Volkl Super G: G7, V1 Midplus, V1 OS - Stiffness, Vibration Frequence

Have not seen a discussion on this. As a fan of arm friendly frames, I find the specs on these intriguing.

According to TW University, these 3 frames have the lowest vibration frequency of any tested:

http://twu.tennis-warehouse.com/cgi-bin/vibfrequency.cgi

Frame, Vibration Frequency, RDC, Weight
Volkl Super G 7 103 73 318
Volkl Super G V1 Midplus 116 67 298
Volkl Super G V1 Oversize 117 68 301

The RDC/Stiffness specs on these don't seem to indicate that they would have such low vibration frequencies. I understand RDC alone does not indicate arm-friendliness. For example, some of the stiffer Tecnifibre frames with silicone in the handle are very comfortable yet very solid feeling. That said, the Super G 7 seems to defy logic at 73 RDC. Does the Bio Sensor pin and the Super Grommet system really make that much of a difference? Does the low vibration frequency translate to arm comfort?

Among the more popular frames, the Prince 100 18x20 frames with their low vibration frequency seems to be the gold standard in comfort yet these Volkl frames have significantly lower vibration frequencies. I might have to demo these to see for myself.

I don't see too many people with these frames, anyone demo or play with these?

I know all the volkls have fibreglass but does it explain anything about the range's vibration at all?

It doesn't look right when compared to the Organix versions. The Super G is essentially the organix with the soft grommets. It seems unlikely that the grommets make such a big difference. All that said, Volkl handle technology does make a big difference, perhaps just not that big.

Grommets can make a big difference.

This does make sense... After all, Grommets are what connects the strings to the frame and any vibration must be transferred through the grommets to the frame... but still, those numbers have me scratching my head.

I'm going to post the question to the staff...

Edit... question already asked a while back... bumped the thread.

Grommet Question: I have the Organix 7 310 . Does anyone know if they have put the Super G grommets on the Organix 7 310. Note : I had an Orgainx 8 315 and the Super G gromments did not fit. The 3 and 9 holes were too small!

How does the vibration frequency number relate to elbow comfort, please?

There are some even stranger numbers with the new Burn FST:
Wilson Burn FST 99, 126, 72, 324
Wilson Burn FST 99S 131, 74, 317

I think it is another mistake like the Volkls

If TW staff told they remeasured, and the 'mistake' happened every time with Volkl SG's, I don't think it was a mistake at all.
Perhaps Volkl changed something in between so measurement of new batch stock showed another result.

Think of your hands, wrist, arm.... as a big dampener. The higher the frequency, the more the vibration will travel and hit those joints.

I don't understand this explanation TBH. Because, regardless of the speed in Hz, all these vibrations are fast enough to travel to the arm and back multiple time within a second. All will travel to the arm and joints, whether this frequency is among lower or higher. 'More' is cathegory of the amplitude, not the frequency.

I have a sensitive are... I've said this before, my game may not be able to tell the difference between difference racquet stiffness, string tension or vibration frequency... but my wrist, elbow, shoulder certainly can.

On the TW university chart, vibration frequency ranges from 119 to 198 Hz which doesn't seem like a lot but my arm tells otherwise.

Aside from a comprehensive spectrum analysis I can tell you from my experience that I "feel" the higher frequency vibration more with my sensitive elbow.... The vibration dampener on the strings hardly dampens any the low frequency stuff but right away I can feel the difference with and without.

I also think that there is a resonant frequency where the racquet "vibrates more" for a particular string/tension combination. I thought that the frame was damaged when I first experienced this.

This also applies to golf as well where softer, lower frequency, graphite shafts feel much less harsh.

Love everything about the G7 specs, and color, except the stiffness rating of 73 which scares me away.

I wouldn't let the 73RA keep you from giving it a demo, it is crisp but does not play quite as specs would suggest -- noticeably better comfort than the Organix 7 IMO. If you demo, include the SG 8 300 for comparison. Far more controlled and precise feeling racquet with just as much, if not more, spin potential as the SG7. I did not notice any difference in the sweet spot between the racquets.

I enlarge holes all the time using a drill. If the grommet would fit except the hole is too small, I just redrill the holes (that need enlarging) from the outside and the inside using the smallest bit I have. It does not take much to make the hole large enough for a grommet tube to go thru the frame. HTH

My guess is that there are unknown variables that have not been taken into account. Perhaps the tests were done with different string types or tensions.

I have a very sensitive arm, so I can feel vibrations that normal people do not feel.

I have a stash of very arm-friendly frames that do not transmit any noticeable vibration to my arm when strung with multi/sg, but as soon as I put a poly in it, I can feel the vibration traveling up my arm.

Just an idea.

Will do. Thanks.

and another thing I am trying with Volkls that have that vibration dampener/plug in the butt cap (all that sounds sort of dirty). I took the butt caps off two V1 Pros, one a Super G land the other Organix. I cannot fathom what those things do because they just seem to stick up an empty tube and appear to not even touch the sides of that tube - so what magick they are doing I'm not sure. So, I wrapped a bit of overgrip around each one so that it made contact with the inside of that tube. I want to like those V1 Pros but it isn't happening yet. I also wrapped about 8 grams of lead around the bottom of the shaft before I replaced the butt cap. I'm going to give them another try tomorrow. Right now I prefer hitting with the C10 Pro, Organix 10 or the Super G V1 MP than those V1 Pros.
