What is your favorite upset in a Major

Players like Blake, Youzhny and Berdych used to give Nadal a lot of trouble on hardcourts because of their hard, flat hitting.

The way he returned Sod's shots at the French gives me hope. Those shots were coming at him like rockets and he deflected them. Even Sod was shaking his head at that one. And now, he's hitting hard and flat too? Woohoo! Gotta love his insistence on improving. Rafa's the man!

Not sure why, but I figured this post would only get a few comments today.
Maybe around 15 or so but I guess people like to see the underdog pull one out.
I know I feel that way.

I am also surprised I have not seen anything on the womens side.
Tsvetana Pironkova’s 6-2, 6-3 upset over five-time Wimbledon champion and No. 2 seed Venus Williams was very big.

Yes, Nadal was hitting much flatter and deeper over the last few months than what he did before. It certainly helped him against Soderling.

Federer injured? In his mind you mean?

Well LeoR told me I was a "hater" for saying my favourite upset was Nadal-Soderling French Open 2009, as Nadal was injured.

So I would hope they will hold you to the same moral standard. :p

(I have no problem with you saying Fed-Berdych was your favourite upset. It's perfectly fair of you. My issue was with LeoR really... :) )

Boy, the mind gets fuzzy. I thought I was hallucinating. Blake at the YEC? Direct entry, or alternate, lol. No, that must've been the year he got to 4 in the world. But, it seems his descent was as meteoric as his rise.

Blake was a top 15 player for 3 years (2006-2008 ) and top 10 for 2 of those 3 years.

Why should Federer feel compelled to inform the world of MRI results?
Why not? Don't his millions of fans want to know? With his degree of fame, you get injured, you publish a public release. If you don't, you were never injured, period.

Well he said he was injured after Wimbledon... if that didn't convince you, why would you trust a public release about an MRI?

He could just as easily lie in that, as you must obviously assume he was lying in the Wimbledon press conference.

We don't need to see MRI b/c we believe in him. He doesn't lie like Nadal taking MTO to throw off player's rythm and then running like a jack rabbit. Roger injured...he play bad. Rafa claimed injured...he play better. Go figure!

Maybe Rafa is actually a man and can put up with pain. Roger just cries.

Look, there's no sign of rafa's pain or slowing down at SW19. Roger doesn't cry and he played through his injury. e.g. played to bitter end during 2008 AO, 2005 Master Cup.

It's not Fed that would publish the results, it's the medical authorites. Of course, they can only speak up if they were consulted in the first place...

Fed losing to Berdych at his best slam(Wimbledon won it 6 times) was too funny. Since Berdych was his pigeon.

You think the medical authorities should just be allowed to publish their patient's results? I think there's a thing called confidentiality...

Of course Federer could ask them to release a statement, but then he might as well just make the statement himself.

1. The Del Po-Fed match USO wasn't five sets? It sure seemed long to me.

2. The oddsmakers? I thought Fed was the automatic favorite going into Wimbledon in years past? But the way it was going, with all the delays it was hard to believe Nadal was going to be able to overcome all the disappointments, so that's what made it seem like an upset.

Are you stupid? No one said it didn't go to five sets. You are attacking a fabricated argument. You said that it was a "trashing." You were/are wrong.

Forum logic: Nadal takes MTO and then wins = faker, trying to throw off opponent's rhythm, gamesmanship etc

Mathieu, Petz, Soderling take MTO's and still get rolled = legit timeouts, not a single discussion about that

The hate is amusing.

Logical answer: remove MTO's from the game. Suck it up or forfeit.

Federer-Sampras at Wimbledon 2003. The beginning of the modern era.

Soderling-Nadal was just odd, that story ended right there.

Soderling-Nadal....my favourite since it was like the aura of invincibility was smashed that day! You finally see Nadal is human and can falter. Still great that he came back for his crown!

You sir, are rude! No response needed for someone so sorely lacking in the abiility to communicate effectively, lol!
