I believe this match deserves a tread, since there's a chance it will be Fish's last match from an incredible career.

How good are Fish's odds for tomorrow, you'd say?

Until The Real Slam, Fish was out of water. He upset a similarly seeded player (Troicki) there and played Murray fairly well (4-6, 6-7). He has a shot today.

This is a great match up. Fish definitely has advantage head to head, but Feleciano playing great and Fish has hardly been playing. I think Fish wins a great match.

Glad to see this match has its own thread!

Crucial stage of this match. I do NOT like Fish's chances if this thing goes into a fifth.

Come on Mardy!!

Just followed up on his anxiety disorder and so happy for him! You just want to root for him. Go Fish!!

BTW...Nice return!!

Dammit, he didn't deserve to go out like this. Lopez' gotta be the stronger player in the 5th. Fish just crumbled at 5-4, 3 shots out by an inch or 3 and then one in the net.

Deliciano looks like he's about to pass out on the court. If Mardy's brain doesn't betray him he's maybe still got a good chance at this.

Some of the best moments are the ones you don't see coming. That's why people love the underdog story. Unfortunately that's lost on you.
No, I've seen the movies too. But I recognize the difference between a script and real life.

You don't win a Grand Slam tournament on your farewell tour. Assuming that's possible is not giving enough credit to the 127 other players in the draw.

Mac now soapboxing about the fifth set tiebreaker issue, in a tournament that has a fifth set tiebreaker.

You seriously don't understand the concept of an underdog. The WHOLE IDEA is that Fish is almost certainly not going to win. That's exactly why it would be magical if he did. Do I really have to explain the concept of an underdog to you? And that it's prevalence in movies comes from it's ocurence in reality? Jeez. No one said it was going to happen. It almost certainly won't.

No, you don't understand that in this thread everyone's talking about a fitting end for Mardy Fish, the professional tennis player, not Mardy Fish - starring as Mardy Fish in "The Big Farewell".

The point isn't that Fish has to win the US Open in order to make this tournament worthwhile. That he's playing at all is already a treat. Every match he wins now just adds to the great story that is Mardy Fish and his wish to end his career on his own terms. He can lose this set and it would still be worth it. But every step forward he takes adds to the excitement and the inspirational qualities of this tournament.

Even more so than the awareness that Fish has brought to Generalized Anxiety Disorder is the awareness he has brought to athletes who choose to perform in no-show socks.

Fish is a perfect example of how you achieve great things when you really go for it 100%

Looks to be cramping a lot but still 2 BPs up

Fish can hardly run anymore, nor get up to his serve - but he's just smacking winners left and right instead. Will see how long he can last, 3-all, 2 BPs!

Respect. He is clearly cramping but he is nonetheless hanging in there.... (Lopez is kinda helping his case though..lol)

Nobody would disagree with that.
Anyhow, onwards and upwards. Big hold from Lopez, big chance from Fish gone away. I think Lopez breaks now and runs away with it. Fish can hardly walk or serve.

Every winner ends his career by losing. It's only a question of how you lose. A five-setter where you had a chance to win isn't a bad way to go.
Did you watch the match!?!? I'm talking about the fact that he can't even walk anymore
