US Open monotonous automated line call voice

It's probably just me, but that automated line call voice is like finger nails on the blackboard. Why can't they use a random mix of 10 calls or so, instead of the same recording every time. Same pitch, same volume, same tone, same intensity, same everything. Time after time after time after time after time after . . . . .

I'm turning it off. Worse than Azarenka used to be.

I have to agree on TV. I just spent the last two days in Ashe and Armstrong and in person it was not as annoying.

Prior to going I was hating it on the big screen in my family room.

I think people are getting way too worked up about this. I'm barely even noticing this voice :-D the one during I think it was the ATP Finals last year that was really loud and clearly detached from any kind of humanity definitely bothered me. I guess it's always going to be worse in an empty indoor arena than an open air stadium full of people, but I definitely think it's improved since they started doing it.

Though I can't blame anyone for being worried at this being one more sign that we're edging closer to Skynet, the Matrix, all that good stuff. They're coming for us, guys.

Yes, it's horrifying

There is more than one voice. Not sure if it is one voice per line or one per court. I hate them. Remember when they brought in cyclops to call serves. They could use an electronic sound.

I would be happy with something simple like this.

I think one voice is used when the ball is out long, after the baseline, and the second is when the ball is out wide.

Nevertheless, I agree, it's very irritating.

That pleasant sound would work just fine. The ATP is a worthless bureaucracy. And bureaucrats always get it wrong. Always.

Actually not just you. I hate it.

I'm sure a lot of these finer details will be ironed out in time, and with "focus groups." Usually takes a few years to iron out all of the problems when introducing instant replay/VAR/electronic anything.

Maybe they can add a little WTT-style and add some pizzazz to the whole thing, like playing McEnroe yelling "You cannot be serious!!" when a ball just catches the outside of the line, or Johnny Cash doing "I Walk the Line" when a ball lands squarely on the line. Hank Williams singing "Long Hauls and Close Calls" when a ball just misses in the fifth set?

They use multiple voices as someone mentioned earlier. The problem is that it’s the same recording every time. I’m not crazy about it but really it’s the lack of variation. What the y should do is have the various voices make five or six varied recordings an randomly alternate between them. Specific voices call specific lines but a little variation would go a long way in making it feel more human

Geez, what's so irritating? Doesn't particularly sound any different than when there were Djokotargets standing there yelling out the calls

You know what they say, when you think you're right and everyone disagrees - reconsider.
