I am very curious. Some of the posters seem to be affiliated with the pro tours. Others seem to be recreational players who follow one or both tours fairly closely (like me). Others may be pro or college players themselves. I've made a poll. Thanks in advance for participating! If there is a category I left out, please let me know.

ATP CEO. :)

(in reality a very poor recreational tennis player, but a modest fan of the sport. Truth be known, I much preferred playing squash, but had a wrist injury so that was that.)

(and, in reality, a senior manager of a company that has absolutely nothing to do with tennis, which doesn't leave me much time to watch it and an excuse not to play it often enough! Those are my excuses and I am sticking to them!)

Thanks for that input, gogo. I hope you can find time to get out and play more, eventually.

I added "teaching pro" as it occurred to me that might be another slice of participant.

By the way, I love squash too, but the only place near me that has leagues is too expensive for me. I wish it was a bigger sport in the US.

If there was a poll option for "Most enthusiastic and good-natured poster" that would be the option for you :D. I enjoy your cheeriness and the updates about the teen scene, thanks!

Your poll misses the suresh option.

Why is this in Match Results section ?

I don't get the reference to the suresh option. Sorry. :(

In answer to your question, there didn't seem to be a good place to put my question, so I put it where most people post about recent results. Those are the people I'm interested in knowing about. If the moderators want to move it, that is ok.

You must learn about the legend that is sureshs, there are some key threads to get an idea of him (maybe someone could post them, I don't remember the exact titles). In the meantime, he has been captured on film plying his trade.

Where's the poll option for "armchair sports expert know-it-all"?
We used to have some good coaches here like @tricky. There was also one @Bungalo Bill.
These good professionals and other knowledgable poasters got driven away by the fanboi trolls who only wanted to project their favorite player as the GOAT, and run everyone else down.
This became a fanboi forum, so that's basically the profile of people here.

I believe a few people here actually play a bit of tennis, and some of those few actually manage to take the ball on first bounce.

Can you quantify how many here have to wait for the ball to come down into their swing zone from the apex of the bounce verses those who can
taken the ball on the rise? The percentages might be quit enlightening.

Now, if their waiting for the ball to bounce twice that remind me of old Virginia Slims women tennis. Even women of that year took the ball on
the first bounce. However, it was quit boring watching them take 3-4 steps backwards to allow the ball to drop verses moving into the incoming
ball aggressively and taking it as it came up off the court.

I am astounded that we have a 2 bounce TT community.

Two bounce ?

If you watch the video someone linked, that advanced player sometimes taketh the ball on the 3rd bounce. That's really an art since the ball has losteth height and speed. The player has to generateth his own speed, which even pros sometimes find hardeth to do leading to the odd error.
It is very hard, believeth me.

But what makes him a legend here? Not his tennis, from what I just saw ...

I chose "other." Played recreational tennis, fanatically, for many years. Now obsessed with watching tennis (was not obsessed when I played, also back then, there were only slams on TV, only watched finals and semis) and online posting on tennis. The online posting is a definite addiction for me--if there are well informed posters then it's interesting to compare impressions of a match, talk about what's going on in the game in general. You do get more info doing this.

your "other" is very high, me included, which means just fan, not player..surely a big category

interesting to know, but I never got the sense there was a high percentage of people associated with tours...mainly rec players who watch tennis...and folks who watch tennis but don't play, or haven't played in a while...would be surprised if those aren't the biggest categories by far

Thanks! I will add Fan, but don't play" to the list. So far the majority are enthusiastic rec players. Many thanks for all the votes cast!

I see a lot of people saying that "played quite well XX years ago and is back to the sport".

In my case, started recently and got addicted.

Could add this 2 options.
