Völkl C10 Pro Club!

Hi,

does anyone know the following data for the latest Volkl C Pro 10 stick (yellow one 2019):

Twistweight (there are several values between 13 and 14 on TW University)
Strung RA stiffness rating (values range from 60-64 on the net)

Have both tiwstweight and RA increased for this racquet over the years ?

Many thanks.

I just picked up two of the 2018 version on a trade. Strung with my string of choice, leather grip and OG, weight is 358.5gm and 30.75cm balance. Played with it for one set this morning.
It is VERY comfortable, VERY easy to redirect pace, and headlight enough that serving is no problem. My guess is SW is only around 330, so the racquet does not feel like a sledgehammer. This is the first heavy racquet I've hit with that is also this headlight. Will keep testing ...

I've been using the C10 Pro for 20+ years now, and my collection goes back to the original fish scale version. I've added a couple of racquets here and there over the years and have found them all to be similar enough, but I just picked up to of the more recent matte black ones and find the balance to be quite different. Has anyone else found this to be the case?

For me, the newer racquets are less head light (and so feel more weighted toward the end of the racquet vs. all of my other ones). This makes the racquet feel heavier overall, even though it's not much different from the others on the scale (although in weighing them all, found one outlier, one of the glossy yellow ones after the fish scale version, that's a full oz heavier than the others).

Is this an official change, or is it something with these two? As it turns out, I bought these on an auction site and the guy listed the grip size as 1/2 but they weren't, so I had to have my local shop do the palette thing, but they were the Volkl palettes so that shouldn't matter.
How headlight are your older ones? The 2018 versions I just received are 11pt HL strung, no modifications.

The pair that I primarily use are mostly black with some yellow around the top half of the hoop, probably circa their Organix era because the font is the same as what's on my pair of O10's. I added lead tape to the handles of these to get more HL balance and they're working great for me at 12.5 oz. and about 11 pts. HL.

A buddy of mine bought a new C10 for himself last summer and it seemed to be pretty close to my older ones, but I didn't like it without the leaded handle. Not that it was bad, but its balance just wasn't as familiar feeling for me as the ones I've been swinging for a while. I didn't measure his, but it seemed to be around 8-9 pts. HL in that stock layout.

Just joined the club. Cyclone at 45. TW Leather + overgrip. Pearled yellow paint is beatiful and simple. One of the prettiest rackets I own. Hits nice, just like everyone says, but the most interesting thing about it is that it’s nearly identical to my orange Yonex Vcore Tour HG. It’s uncanny. The C10 Pro is more powerful, what with the longer mains, and the Yonex has more control, what with the extra cross string, but that’s about it. Great racket though. Might have to buy another when the price drops.

Been a 10 year user of the Becker Melbourne, looking for 2 years for a frame to move to, since they are starting to lose their punch. Found the C10 pro by accident and after 4 hitting sessions and some practice sets, I have decided to move to this frame full time. It reminds me of an arm friendly ncode 6.1. plenty of power, good control and so far agreeable with my arm. I added 3"1/4 lead tape and 2:00 & 10:00 to brig the sweet spot up a bit and it plays fantastic. This frame really makes me want to go after my shots. the launch angle is very similar to my Melbournes, but the frame has a lot more pop. Good serving frame and good at the net. My hitting partner told me today that he hasn't seen me play as well a s I did today in years. I have it strung with 16G VS gut at 58# and it feels perfect. It is a 12+oz racquet, which I like, but I could see this frame posing a challenge if I am tired, because of the weight. But so far it has not been an issue.

I just started to, and so far absolutely love it!

Just to clarify... are you now playing with the C10 Pro (which is 98 sq. in.) or the C10 Pro Tour (which is a 93 sq. in.)?

I had the impression it was the C10 Pro, but in the last post you said otherwise. I assume it was a mistake. Cheers

Is anyone still using the C10 Pro Tour?

I've never played with it but was close to buying it once. I've heard great things but can never find them for a reasonable price. I have too many racquets in my collection (including 4 C10 Pros), so probably will never get one... but you never know.

played another 90 minutes tonight. All my shots are there except by 1HBH drive and slice. Still trying to find the sweet spot on that side. When I hit them well, they rifle off the frame. When I hit too high in the hoop they either sail or fall very short. Played some good points tonight and really like the frame. The weight does get to me after 90 minutes but If i stay focused and get good early prep on my shots, No problem.

