Wait until you hear De Brito SQUEAL!!!

So Michelle Larcher de Brito, at 15, has reached the 3rd round of two tier I tournaments: Miami, now Montreal. Here, she had to qualify.

She took Serena to 3 sets (I won't tell you what she did to Kuznetsova today).

She's definitely a talent, and I wanted to see her perform. Well, she's good, very good, playing a la Capriati, perhaps. She may well be a top 10 in two years, who knows.

But her SQUEALING is atrocious. What Seles started and Sharapova continued has reached in this talented tennis specimen the heights of disgrace: her squeal accompanies the ball from her racquet to the contact of the opponent (not just the exhalation), on a very high level. As the commentators here said: what Sharapova does is by comparison a whimper.

The WTA should do something about Sharapova and her (too late for the other, Seles), and the whole squealing, otherwise tennis courts will be soon nothing but a circus.

I've never actually watched her play, but by what you're mentioning I would bet that music talent agents and producers are looking into it!

While I was never really bothered by the sounds girls make during points although I wa pretty sure Sharapova's squeals are more than just a coincidence or habit ( they get especially loud during important points ), I was always asking myself - where does this end without a rule ? I know it is hard to make new rule about squeals - how do you rate what is fair and what is not ( very subjective matter ) ? Even if the issue is not that easy to force, I was always sure something had to be done.

I am very interested to hear the new girl's sounds though. I never had any doubt that sooner or later this was bound to happen.

It isn't a habit with Masha...it is pretty well known that she doesn't utter a sound in practice.

I just watched her match and my god, she has by far the worst tennis shriek I've ever heard. If they make a new Psycho film, she'd be great as the woman who gets stabbed to death in the shower. I understand that in the power of today's game, some degree of grunting may be unavoidable, but her bloodcurdling screams today were totally unnecessary. How Kuznetsova didn't complain I have no idea.

I have seen her play with Serena Williams at Bank of West Classic in Stanford. We all were thinking Serena Williams scream very loud, except for it was Michelle Larcher de Brito that would scream when she hits and then will moan down the music scale until her shot bounces on other side of the tennis court.

We were all very surprised that Serena Williams did not complain to the umpire in the chair, her screams are distracting.

You have just slammed a 15 year old girl that left her family behind at the age of 12 moved to across the atlantic to florida

Nice sob story but the truth is that she AND HER ENTIRE FAMILY moved to Florida when she was 9 to enjoy the largesse of Nick B's academy.

Not surprisingly, he's turned out another screamer who leaves him the minute she begins to make waves on tour because daddy doesn't want to share the accolades.

It does seem to be a Bollettieri thing. Both Williams, Sharapova, now Larcher de Brito.

That's about the only thing they all have in common, no?

No player is bigger than the game.

As to those who don't have respect for the above and the traditions of the game, they should go back to their burrows.

Another Insult.........

Thanks for your continouous insulting of people in your postings...You know I could report abuse to this forums moderators...but no... as I said elsewhere I am a peaceful person who hates violent actions and I will swallow again your insult and will show the other cheek as Jesus did...
What I pointed out is that you are expecting too much from a 15 year old girl, whose present and future life could be an inferno loaded with responsibility...remember she has just popped out from her childhood...
Again ,for Gods sake let her go in peace....
As oposite to you that are a hopeless piece of human sewage...

and no: she is not the hope of our nation, she is the pride!

Are there any other Portugese nationals out there who might want to step up and disassociate themselves and their country from the abusive rantings of this nasty fellow?

Why was my post deleted? It's a valid, on topic question posted to Gorecki: does he think Larcher de Brito's screams are against the rules?

Her grunting is frankly atrocious, I agree. Not only loud but too long. And it's becoming worse, I'm afraid; yesterday, it was unbereable. I hope she can tone it down before she alienates fans and opponents. Somebody should talk to her; Kuznetsova is a class act, she probably gave Michelle a word after the match.

OTH, she's just a 15 year old kid. She'll eventually learn to behave properly on court. And she's incredibly talented and a great fighter. Very spunk. The WTA can really use a player like her. We can cut her some slack for now, I think.

Go Michelle but, yeah, shut up Michelle.

Well, not really. At least I don't feel that need. Those are his opinions and (probably uncivil) rantings, and he's entitled to them.

However, I can say that, in my view, 95% of the Portuguese don't really care about Brito. A large majority of them don't even know for sure who she is, anyway. The "hopes of a nation on her shoulders" was a mere poetic exaggeration, I think.

Dear Goreki.........

Dear Goreki:
Since I was a child I learnt to respect any nationality and the characteristics of every human being in this planet...My parents taught me that all human being is respectable, and the same to all nations in the world.
On the other side I'm not diminishing Michelle's values,on the contrary I'm just trying to protect her (SHE IS A CHILD OF 15 YEARS) from adult inmoderate ambition of transforming her into a tennis machine, perfect and without any flaws, and neglecting her her right to live as a 15 year old ought to live...
So you are mixing things up and you make a confusion between protection and insult...
GOD SAVE YOUR SOUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wait until you hear De Brito SQUEAL.

This is just the beginning of the second generation from the Bollettieri Academy that grew up idolizing the likes of Capriotti, Sharapova and all the screamers of their generation. It's what we all feared would happen. The days of enjoying a classic, grinding WTA tennis match WITHOUT the shrieks are over. Just pretend your watching the Outdoor Channel and bowhunters are hunting feral pigs in the swamps.
