Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy

Saw Django Unchained the other day. Nice but way too much needless killing in the end. Maybe that;s how it was back then ?

Really enjoyed Life of Pi. It was very intriguing and emotional, now I don't normally cry, but I couldn't help myself with this one.

I read the book and thought they stuck to the plot well, it was very much how I imagined it while reading. Great effects too. A++ VERY NICE VERY NICE!

I enjoyed it too but funny how the tiger's size kept changing in each scene and even though he's supposed to be full grown, he's still tiny. Realized it was a computer generated image. The main actor studies in a college in my city and ran into some problems for the time he took off. He had to carry his homework with him on location, and I believe submit a written apology or something. Can't remember the details but the college was quite stern and unhappy about it.

Intouchables (French) -- liked it, touching -- the critics seem to have flayed it, frustrated chaps :)

Reminded me of Rainman.

Dead Man Down

Colin Farrell in yet another dark gangster film with a romantic subplot. Average for this genre, Farrell improves everything he touches.

I agree with the tiger part, but I also was impressed with how real it looked in some scenes (despite the size issue). I was wondering though, do you live in India? I think I saw one of your posts saying you grew up there, but do you live there now?

I actually "live" in the matrix. But yeah, for you guys, India it is !

Great movie with a short chopped ending.

Lawless.

With Mardy Fish playing Howard, and Nadal playing the indestructible Forrest. I think Gulbis was playing Jack but not sure. Nole was the Special Deputy guy, Rake.

Once upon a time in Anatolia.

The movie really began for me after it was over ... the last scene made me ponder whether there were relationship between suspect and victim's wife, was the victim's wife the proecutor's daughter, who was the pretty girl in the village etc etc

^ Is this the Spielberg remake or the 1930 original ?

Saw Hitchcock. Loved the way Hopkins talks ... with his mouth wide open :)

I've always loved Mike Birbiglia's comedy so I was pretty biased to liking this movie before watching. I guess I'd call it him telling his story, which he does in his typically hilariously skewed way.

^ Darn. I did not know the reference was to Plan 9 from outer space. And (as an aside) all this while I wondered why they named that operating system Plan 9. So it was after this movie ???

Really? As far as horror movies go, I loved it. Went more for creating a creepy atmosphere than the sudden "jump" scares.

Yeah, I hate those sudden jump scares -- i was looking for a word for them, they are so overused by people to frighten the audience.

It's Stanley Kubrick. This film, from a technical standpoint, was sublime. Absolutely gorgeous photography.

Yeah, but Sk did not seem to develop the kid at all. All he does is summon the cook who dies immediately on enterign the hotel. That's it.

Jack gives everything away in the start with his expressions and words. All the movie is about eventually is the : guy going around with an axe, some dead bodies coming to life that's it. Too trite.

If a ghost could have opened a pantry door for him, surely it could have helped him get out of that maze or stopped the ice-truck.

The film ends suddenly with the couple escaping -- i expected the evil powers to give some fight. But mostly the kid's character and powers are just not developed other than that inside voice talking which was just silly.

The other day I saw another classic, Vertigo, and was quite let down. It ended so conveniently -- all of a sudden the girl just falls down and dies and that's it.

I guess you guys understand movies and analyze them from a more technical standpoint. I look more at the story and am usually sickened by too much violence or sex. e.g. i was seeing Django Unchained recently and rather liked it, but the end seemed to have these guys going around shooting rather indiscriminately like kids with toy pistols.

^ I agree about its narrative; pacing was off and it definitely isn't one of Kubrick's better films (Eyes Wide Shut, 2001, Paths of Glory, A Clockwork Orange, Barry Lyndon, Lolita and Dr. Strangelove are much better). But it's so well-made, from a technical standpoint.

Have you heard about the loony conspiracy theories about the film?

The Sapphires

"Dreamgirls" meets "M*A*S*H" meets "Croccodile Dundee." Four aborigine women form a soulful singing group and head for Vietnam to entertain the troops, circa 1968. Entanglements ensue. An entertaining date film, with a message about racism.

Which one is supposed to be the BEST movie of this summer 2013 ? A lot more Sci fi movies this summer than in the past.

This Tom Cruise movie, Oblivion being released earlier than I thought for summer. Wonder why ?

Man of Steel has potential. Synder seems to be going down the naturalistic, Terrence Malickish road as opposed to the gloom Chris Nolan has been forking out.

What theories about The SHining ? I did glance through the wikipedia entry--- ohoho -- just checked google. Faked moon landings ! Wow !

Yeah, actually Room 237 represents Europa. Remember 2001 where mankind is told not to go to Europa. The young kid represents mankind keen on exploring.