I used the C10 PT for about 12-14 years. I finally had to find another racquet to switch over to because I could not find any more decently priced or in decent condition C10 PT's to buy. My favorite racquet of all the ones I have ever used or tried using. A FANTASTIC racquet for control and feel.

I do have one in pretty good condition that is unwanted. If you're at all interested I can take a few pics and see what you think.

Got a 2nd C10, this time from TW. Immediately felt lighter in hand than my other one. Played for 2 hours last night, first hour with the one i have been using. 58# vs gut lead tape at 10:00 & 2:00, 2nd hour use my new one 58# 16G Technifibre NRG 2 at 58#, no weight added. The new one felt like it swung easier and I was not getting the depth of shot I get with my other one. I have never used NRG but it felt pretty good. My 1HBH started to get dialed in last night with both frames and I am starting to find a good groove with these frames. I have to get them on a scale and see if they are actually different or not. Volkl QC is usually pretty good, but now that everything is made in china I don't anticipate that they will match. I hit the last 10 minutes with one of my Melbournes and I still like that frame better from everywhere on the court except serving, but not by much but as I have said in other posts, they are 10 years old and the three I have are all starting to play a little differently than each other and they have lost a lot of their pop that they once had.I still prefer an 18 x 20 over a 16 x 19, but the C10 pro looks like like as long as it does not bother my shoulder will be a keeper.

Went on vacation last week and hit a few times with the c10 pro with the gut and lead tape. Have not used the stock TW frame for more than 1/2 hr. Finally played some singles with it and my impressions are as follows:
Grip and launch angel: I use an eastern grip with my Melbournes. I installed Attiva palltes and they work great for me. The Volkl grip is more square and I find that If I use an eastern grip I tend to send a few routine balls long. By shifting to a semi western grip I can add more spin and keep the balls in play with more pace and spin, but I have to be consciously moving to that grip as it is not yet natural for me. Same on my 1HBH side. I have to really be in a semi western grip as well on that side so I can rip the ball with authority, otherwise Hit Long. launch angle is a little higher than the melbourne. Not a bad thing, just not used to it yet. If I can find any, I will probably change the pallets on the c10 as well.
Serving: The weight of this frame can be an asset or a liability depending on how you use it. This is a great serving frame as long as I let the frame do the work. If I try to really blast serves by staying relaxed and use my legs, no problem. If I am tired and start using more muscle and less leg drive,I can still serve okay, but I lose some pop. fantastic frame for S&V.
Volleys: I like an 18 x 20 string bed better across the board, but especially for volleys. This frame is solid up at the net, but again I can spray a few that come out of nowhere, that I would paste with my Beckers. Again 10 years with the Beckers, so I am giving this frame more time as it is solid when I execute properly and it is sweet when you hit the ball well.
Groundstrokes: This is where this frame surprises me. It has more flex and is more HL than my Beckers, but once I figured out the grip issue, you can pound groundstrokes with this frame, unlike most any other frame I have tried. The feel, ball cupping and launch off the string bed is addictive. I have to consciously be moving to that ball with my shoulder turned and with good racket prep on both sides or due to the weight, I can be late on shots, but If I am in good position to strike the ball, I can generate good spin and weight of shot on both sides.. I went back & forth between the Becker and C10 yesterday during a hitting session and both frames had the exact same set up and strings and my hitting partners I was working out with both agreed that the weight of shot & pace was bigger with the C10 pro. the only potential issue, again could be the higher swing weight, if I am late or lazy the balls land short or sail.( as with most frames, right?). I can create great angles and easily keep the ball deep, creating many options during a rally.
return of serve: excellent!! the mass allows me to block hard serves deep with ease and any weak or slow 2nd serves are easy to tee off on and still keep good control. Great chip and charge frame as well because the slice has a good bite to it with good depth.
Overall a solid frame with no major weakness. Super comfortable and absorbs shock very well. Super feel, unlike any of the newer frames I have tried and very solid. The only issue I can see is the weight being an issue in a long match. This frame makes me want to come up to the net and finish point because you can hit big shots from anywhere on the court. This frame kind of reminds me of a more user friendly Dunlop 200 tour that I used for a while before I discovered the Beckers. Great heavy frame, but a 60, even though I am extremely fit, I do have a frail right shoulder and I could see serving out a long match being a challenge compared to my Melbournes.
I have a few friendly matches set up for this week, so i will see how I do. I'' leave the Melbournes at home so They will be out of mind if things get complicated. I know this a long review, but I have to say, I am impressed with this frame much more than any other of the ""new"" frames out there that I have recently tried. sadly, The new Volkls don't come close to the feel this frame offers. They feel much cheaper and muted.

