That 2018 looks great - man, I'd sign up for that. 2017 also looks amazing but that goes without saying 'cause Fed.

Not that I think it'll happen but would it be so bad if he did? It's not like he's gonna come close to Federer's records now anyway.
You don't seem to be enjoying tennis that much right now, ain't that true?
I am enjoying it quite a bit extra because of Fed's renaissance. Not being a fan of Novak, why would I wish for him to return to winning every single GS and more or less every single Masters? That's plain boring to me. And most of the time, especially in the first half of 2016, I didn't even feel he needed to play his best to win. He would just stay solid and let the opponents kill themselves by being a wall - and then up his level whenever he needed it. Again, that's certainly not on my wishlist. I like his play when he plays like he did vs. Fed in the AO semi 2016 and vs. Rafa in Doha that same year (and multiple other times, he's always aggressive vs. Rafa). But I really don't like his play when he just suffocates the opponent with good depth and immaculate defense.

And quite frankly, I cannot understand why you fail to understand that fans of other players wouldn't want Novak to win every important title for a year and a half.
That being said, I'm not at all surprised you asked, cause you want everybody to like/love Novak and when we don't want him to dominate, it boggles your mind time and time again.
And not that it matters all that much, but yes - Novak can still get to or get close to Fed's record if he came back to his 2015 form for a couple of years. The young guns are still not ready to take over and Fedal won't play on this level for 2-3 more years. In other words -> still an easy era to dominate:D;)
LOL. Talk about being direct and straight to the point. :D I could see some being mad about the '15 USO loss. That was the one where he was closest and had so many chances, but the Wimbledon losses are where he actually could have lost both of those matches in straight sets. Djokovic had set points in every set so he was in control most of the time and there's no need to bring up the AO match. He could play that match 10 times and there was no way he was beating Djokovic that day.
US Open 2015 is the worst of the 3 for me, needless to say. W 2015 Novak was just plain better and Fed couldn't bring his semifinal level to the match, partly because of Djoko of course. Don't have any bad feelings from that one apart from seeing Fed get demolished at Wimbledon ;-)
W 2014 Djoko was still better but Fed had his chances too. Didn't he have a breakpoint up 4-3 in the 5th or thereabouts?
That 2018 looks great - man, I'd sign up for that. 2017 also looks amazing but that goes without saying 'cause Fed.
Me too, me too!

I hope to see more matches from Fed. Coz his matches are so entertaining to watch. I hope to see more serve and volley and single hand back hands in the men AND women's pro circuit. I wish to see more players other than Serena winning the slam finals.

I wish to see a different winner on each and every one of 2018's slam finals.

I would like Djokovic to return to his best. If he gets back to even close to his best level it is crazy to think he could rack up 8 or 9 Australian Open titles before retirement. Having said that, before he returns to winning his pet slam I would love to see Rafa win a second AO.

My 2018 wishlist is AO & RG for Rafa and then peak Djoker can return and win cracking finals at Wimbledon and US Open.

For Federer to continue winning majors, to partially compensate for the choked matches of the 2009 USO, 2010/11 USO semis, Wimbledon 2014 and USO 2015. He's got three more slams to go to rectify these 5 hideous losses. Two down already.
Sorry, but USO 2009 wasn't a choke. Del Potro played the best match of his life and deserved to win.

Agreed. Making excuses for that match is lame.
Fed was healthy and Delpo played extremely well. As a Fed fan the loss hurts but it was a fully deserved win for Del Potro.

Zverev to win Australian Open.
Thiem to win Roland Garros.
Federer to win Wimbledon.
Kyrgios to win US Open.

That will be interesting.

Here is what I want.

Federer, the GOAT, to win his 20th and 21st slams - then smugly proclaim that tennis is getting easier for him the older he becomes.

Nadal to win yet another Roland Garros crown. Parisians decide to replace the Eiffel Tower with a similarly-sized statue of Rafa.

