When Does Nole Fire Becker

The positivity that exudes from certain posters on this forum never ceases to bring a smile to my face. Always a pleasure to see.

well RG is a tough proposition for Nole right now but Wimbledon is another story.

I wonder if becker will ask Nole attack far more than he ever has at Wimbledon.

not really sure when Becker is let go but he is going to be let go. why pay that guy the big bucks for weaker results.

Nole had absolutely no business losing in Melbourne. he had won 28 matches in a row and he was pretty much hitting his stride.

I don't know what Becker can teach him as far as clay is concerned. Becker was never able to win a single clay event while on the atp circuit.

he had to wait until he was playing senior tennis somewhere before he finally won a clay event. Becker was a total failure on clay.

Because it wasn't like Stan was in god mode or anything.

(I actually haven't seen the phrase "god mode" around in a while; what happened to it?)

Is that true that that Becker never won a single tournament on clay DM? For a player of his capabilities that seems amazing to me.

affirmative general.

he came very close at monte carlo against the great Thomas Muster but no cigar.

Muster came from behind to take it in 5 sets.

Becker walked away a loser and barking, crying, and whining about how Muster had to have been doping and stuff.

So he only ever reached the 1 final on clay? Well you learn something new every day I guess.

Becker might be already out at least for the coming hard court and clay swing. Vajda has the coaching duties as of now.

He wasn't. Stan choked the 1st and 4th sets to Novak. It was one of the worst matches I had ever seen Djokovic play.

I have no idea why he hired Becker. Does anyone know how much Novak's paying him?

becker was a great player no doubt but it is just not that easy to win big titles on clay.

in becker's case, evidently he could not win even a small one on clay.

we may have to look and see which small ones he competed in.

becker really cant do anything for Nole.

becker also has too many other interests and businesses that he has to stay involved in.

he said he hired becker way back in oct the week that nadal became no1 so he made his decision before his long streak, but i guess they didnt start practicing together until this year?

some facts about beckers clay court achievements. i do this, because in this forum it sounds like boris couldnt hit a ball on clay.

-becker reached finals in all super9 clay events (now masters 1000). he reached monte carlo final 3 times (lost to bruguera, mancini and muster in very tight matches), hamburg (lost to aguilera 160667), rome (lost to sampras 162626)
-becker reached an additional final in gstaad
-becker reached sf at roland garros 3 times and qf once
-it is true that boris never won a singles atp tournament on clay, but that doesnt mean that he didnt lift a trophy after a sundays final: he won the davis cup in 1988 in sweden on clay. he totally crushed edberg in singles and with eric jelen world no1 in doubles edberg/jarryd. in 1989 becker won the world team cup with the german team, which is an official atp event. in that tournament he won all 4 singles matches vs top10 players mayotte and hlasek and vs clay court experts j. sanchez and perez-roldan.
-becker has noteable wins vs rg champions muster and chang on clay and also wins over players like rios, corretja, e. sanchez, vilas et al.

i dont want to say that becker was a great clay courter, of course it was his weakest surface. but nobody should think a match vs becker was a walkover.

He should have won 1995 Monte Carlo. In the final against the master claycourter, Thomas Muster, he had several match points in the 4th set tie-breaker but couldn't convert any. He then got bagelled in the 5th set!

we may have that match at Camelot tennis video center. I think I will look tonight.

I have yet to see that match. I also need to watch muster vs chang 1995 RG final.

Nole looked alright to me at the Australian. I assume he will keep Becker at least until the end of the year. His level hasn't really dropped off that much over the last year. You can't expect him remain at 2011 level

Guess he had no heart in that one.
