USTA survey about leagues ? (40's format)

Got a survey today from our league admin asking about formats and one of the questions asked whether you favor the 2/3 format or the 1/3 format for the 40's leagues. I really hope the USTA is considering going back to the 2/3 format and I hope everyone who gets this survey takes a minute to respond.

I am much much more concerned about the question asking about making mixed leagues a one weekend single or double elimination tournament. I was actually going to text you about it. I'm pretty riled up over it.
But, to your point, I will age up to 40's next year and I did vote to go back to 2/3.

No survey in this area thus far. Would absolutely vote to go back to 2/3

Now on the mixed weekend thing .... for 18+ mixed we have a standard 10 week season (with a few byes for easter and memorial day). But for 40+ mixed we do it as a 4 day tournament. Round robin. You may have more than one match per day.

Gotta say, it is a lot of fun.

Had always been a Thurs - Sun .... this year we are doing it Mon-Thurs with night matches. Not certain what I think about that. The weather is better (last season had matches at 3pm when temps were over 105F) but 40+ and night tennis don't mix so well under the lights.

I haven't gotten any survey yet, but I'm quitting 40s after this year. The insanely stupid format isn't the whole reason, but it's a significant one.

Yeah, I'm sending out an email to all my mixed and over 40 teammates to encourage them to take a minute to fill out the survey, I feel like a lot of people don't take the time and that's why we end up with these bad formats.

I would be fine with 2/3 or even 1/4. I hate the 1/3 garbage takes away playing opportunities. I was even fine with allowing 1 or 2 5.0's to play.
Yes, I actually think having a couple of 5.0's is a good thing, some of those guys have nowhere else to play because the open 5.0 league has limited spots.

It is so dumb when you can’t win a match straight out and rely on tiebreakers.

I was just looking at Southern 40&over 3.5 sectionals and it’s awful.

GA(B) beat SC on a tiebreaker. So after 3 matches GA is 3-0 with 7 individual court wins and SC is 2-1 with 10 individual court wins.

What did they use as the tie-breaker?

I believe it is % games won, but need to double check
Yeah, the standard tie-breaker eventually gets to that, but they may look at sets lost and games lost first.

In the regular season, some areas have used the winner of court 1 doubles as the tie-breaker.

Our local league goes to sets then games.

I think the tie-breaker of court 1D is a good one ... or at least better than other options ... but really only 4 courts for an advancing league is just plain dumb.

The whole thing is effing infuriating. They should call it the USDA (doubles) since they clearly hate singles tennis.
