Donald Young has now won 2 of his last 3 matches on the ATP tour, after losing his first 11, and his loss was a real tough 3 setter in a best 2-of-3 to the current World #4. Fresh off his first win in a Grand Slam event he will take on the extremely talented young Frenchman Richard Gasquet. Gasquet has had a quiet and sluggish summer after his breakthrough performance at Wimbledon.

Both flashy shotmakers, but Gasquet a much more experienced shot-maker and is simply stronger overall.

But, I think Young could cause a little bit of trouble since Gasquet is streaky and Young is playing pretty well. Young would do well to go into grinder mode and look to frustrate Gasquet into errors. Easier said than done.

Gasquet in 4.

G in 4. But I saw Young yesterday, he looks really good, clearly has grown. If he can get 6 ft and 170 lb he can play with the big boys. Now he looks like 5'10, 160. He should have room to grow.

I think DY is starting to build some confidence that could carry him through this match. Gasquet tends to be very streaky at times. If Gasquet isnt on, I give the slight edge to the american.

Yes, it will be a great game to watch but what about RG against Federer only 2 rounds later...

Rg in 3.

This should be a fun game, with plenty of excellent shot-making displays. I still think Gasquet will win, but I'd be surprised if Young didn't push him at least.

Shot making from DY ??? what the hell ?

Has anyone seen his games. He seems to be more of a counter puncher, retriever kind of player. Some body who will try to run down the opponents shots. Definitely does not have the ability to create out right winners early in a point.

Some of the posts here seem to suggest that he is some where in the class of Gasquet in terms of shot making which seems to be silly.

I'm kind of giving Young the benfit of the doubt and say Gasquet wins in 5 sets, lol. I think it will be an intersting match.

DY has gotten better at hitting the ball instead of just pushing and counter punching. He showed some of that in his match with Davydenko. He's going to have to for his shots alot with his match with Gasquet. Just counter punching won't get it done. If he can go for his shots and use his hands at net he can make intersting at the least, for sure.

Donald definitely has shot making ability, I've seen him hit some winners out of no where, he might not do it out of regularity but he has the ability. Don't sell him that short.

I've seen DY's last 2 matches, DY takes it in 4. Gasquet has a weak forehand and DY has an incredible return game. He's gonna break Gasquet, the question is can he hold his own serve enough. He seemed to learn from the Davy match already by spreading the serve around the box more against Guccione instead of going for bomb after bomb.

I'd LIKE to say DY in 4 because i have respect for him, but then again I like Gasquet too. Gasquet seems to be on and off though, sometimes his backhand is crazy, but sometimes he just gets owned (by canas, anyone?)

I'm going to predict a Gasquet in 4, first three sets tight.

This is going to be a great match, filled with potential talents. But, unless Gasquet has some huge mental breakdown, he's not dropping a set. Young will have his time but I'm sorry Gasquet in 3.

I'm just glad he won a round this year. It's an important step that he needed to take. But I think Gasquet will be too much for him. He's got time though.

Well, i dont know about you guys, but personally,

1. If i'm playing someone crap, i play crap
2. If i play someone REALLY good, despite losing, i might play really good.

Against Gasquet, im sure DY will at least get a set. RG's forehand is attackable, as is his serve. His backhand IS attackable as well, as is everyone elses, it's just not AS attackable as Guccione's.

I like both of these players. I think a loss would be tougher on Gasquet then Young though, so for that reason I would cheer for Gasquet. Also I think Gasquet would give Federer a better match then Young.

Just heard about that. Man did Young catch a break there. I don't know how his section of the draw is but I know his next round opponent is managable (Couirer said Lopez but that doesn't help at all).

Yeah, looking at the draw it's either Feliciano Lopez or Igor Andreev.

Either one of those is winnable for Donald Young, Gasquet would have been a much tougher opponent for him than either of those two, in my totally biased opinion.

Whichever one he plays though it's probably going to be on Saturday, right?

If so, CBS action, baby.

I normally don't go to the Open until the men's quarter-final match on Thursday night, it's developed into sort of a tradition with our group.

Donald Young playing on Saturday though I may have to try and scrounge-up some good seats if he's on Arthur Ashe (if he's anywhere else then obviously it's no problem).

Anyway. Rumble, young man, rumble. Aaahhh!!!

Lopez and Andreev are both decent hardcourters, though...I think it may be tough, as both of them also have an experience edge over Donald.

Can't believe Gasquet pulled out. What's up that? He said he was fine on Monday. Lucky break for the Donald.

Fever & sore throat? Wonder what MJ thinks of tennis players. At least try.

Young's ranking will really go up after this event.

I can't believe he's entered in the juniors next week, there should be some rule against that.

They just showed an interview with Gasquet, he pulled out due to fever and sore throat. That sucks, but this is a Grand Slam. I think he could have atleast taken some tylenol to reduce his fever and given it a go. It would have shown some heart on his part. If he could have managed to stick it out and get past Donald, he would have had another day or two of rest to kick the fever, unless its some kind of infection like strep throat or something that will require antibiotics, but he didnt mention anything about that.

HOLY HELL. I was just looking for the match on schedule of play and was wondering why the HECK it wasnt being played today.

wow. shocking. well at least i get to see Young play probably Lopez - great match

What the -- ?

First Justine retires from a Slam final with a tummy ache.

Then Gasquet pulls out because he's feeling under the weather? When all he has to do is hold on against a very beatable player and then he gets some rest? Geez, at least embellish a bit and say it was stomach flu.

I'm embarrassed for our sport.

I agree with this. Michael Jordan played in the NBA playoff game after having fever up to 102 degrees just that morning. And he scored 52 points and blew everyone away. Spoiled baby Gasquet refuse to play cause his mommy isn't here to comfort him.

I know right. Take a damn Tylenol and be a man. I don't think he knows how many fans he lets down when he withdraws all the time. This just goes to show that maybe he doesn't want it enough. At least give it a try. It would be a whole lot more respectable if he went out there and if he still wasn't feeling well then default. This has a lot more to do with confidence than being sick in my opinion. If he truly cared about this tournament than we wouldn't have withdrew. Pathetic. Oh well, good for Donald Young.