Novak Djokovic to disappear from tennis and become a Buddhist monk.

Sir Murray to win his third Wimbledon title, thus equalling the great Frederick Perry.

Stan the Man to marry Vekic.

Kyrgios to be best man at the above wedding.

Stepanek to date Muguruza.

Serena to win her 24th and 25th slams, and Court to present her the trophy for the latter, while carrying a Gay Pride flag.

Sharapova to be busted for snorting cocaine off Gasquet's stomach.

Raonic to just go away.

So be it.

That might have been prophetic in 1967 ;)

"a tour pro will win a title at some point"

(somehow the universe will find a way to ruin that prediction for him too...Yellowstone erupts and an asteroid the size of Brussels hits the earth before it can be fulfilled. :D poor Melly :p)

Speaking of which, I think even if Thiem were born that year, @Meles would still have high hopes about him being a future ATG. ;)

"Just gotta channel Servebotterer, also must improve that second serve return on clay. Look for Thiemerer to make a big statement in his mid-50s" :D

LOL sorry

I didn't know that was such a bad thing to say.

its not as if that user didn't feel some type of way every time novak and fed were equal in their h2h and novak had the chance to go ahead. the hypocrisy is amazing. also idk if it's teh word "revenge" that sets certain people off, but really what fan doesn't want their fav to get the best of their rivals. like its really stupid to think other wise and this has nothing to do with oh you guys are just upset that novak had the nerve to beat fed. like um no its called as a fan you obviously want your favorite to beat his best competitors, is that a bad thing? some people are showing their complex again as usual.

health for all players obviously. fed to continue playing well, i'd like for him to defend wimbledon. tbh i don't necessarily fancy his chances to defend AO next year. also I really would like fed to win one more in new york, i can't believe, as someone said, he last won the USO before he won his FO. so weird.

I've never been the biggest murray fan but he's kind of growing on me and everyone keeps saying they are tired of big 4 winning but tbh i feel like murray could always close that gap between him and the other big 3.

and this obviously goes w/o saying but new blood and consistent new blood. we've obviously had matches here and there with the young generation beating the older generation but obviously not consistently. even if its not slams, a few masters won by zverev and the like would be great.

yup. glad del potro got it at the end though. i realize looking back, it gave fed chances to hold all 4 slams since he won AO the next year, but at the end of the day i like that del potro(here's hoping maybe he can win another) got his first slam. del potro's emotions when he won his first slam just completely erased any sad feelings i had for fed losing that match. i was definitely frustrated at certain parts when he was ahead, but overall happy for del potro

Good post. Yeah, maybe the word "revenge" wasn't the best choice, but it's not wrong to wish that my favorite player beats one of his rivals again in a big match. ;)

I mean how dare I wish for Fed to beat Djokovic in a slam. The blasphemy!!!

lol i have no issues with getting revenge in context of sports. like not we are advocating for actual revenge. all it is is wanting player x to defeat player y. as if any other fanbase wouldn't be salivating at the idea of wanting their fav to do the same.

Here's mine and yes, in that order as well:
  • Murray and Djokovic to return in full form, completely fit, healthy and highly motivated
  • End of Fedal (we've had enough)
  • A more balanced and healthy competition all year around particularly in Majors and Masters
  • Young generation to step up in full force and take over Fedal half as they should
  • Cilic, Tsonga, Berdych, Raonic, Nishikori etc. and whoever I am forgetting to be injury free and back to form

I think Fed would have got his revenge against Djokovic at this year's Wimb. It's a shame Novak got injured.

Now the bold version.

Novak to win 2 fake Slams, one of them being the US Open, and the Real Slam.

Murray to bounce back and play at a high level again.

Nadal and Federer to return to what they were in 2014-16 (minus the injuries).

MILOS and Kei to win a Masters.

Svitolina to win Roland Garros.

Sharapova, Halep and Serena to win the other three Slams. Wouldn't mind Kvitova instead of one of them.

Ostapenko and Kasatkina to keep rising in the rankings.

