstservingman.

You do the forum well.

Maybe I will keep my badge, but put it in a shoe box for a while.

You should be docked points for withdrawing from a tournament after it begins.

Agree, like what Murray did in US Open. It caused big problems in that event.

Also players who turn up and just get through the warm up and then withdraw during the match to get their match payment when they knew they couldn't complete the match because of their health. Very bad imo.

Like I said in another thread, even after seeing the players themselves embracing the philosophy of bromance, its things like these that's keeping some Fed fans away from becoming Fedal fans.

Why? What if you injure yourself during the event?

Or would that be an exception?

Injured during the event was at Paris. This is before the event. He knows his knee was bad. This is the cushion players get in individual sports and often misused. If this was a team sports, the team physio decides who gets to play and who stays on the bench. That's how the responsibility and sportmanship qualities of providing the best competition to your opponent is held right. The responsibility is taken care. In individual sport, its the players responsibility to uphold that value, to be the best opponent to the other player. Playing with injuries thinking one could somehow scrape through is an insult to other players. May be ATP should have a tournament-wise fitness clearance introduced to stop misusing the system.

Fed pulled out from the Paris Masters after the draw was made. He was replaced by Lucas Pouille.
In 2016, Fed withdrew from Miami after the draw was made. He was replaced by Horacio Zeballos

Nadal is genuinely injured this time around. Murray wore himself down last year trying to obtain #1. Hope both of them are fine for next season because as much as I'm a Federer fan, I'm a tennis fan too. None of these players would be who they are without one another.

Unfortunately money doesn't discriminate.

I can see the argument for playing Paris to get cheap points, but not the WTF. He already had YE1 locked up before the tourny started. He only showed up because he wanted to win it for once. He took a chance and it didn't work out. And he very nearly still beat Goffin on one leg today.

Also I doubt world #10 Pablo is stewing over the fact that he missed out at playing the full schedule of his first ever WTF.

And there's no way you were ever on the "FEDAL UNITED fan club" if this is what sent you over the edge.

The Paris draw was made before Basel even finished. Fed was scheduled to play Paris and probably would have if he had lost earlier in Basel. Sorry he had to play all the way to the final Sunday and didn't want to immediately play another tournament that week. It's easy to honor all your commitments when you're losing early.

And he withdrew from Miami 2016 with a stomach virus, not a pre-existing injury. They're not the same thing at all. Andy hadn't played for months before the USO and should have known at least a day earlier that he wasn't ready to come back.

Really disappointing from Nadal here. This was just a bad look all-around. Showing up to collect a paycheck, knowing that you'll pull out immediately after one match is disappointing and not something you'd expect from a pro like Rafa.

A lot of Fed fans here, especially the louder ones, are always looking for a chance to attack Nadal, even if he does normal things like this. Like cmon, he withdrew with injury, how is it possible to even critique that? At least he tried. He could have easily retired before the end of the match too, but he chose to play it out because he's a fighter.

He didn't tank the match and you could see he wanted to win even when injured....Federer fans are basically targeting Nadal's never say die attitude which so pathetically cheap

Probably overplayed in order to be #1.

I suppose Roger was wise letting it go.
Not so sure about that, he took 3 weeks off after the USO, and 2 more after Shanghai. That doesn't sound like overplaying.

But I do agree Roger was smart to prioritize longevity as he always has.

Agree. These are exactly the type of withrawals @Bartelby is talking about. If punishments existed maybe players would think twice about getting themselves in these predicaments and not do bad withdrawals.

Again it’s hilarious that nadal is so bad in this regard that you need to say hey no wait look at the 35/36 year old post surgery version of Federer

Lol it’s so funny

It’s like saying hey guys lay off nadal for only having 1 indoor title err err look davednko only has... oh wait he has 6 titles bad example but nadal isn’t that bad indoors look at fognini (please don’t tell me fognini has more indoor titles than nadal)

You can’t give nadal moral victories and say he would morally win more if he wasn’t injured and then at same time praise him like you are now for a ridiculous playing style that has never allowed him to play a full season even in his twenties. Can’t have it both ways. A style that he refused to change regardless of this. A style he refuse to change after going 7-0’agianst Djokovic twice and one he isn’t going to change after fed has beaten him 5-0