basil J, you're makin me want to dust off and string my last few remaining C10s!
I'm currently playing another black & yellow - the new PK Black Ace and it's a pillow of a hit.
You're right about the feel of the newer Volks. The only one that comes close is the Tour 10 Gen I.

BTW, my C10s are 1st stage post prototype models, one being West German mfg. Are the newer C10s similar in feel to the older ones?

Volkl should re release the older C10’s with the lower SW’s and Tour 10mp. So disappointed with what they are making right now. My saving grace is the PB 10 Mid which is my favourite stick that I can still get.

I know I have said this before, but I do think Volkl have pretty much deserted their traditional fan base. I know that this forum is perhaps a micro snap shot of the world racquet buying community, but I do wish the company would take some time to get some feedback.
I have noticed that other companies have participated on this forum and even appeared on the podcast to share their ideas to the world. It seems that brands like Volkl and Pacific are not proactive and for that reason their market share will decline even more to be replaced by other companies who are showing more enthusiasm.

I changed my settings and think you can send me a private message now, if you like. I can then send some pics of the racquet although I probably won't get to that until the weekend as we've just started Week 1 of semester and I'm already snowed under.

Just started using what I think is a 2008 edition of the C10. Follwing Fuzz nation's well troddend path of synthetic gut 17 at around 58 and some lead around the handle to balance things up a bit and get a slightly whippier frame. Swings beautifully and quickly through the ball and sublime feel. Can put the ball on a spot. Haven;t tried serving yet, but forehand and OHBH can drive through the ball with control and spin. I love the flexibility and dwell time - gives great confidence in where the shot is going.

i tend to agree. most of the TW reviews ive read of recent models is critical of the feel. somehow volkl has gone from being known for their plush feel to being known for some of the worst feeling racquets on the planet. the exception is their classic racquets. the reissue v1 classic is a surprisingly good tweener and the c10 hasnt been completely ruined … yet.

By the way do we know when we should get a new look revamp for the C10 Pro? This one was released in 2019 I think... it should be quite soon, now that the V Cell line is complete,...

Ok got my C10 Pro

First, 330 gr is something to get used to haha... you really have to be in shape and not be late on the ball... but damn this thing just crushes the ball!!

Flat serves are real BOMBS!! I was literally laughing during my serves... I was so surprised to see the speed of the ball... 2HBH is also effortless with this stick.
Surprisingly powereful also for a control frame. Was happy with the Razo Code choice... might even go for 125 instead of the 120 I have... or bumb up the tension from 22kg to 23kg...

Definitely not the stick I will choose for everyday, but a nice one when you want to practice your placement and force you to prepare, move and be early on the ball... because when you're not, you will know it!!! :) :)

Went on a demo spree this week. I have been playing the prince TT100P for about a month and am really struggling with lack of feel off the ground with it. Its a great serving stick, but my game is built around all court tennis, and I need to feel confident on my groundstrokes. I try to play quick points with this frame due to my growing lack of confidence off the ground. It has the modern cheap hollow feel I am really growing to despise.
Frames I tried this week:
Yonex Vcore pro 97 H 330. best of the bunch, but nothing to make me want to switch to it
Volkl vcell 320: stiff cheap feeling. Was shocked it was a Volkl
Babolat Pure Aero: Actually pretty good. the demo had Multi strings so it wasn't bad on my arm. great pop and spin.
Wilson pro staff 97 v16: 2nd favorite behind the Yonex, but still felt nothing like prostaffs of the past that I have happily used( hyper and ncode)
Wilson Clash 100 pro.: Not bad but way too dampened for my tastes.
Pulled out the C10 pro, which I have not used since September and found it overall a better fit for me than the listed frames above. This frame rips through the ball like no other frame I have used, except for maybe the ncode 6.1. It is heavy, but not really any heavier than the frames I have gravitated to over the last 15 years, so once I got that out of my mind and just played with it I found that it rewards aggressive ball striking, yet still gives you great slices and very good spin.
I hit with a teaching pro this week and he had not seen a c10 pro in years and felt that I matched up well with it. I have decided to commit to this frame for the winter and not try out any more sticks. My focus is on footwork, speed and consistent tennis over the winter so I come out swinging and tournament ready for the spring. I still have 3 good melbournes, but the C10 pr gives me a whole higher level of feel and power that the melbys don't provide me. I have 2 that weigh in at 12.6 oz strung, with an overgrip. I will play them in stock form, strung with VS gut at 58# for now. these frames shine everywhere, but especially on return of serves and off the ground.

