Once upon a time in America (1984)
Watched it before but this time it was the extended version. 4 h and 11mn is very long, watched it in 2 days though. Good movie although I prefer Once upon a time in the West.

BB was good entertainment. You can suspend your disbelief for the required time. There are some subtle things that you should look out for. Like SK, a Muslim, playing a Hindu Brahmin, who goes to his uncle's home in Delhi and smells meat and gets upset that it is because of the Muslim family renting part of the home and cooking meat, and his uncle saying that is why you should never rent to Muslims. There is double irony here. Or a Muslim in Pakistan asking why SK, a HIndu from India, would care about a Muslim girl.

Just saw the latest Woody Allen movie, Irrational Man. It was barely OK, despite great actors. Like an intro philosophy class- Angst 101. A rehash of themes he has covered before- transparent plot- nothing new.

I saw it a couple of weeks go, and I liked it. Good action sequences.

Anyone else going to Enchanted Kingdom? This will be the first movie I've seen in a theatre in 10 years or more. It's being shown tonight (Monday) and tomorrow.

"Scanners" (1981).
Early Kronenberg film, notorious by the early gruesome scene. It's a good movie, but it has aged quite a bit.
You get to have a look at Jennifer O'Neil though.

The funny thing is I've never seen 1 and 2, but love 3 and 4
will be watching 5.They mention that movie in the Nightmare on Elm street documentary that came out a few years ago. They got some inspiration from it.

Yes, I completely agree, although I don't think it jumped the shark that badly. It could have developed there though. I think it lacks a bit of most everything (plot and character development, suspense, etc).
Around the time I watched Sunshine, I watched Moon. This is another scifi movie, and this one is hard to complain about. It's not your typical action scifi movie, but more of a drama/comedy movie that will make you think. A little like 2001 a Space Odyssey meets Seinfeld.

i did see that a few years back 2013 and now that you mention it, yes i do recall a rather surprising ending.

But i saw sunshine in the middle of about 15 or so scifi movies (thirteenth floor, time traveler's wife, 12 monkeys, equilibrium, limitless, the island, deja vu, fire in the sky, the fountain, primer, stargate, the man from the earth, silent running, dark city, the butterfly effect ...

Thank you. I will need to watch some of the movies you list there. I haven't seen Time Traveler's Wife, Deja Vu, Fire in the Sky, The Fountain, or The Butterfly Effect.

Check their summaries and reviews. I did not care for Fire in the Sky although someone else here seems to have liked it. My comment against The Fountain says "so-so". Deja-vu was a thriller, but still interesting IIRC, can't say how you will react. I am not promising that these were great. You might try Primer which was very sciency.

That's fine, thanks Sentinel. I already watched Primer. It was good, but it was a little cerebral and requires further viewings. Carruth's second movie (Upstream Color) is really weird as well, but different in theme.

Ant-Man. Enjoyed it. Better than AOU, which was good but disappointing.
Inside-Out. Don't quite get the hype for this. Still a good film (as are most Pixar) but not in the same class as their best stuff.

Yes,I agree. The level of acclaim it is getting is slightly baffling

Yes, it is like a huge allegory full of symbolism. I interpreted it as a religious movie, but there were all sort of crazy interpretations.
The movie got my attention because it was from the director of primer, and also because I have the camera that was used to shoot that full movie (you can buy that camera now for $300 to $400 in like-new condition.

Cloud Atlas. Read the novel a few years back and was extremely surprised that they made a film adaptation of it. Didn't think it would be that well done, but I was pretty good. The credits showing the actors and all the characters they played were cool to see too. Didn't notice a few until then.

That's funny. I started it a couple years back. It was late at night, and i had had a tiring run that evening, so could not focus much. I left it after 20 minutes, too. My b-i-l said it was an excellent movie. So it's still there on my long list of films to watch.

Best of Enemies (documentary about the Buckley/Vidal debates).
One of my favourite documentaries, though I'm fascinated by America during this era so that made it even better for me. If you like your politics/US history/nostalgia you'll like this.

Destry Rides Again (1939 ) - James Stewart, Marlene Dietrich. Western, so-so.
Some nice songs sung by MD. A bunch of mobsters run this little town. Kill the sheriff. Appoint the town drunk as the new sheriff. Then James Stewart comes in as the deputy and tried to restore law and order....

Guy Ritchie directed, so it's stylish (too much so, with some action sequences losing impact with the screen split into about 5 simultaneous views), but the tone kills it, with dumb "buddy film" banter that diminishes any sense of actual danger and creates a "thriller" with no thrills.

Just saw Shaun the Sheep. Even though it was s string of cliches, it had a couple very funny moments. I did start to fall asleep a couple times, but I blame that on all the sheep.

Sentinel, if you like to have and have not(or maybe even moreso if you didn't) you should check out The Breaking Point starring John Garfield. It was an adaptation of the same novel, but more faithful. I think it's pretty great.

Very interesting film. Does not seem to be historically accurate, based on a play. Narrated by Salieri who claims to be responsible for Mozart's death. The movie shows Mozart dying in the morning after his wife returns from Salzburg, whereas I read that his wife nursed him through his illness and he died at 1 am, not after sunrise. Film paints Salieri in a bad light.

Thanks a lot. Strangely, I don't seem to have heard of this. I like John Garfield. Remember him from The Postman knocks... and Gentleman's Agreement. I also have Four Daughters but have not yet seen it since i don't have subtitles for it.