USO 2010/2011 in a way were big chokes. Credit to Novak for sticking to his guns, but Fed should have never even got to those situations. Especially in 2011 when he was up 2 sets to none.

hmm i'll have to rewatch, i remember fed having mps in one of them, but i think it was a combination of stellar play b/c i remember novak hitting some good shots to fend of either mps or bps. def agree fed i think sort of mentally stepped back so to speak

In 2011, Novak had an incredible return to save one of the MP's. But the second one was a miss by Fed. So it wasn't 100% Novak's own escape act.

2011 was a weird season for Fed. He lost 2 sets to none leads in consecutive slams. Credit to Djokovic, but Fed shouldn't have dropped his level in sets 3 and 4. Same for the Tsonga match at Wimb too.

Improved match quality.
  • I want Djokovic to resume his rivalry with Federer before he hangs the racquet for good. The Djokovic-Federer rivalry has always been entertaining, so many quality matches over the years on all surfaces. I would even go on to say it's sometimes more entertaining than Federer-Nadal.
  • Would really like to see a few new chapters in the Nadal/Djokovic rivalry.
  • Djokovic and Murray finally shaking off the slump/injuries and going back to being top contenders.
  • Wawrinka to unleash the "Stanimal" a few more times and get some redemption for his lackluster FO final.
  • Kyrgios to finally be motivated and to stay fit.
  • Dimitrov to win something greater than a 500.
  • For the young generation to step up to the plate and accomplish something worth remembering.
  • For some players to stop *laying down* for Federer....*cough*...Wawrinka...Dimitrov
  • Last but not least, Raonic retiring ;) (I know I'm terrible!)

oh god that tsonga match, even though i love seeing tsonga play and imo he should have better results in general, is part of the reason why I'm still nervous even when is up two sets to love at slams. most others mock me, but i'm like do you not remember how many times fed lost while being ahead?!

AO - Djokovic

I really want Djokovic to come back even though I don't like his playstyle. I used to hate him, but now I just feel bad for him because of his loss of form, and because of how unpopular he is. It would be interesting for Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic to all dominate a slam, and 7 AOs would really do it.

RG - Thiem

First of all, I don't want Nadal to win another slam :D. Also, I love watching Thiem when he's "on". It would be nice for the new gen to break through and it would be dope if Thiem could do it. I also want him to beat Nadal on his run as a kind of "passing of the torch" moment.

Wimbledon - Federer

I'm a Fed fan, what can I say? I'm greedy. :p (A second choice is Cilic because I feel bad for him)

US Open - Wawrinka, or New Gen

I really don't want the Nadal or Djokovic to win this because that would compete with Fed's legacy. I really like Wawrinka, so I want him to win something. I also want New Gen to break through but I don't see who will. (At least at the US Open).

I don't care too much about the masters, as long as there is good tennis played. :)

i wish people would realize stan/fed on hcs will always be a match up issue. i dont count coming back from two sets to down laying down or beating him in, iirc, straight sets at rg. but ofcourse fed only wins b/c people play down.

2011 completely convinced me that a match isn't over until the last ball is being struck.

Fed has steadied the ship since then though. I don't see him dropping 2 sets to love leads anymore. He seems more mentally stable than in 2011.

I agree 2011 was a weird season, would even throw 2010 in there. Don't know if it was due to Annacone joining the Federer team, but he had weird results during the majority of these 2 years. He somewhat redeemed himself when he swoop the 2011 indoor swing and his fantastic first half of 2012 though, but not going deeper than the QF at Wimbledon 2 years in a row was definitely disappointing. The SF USO match with Novak, well these are what they are. Fed should've closed it out, but he choked and Djokovic seized the opportunities.

Since it's doubtful Djokovic will ever be in 2015-2016 mode ever again, there will probably be an even playing field between him and Federer. I don't feel like Federer needs to avoid Djokovic completely, just get a weaker version of him, not the absolute best.