Here is my lone C10 Pro strung with Multifeel 1.35 @ 26/26 kg. Grip is L2

I picked it up from the clearance peg at my LTS for a good price. (Does anyone know what release year this pj is?).

With a leather grip and two OGs it's 362 grams.

2014 I believe. It was for sale in 2014, at least.

Personally it’s my favorite C10 Pro cosmetic.

If the paint is glossy and the top of the racquet is yellow in colour... it is the 2012 iteration (one of my favourites). If on the other hand, the paint is matte and the top of the racquet is more a fluorescent yellow (which from the pictures it does NOT look like it is - but hard to tell as to me it looks glossy), then it's the 2015 iteration.

Hope that helps. Mine is around that weight as well. Absolutely crushes the ball and is a monster on serve. I hope you get many great years from it.

I’ve been really enjoying playing with my C10 (I think it’s the 2017 or 18 version). It’s plush, has tons of power and control (I always thought a racquet had one or the other), and the feel is very good (maybe not on par with my PT630/280 but then those sticks are much lower power). I think the strings in there are mush, so plan to restring with something reasonably crisp like BK and see how it goes.

Played a good match yesterday against a decent 3.5-low 4.0 player. All my shots were gelling, as my opponent was steady, but did not hit very big off of either side, so I felt like I had lots of time to set up and crank every shot without much pressure. He did have a great first serve, and the c10 is just a joy for returns. You can block, chip or drive the ball with ease as the mass of the frame does all of the work for you. I never chip my forehand returns, but I was doing it with ease today. I was hitting a lot of low hard slice returns and coming in behind many of them and I was getting lots of easy volley put aways. Serving was consistent, but I wasn't getting the easy bombs I get with my prince TT100p, but I think they will come as I get acclimated to the additional weight. At 58# with 16G vs gut, this feels like a nice set up, though i am tempted to see what poly will like in this frame, as is, it does not bother my shoulder at all. I will say that this type of frame rewards aggressive play and It delivers some heavy groundstrokes that feel like my old Dunlop 200g tour or my old ncode 6.1. The weight distribution on this frame is nearly perfect for my game. I have another match tomorrow against a better player, so I will see how I hold up. I find that playing indoors allows you to really feel a frame better than playing outdoors for some strange reason, even though I play my majority of ball outside.

The funny thing is, the more I use the C10 and its relative I bought up on the ...ay recently (Tour 10 Gen 1), the better they seem to play. They both have this can't miss element. Strung with multi or SG in high 50s they are just so reliable for me. I am thinking about following Basil's route and trying NG once I pop the SG. Simply great rackets- developed at a time when Volkl knew what they were aiming at.

Played a match against an opponent that drives me nuts, hard flat low forehands and sidespin slice backhands with a good first and second serve. I won 6-4, 6-1. Returning serve was great today, as I let the frame do the work. I sliced my 1HBH much more than usual today to try to bring my opponents level of play down so I could get some sitters or force some errors. The driving slice with this frame is excellent. I found myself hitting flatter shots om my FH side than usual in response to his shots, which took me off my game a bit, but I was getting good pace and depth on demand regardless. As long as I kept my arm relaxed and let the frame do the work, ground strokes and serving were nice and fluid with good pace and spin. I need a few more hours of court time to get really dialed in, but I am really enjoying how stable this frame plays without bothering my shoulder.

