What is most DURABLE non-poly/non-kevlar string

Need to stick with non-poly string for my aging arm. Dont want to develop tennis elbow again. Problem is I break strings quickly. For example, the babolat x-cell lasted me about 4-5 hours. So....

What is the most durable non-poly string?

I have not played with it until breakage but Head RIP Control 16 seems very strong.

mikeler, how long do you leave RIP Control in before restringing? I just got a stringer and will change it more often as I tended to play it until it felt dry and brittle and had quite a bit of fraying.

15g syn gut or nylon. Multis don't have good durability in general.

You can try a 15g nylon/syn gut, but 15g synthetic strings are less durable than an 18g poly, and those don't have much longevity to them to begin with. Best bet for durability would be a poly main and a multi/gut cross if your arm can swing it. Alu Power/Prince Lightning was a VERY soft setup for me the one time I used it.

I'm just speculating here, reading between the lines. If money is a concern for you because you have a tennis shop restring for you, then you might want to invest in a stringing machine.

Dunlop Hexy Fiber 16g is a very durable multi that's worth a try for you. It's low powered, so string it 2 lb. lower than your usual multi tension. And as a bonus it's only $6.95 per set. Dunlop brands it for comfort and spin.

i've played both of these to breakage several times. i think x-1 lasts longer, but not by much. i do prefer x-1 over rip control, but that's not saying much. x-1 changed faces too much every time it hit it, rip control was decent but the movement was too much.

RIP Control lasted me at least twice as long as X-1.

Depends on the string. Multis can be very, very easily breakable. I have a feeling some of these recs are coming from non-string breakers

Although 15L Tourney nylon can actually last quite a long time, depending on what type of string breaker you are.

TBH, 4-5 hours on X-cel ain't too bad...

Many players are often surprised by the durability (and playability throughout the life of the string!) of NG. Obviously you want to avoid extreme conditions like temperature and water, and there may be some upkeep (if you want, like string savers, and clipping off danglies).

Thanks for confirming this, I have a racquet strung 10 months ago with klip NG, although it is not used as much as my others, it still plays as good or better than the day i strung it.

I play at a 4.0/4.5 level and hit with lots of spin and power. I went through babolat x-cel in about 5 hours and technifibre x-one biphase in about 6 hours before breaking both.

^^^ indeed. Side by side, Pacific tough was more durable than VS gut. It may not play as velvety as VS, but is a very quality gut for sure.
