Man...Vedasco's forehand is a thing of beauty, when it works.

Notice how much more penetration it has compared to Nadal's on this court.

Ferrer: ok, nando, the winner of this rubber has to play nadal in the SF so how about if we make a deal?

Verdasco: what do you mean? we need to play to win, no? that's what rafa would want.

Ferrer: don't you see that it would be a matter of endless shame back in spain if one of us were to beat nadal in the us open when he's so close to winning it to complete the career GS? it would be considered as unpatriotic and the press would kill us.

Verdasco: oh it's not like i'm thinking about beating nadal in the first place but i guess you're right becuase sometimes it's hard to control oneself... we definitely need to make a deal to be 110% sure. it's for Rafa's sake after all. what's on your mind?

Ferrer: well, i was thinking, I take the first 2 sets and you grab the next two. The final set -and the final set only- we can play it to win to the best of our abilities

Verdasco: sound like a plan, david. you've got yourself a deal!!

Ferrer: okay, but we've got to make the first 4 sets close to give the image that we're both trying to win, right?

Verdasco: you really think so?

Ferrer: of course, Nando. if not it would give space to bad people to confirm the rumours of our relationship with rafa.

Verdasco: You're right... you're so smart, david.

Verdasco is SO talented, he really is. I wonder if he puts in the time and concentration into his playing that Rafa does. If not and he started doing so, I think he could be one of our greats. Alas, thus far this year he's been somewhat inconsistent!

Hilarious. And now totally imagining that they talk like this, but with posh english accents. Doesn't really work with them being Spanish, but whatever..

i can imagine them talking like that in spanish... i could have written it in spanish (i'm a native spanish speaker) but not many people would have understood it, i guess.

of course, it's all for laughs anyway. glad you guys enjoyed it.

Loving this match. Not only is it a good match, but the winner will be dead meat for Nadal after this marathon. Not that either of these had much chance to begin with.

well they get a full day off. Dasco had a tough 1st rounder but how about the other matches? I think this is ferrer's first 5 setter.

Actually now you say that, I can imagine it in Spanish Buzz voice. I'm over tired. Either way, it was entertaining. :)

IIRC dasco lost a similar match to this at the AO vs. davydenko. Fought hard, got some chances early in the 5th vs. davydenko (who looked worn out) but then lose after he couldn't convert.

Agree, and he's fun to watch too. So much excitement and passion. He'd be in my top tier if he got his mentality together. I've always enjoyed watching him play.