Did a cardio tennis session today and really enjoyed the mass of this frame at the net today. Class focused on moving forwards and finishing at the net. As I use this frame more & more, it is apparent that you really have to finish every stroke and use long strokes to get the best out of this frame. Good prep is key to using this frame with any success as it punishes you if you are lazy or try to get wristy. Swinging volleys were just cracking off the string bed and punch volleys were hard deep and low. The pro teaching the class used a c10 pro about 15 years ago and now uses a pure strike 16 x 19 and was surprised that these were still available. he said he could never use a heavy frame like this now. my response:" you'd be surprised if you gave it a shot". I have lost some of the easy serving pace I was getting with the TT100P I had been using, but every other aspect of my game is much better with the Volkl.

Yes I agree with that. I also like the Tour 10 mp 325 and the V Engine 10mp as well.
I also liked the BB 11 mid. It had a 16 x 19 pattern and I assume it was positioned against the pb10 mid on the Volkl side. For a Mid, it had plenty of power and spin. I used it for a summer and moved to the BB 11mp and eventually to the Melbourne which hands down has been my favorite frame over the last 12 years. The c10 pro does not have the same feel as the DNX frames, but holds it's own just fine in its own right. my wife got me a Tourna c150 stringer for Xmas, so Once I learn to how o string I will be trying more strings out with the c10.

Lost a tough one to a younger 4.5 pal of mine today 1-6, 6-4, 4-6. Although my C10's weigh exactly the same as my Melbournes (12.6 strung with head tape), the swing weight on the C10 fells substantially higher. My opponent felt in warmups that he had never seen me hit the ball better, but once the match started I started to make some uncharacteristic errors, especially on short balls and 1HBH drives, spraying a few point ending shots long. This Frame is so solid, that it makes me want to hit bigger than I need to, and I have been losing points that are firmly in my control. Serving was solid today. My opponent is like a backboard and gets everything I throw at him back, but he felt constantly under pressure and thought I was serving well. I really need to stay relaxed with this frame and let it do most of the work. I am still getting used to it, and I did start to feel the weight a bit towards the end of the match, but that weight also inspires me to hit some crazy heavy groundies that's quite an addictive sensation, so I need to reel it in a bit in match play. My BH slice today was really working, and my teaching pro has been trying to get me to use it more often as it is an effective shot. I try to come over most shots to my BH side and I need to change that a bit, but overall I was pretty happy with my performance today. I realistically probably need at least 10 more hours on court to get really dialed into this frame, as it is very unique but pleasant to play with. Much more powerful than my Melbournes, but the control is not there yet.

Had a very physical workout with my pro today. really focused on leg drive on my groundstrokes and serves. Having a bad hip for years, I have many bad habits engrained in my play revolving around footwork I am trying to erase, and a teaching professional is really helping me a lot with this. I am still struggling a little with the grip shape on these as they are more rectangular than my Beckers that have Attiva pallets installed. Ihe launch angle with these frames is actually fairly low, and when I try to add height to my shots with spin, I lose a lot of the power and weight these beasts provide when driving through your shots. I have a couple of "S" Pallets in the closet that are more traditionally shaped that I may install on one of them to see if I find it more comfortable. As is, the only really comfortable way for me to use these is with a really offensive mindset and going for winners or volleys. Not really a frame I can park on the baseline and just grind away with. I can do that with my Beckers with no issue, but the c10 has more put away power than the Beckers do, so I find myself trying to end points quicker than I usually would. I also have a princeTT100p which doesn't even go in my bag anymore. It has no feel compared to the Volkl frames, so I don't even pull it out anymore. Happy new year everyone. I hope 2022 is better for everyone than 2021!

Installed an "S"pallet on one of my c10's today, feels very nice. Close to a dunlop shape. for some odd reason, it added 1/10 of an ounce so this one is now 12.7 strung, but no biggie, the weight is in the handle so it should not affect anything. I love that volkl uses a pallet system so you can mess with grips on a single frame. Playing tomorrow, hopefully to celebrate turning 61( ugh)

I also like the fact Volkl uses the pallet system. Makes it so much easier to try different grips on frames. It also makes so nice t be able to get one of their frames in any size grip to change it to the grip size you need. How many times have you wanted a different mfg older frame(s)and not been able to find the grip size you really need? I use a 5/8" grip. All I seem to find is 1/8" or mostly 3/8" grips. Way too small, so I end up not being able to find that racquet I would like two try. With Volkl, not really a problem to just buy the racquet, regardless of grip size, and change the pallet to make it into the grip size I need.
Kudos to Volkl for using this pallet system!!
