It seems pretty clear at this stage Djokovic is the strong favorite to win RG, with Nadal and Thiem a very distant 2nd and 3rd (not even sure which is 2nd, and which is 3rd at this point). Who has the best shot of beating Djokovic in a head to head match at RG and taking him out though.

Pretty clear to random TT poster with 12 messages who puts VAMOS “a very distant 2nd,” possibly 3rd. :D

Not so clear to the people who make their living setting the odds who have VAMOS the favorite.

Who should I go with ?

Please don't confuse Madrid with RG!

Djokovic or other HC type players will not be able to play their HC kind of game at RG so easily, unless the weather is ridiculously cold and damp, and even then it will not be a fast court the way Madrid is...

A peak/prime Wawrinka. Solid off both wings off the baseline with relentness depth and pace. This version of Wawrinka is the only player who can get inside Djokovic's head and make him despair. When Fed and Rafa were beating Nole, he took it in stride because of their GOATness. When it was Wawrinka, you could see his eyes say "how is this possible"?

It has been a while since pretty much the only one who can beat Djokovic is himself, mostly by not playing to win. That makes the player who wins against him gain less from the victory and is yet another mind game Djokovic has been 'practising' lately, although not intentionally.

Other than that, Nadal and Thiem are those who can beat determined Djokovic on his bad clay day, but in BO5 it is Nadal only, playing at WC18 SF level, both physically and mentally. Now let's see if Nadal can get there in time for RG19 (finals). Neither sport nor business needs another AO19.

i think djokovic will lose to nadal, or djokovic will beat thiem, or thiem will beat nadal at this year's FO. if the finals is djok -thiem, djok wins. djok- nadal, nadal wins. thiem- nadal, theim wins. thiem has always struggled against djokovic, even on clay, however he plays really well against nadal.

It also says a lot that he includes Zverev in the poll, but not Federer. While I have no problem as a Federer fan to admit that Djokovic would be the favourite against Federer if they meet, Zverev’s chance to even meet Djokovic is non-existent, let alone beat him.

cant wait for RG to finally get the answer.
But I am putting my money on Djokovic to win it. If there will be fire in his eyes then he is just too good, even for Nadal. :\

Still Thiem.

Don't get fooled by his 7-6 7-6 loss, it was a very close match that could've gone either way. He was up in both sets and simply gave it away. He'll learn from his mistakes.

As good as Djokovic is he's still 32 years old, Thiem is 25/26. If it's a 5-set match Djokovic will definitely feel it, this ain't no Fed at Wimbledon who can keep serving aces, Djokovic will have to win rallies.

When you lose an important match to somebody in a close competition, you tend to come back stronger next time. Unless youre too outmatched, theres a pretty good chance you can obsess over it, then beat that person next time.

Interesting data but don't take it too seriously. Both Djokovic and Federer won Madrid before they won RG. Kinda funny :)

true, but Nadal's level has not been this low since 2015.

he's better than 2015, but not by a whole lot.

I'm tempted to say Thiem at the moment he had a very close match 7-6 7-6 loss to djoker a match I thought thiem wasn't playing his best tennis He was making 50-55% when he served 60-65% in previous matches, with a higher first serve percentage and a little bit of composure He could have won Djoker. With that being said I can never right off Nadal on the Red dirt so I say Nadal has the best Chance
