Really? As far as horror movies go, I loved it. Went more for creating a creepy atmosphere than the sudden "jump" scares.
Yeah, I hate those sudden jump scares -- i was looking for a word for them, they are so overused by people to frighten the audience.
It's Stanley Kubrick. This film, from a technical standpoint, was sublime. Absolutely gorgeous photography.
Yeah, but Sk did not seem to develop the kid at all. All he does is summon the cook who dies immediately on enterign the hotel. That's it.
Jack gives everything away in the start with his expressions and words. All the movie is about eventually is the : guy going around with an axe, some dead bodies coming to life that's it. Too trite.
If a ghost could have opened a pantry door for him, surely it could have helped him get out of that maze or stopped the ice-truck.
The film ends suddenly with the couple escaping -- i expected the evil powers to give some fight. But mostly the kid's character and powers are just not developed other than that inside voice talking which was just silly.
The other day I saw another classic, Vertigo, and was quite let down. It ended so conveniently -- all of a sudden the girl just falls down and dies and that's it.
I guess you guys understand movies and analyze them from a more technical standpoint. I look more at the story and am usually sickened by too much violence or sex. e.g. i was seeing Django Unchained recently and rather liked it, but the end seemed to have these guys going around shooting rather indiscriminately like kids with toy pistols.
