Why can't people like both Federer and Nadal?

But man, that's what we can read here EVERYDAY! What if he had played in the nineties? ... and blablabla. Even more: in august 2010, you could still read how the HC of the USO were THE REAL SURFACE or THE ONLY MANLY SURFACE (I swear, it's not a joke). One month later, they had suddenly become so slow.
I could keep going, you know.
Well, I don't dwell on the past, and I enjoy discussing the possibilities of the future WITH a certain DEGREE OF RESTRAINT, since I don't have a sphere to gaze into everyday. That's just me.
As I said, some people like armchair quarterbacking so much that they want to make you believe their FANTASY is a FACT. Don't confuse the two of them. Just my opinion.

Baloney. It's all envy, dressed up in many different ways. But the core of this is just utter envy and disbelief that Fed had somebody to stand up to him. If he had been born 10 years earlier he would have only racked 5 or 6 slams at best.
This, in my mind, says more about your way of thinking. But well I appreciate that you can appreciatee Federers play as I just read.

I don't confuse the two of them, don't worry. I can see that you are not the kind of poster you describe here. You said that you are annoyed with Nadal fans downgrading Federer's achievements. I replied your statement: Federer's fans do that on a daily basis with Nadal. What is the difference?

Daily basis? Well, that may be true. I don't keep tab of such things. I should admit that during FO and right before Wimby, there were a lot of threads claiming everything that Rafa can accomplish...No difference. You're right to point out that some Fed's fans are also crazy. I acknowledged it in my previous post.
To a certain degree, a bit of jabbing, a bit of boasting, just for the fun of it. I'll take it. However I encountered some Rafa fans who are absolutely trolling, and inflaming everyone. In the beginning, that was fun, and man, when the thread got >100 pages and we're still walking around their convoluted, twisted logic, I drew the line.
Back to the thread, I like both players for all they represent, style, workmanship, achievements, etc. With a slight preference for Fed because his style of play is more appealing to me. That's just personal, no need to impose that on anybody else.
Enjoy the discussions :)

A select few Nadal "fans" like to use the straw argument that Fed fans are extremely frustrated over the negative head to head.
It is a bit like this kind of argument:
- You are angry!
- No I'm not.
- Yes you are!!
- Well now I am...
If I was a Nadal fan (which btw I am) and the type, I would be more frustrated about Federers supreme records, than I am about Federers negative head to head on clay against Nadal. It does not really bother me one iota. And I am not that type.

It is because Nadal always spanks Federer, so many *******s get upset, they also know deep down Nadal is the GOAT

Because a significant percentage of people on this forum are not primarily tennis fans, they are mostly "fanboys" for player X, Y or Z, hence you get silly childish discussions which rarely rise above the level of "my Xbox is better than your PS3".

thanx 4 playin brah, try not to fail so bad last next time
You haven't contributed anything. You can't just tell me I'm wrong without proving it. I proved to you why the analogy between Seabiscuit and Nadal is perfect, and you can't prove otherwise. Nadal was always the underdog against Fed outside of clay, and he not only won against him in Wimbledon and the Australian Open, he got the Career Grand Slam at 24.

Nadal is the Sea-frickin-biscuit of tennis.

I think it's because they're too wrapped up in the game/rivalry. True story-my mom is a die-hard New York Yankees fan, but she also respects (and sometimes cheers for) the Boston Red Sox (?????) I think she can do this because she's not a fanatic.

I doubt this. Maybe if you spent less time waving your hands and spewing juvenile attacks on people, but that's really stretching it and I would be giving you the benefit of the doubt. To tell you the truth, I see more artifice than substance in most of your commentary so, where you may get me may be with rhetoric but not with dialectical reasoning because I am just too strong in the use and construction of syllogisms and enthymemes for what I have seen in terms of the intellect moving behind most of your work to seriously trouble me. But I have to deliver someone's racquet right now which I strung for him and so I will see you later Ben.
I'm merely responding to your hateful post in which you debase Nadal. As I've said before, everybody's entitled to being biased, but when you lose respect for a player to the point that you accuse him of being doped with no evidence whatsoever to support it, then you become a scumbag in my book.

Accusing somebody without proof is easy and it is dangerous. People did it and got away with it all day long in naz! Germany and other totalitarian regimes. Prove it or shut your piehole. It's that simple.

Good day to you, sir.

My point is that Fed, for all his brilliancy, was trouncing the field left and right with no opposition until Nadal rose to the occasion (and how.) God bless the kid for destroying the dreams of world domination of so many extreme *******s.

dood everyfrickin1 was the underdog against fed. he was most dominant world #1 since sampras

when nadz came along he got v impressive result on all 3 surfaces was earmarked as future allround top player b4 he'd even played his first fo. it is hard to name a 17yo in the last 20-25yrs who showed as much allround chops as he did

he was not predicted to win career grand slam but then what teenager is? 2 say that this means he was completely written off n is a great underdog story is moronic

u have not proven anythin in this thread except ur own staggerin ignorance

How many players defeated Fed in his home turf? That's why Nadal is the Seabiscuit of tennis. It's not enough with not being supposed to win Wimbledon and AO against "the GOAT." You have to be able to do it.

I'm sorry you don't get it, but then again you seem to not understand that when there is a "g" at the end of a word you are not supposed to just ignore it. LMFAO.

dood seabiscuit was a horse seen 2 have hugely limited potential that started his career as a total disaster b4 comin from nowhere 2 be a huge success

nadal was one of the most promising young players to arrive on the pro circuit in a quarter of a century, who immediately got impressive results on all 3 surfaces b4 the age of 18 and straight setted one of the most dominant world number ones in history, on hardcourt, at the age of 17. he was more impressive than ne1 of the previous generation at the same age, includin federer himself. from the minute he stepped onto a pro court it was obvious the sky was the limit

ur analogy is the worst kind of fail and u really gotta be kinda braindamaged to keep defendin it. u aint foolin any1 except urself, n maken urself look even more stupid.

but, i guess thats up 2 u. peace brah

Compare the results Rafa got in AO, USO, and even Wimby by the time he was already destroying the field on clay.

Only the true fans believed he would one day take AO, but very few believed he could take USO.

Regardless of showing promise on all surfaces, most (especially the ******* camp) thought it was impossible for him to actually do it. That's why he was the underdog and against all odds claimed the Golden Career Grand Slam in USO 10.

Do you understand the meaning of the word "analogy"? Nadal is not a horse either, does that disqualify my analogy? LOL

this is ****ism at its finest. the guy has never gone out in the first round of any slam. he consistently won matches on all surfaces when he showed up 2 compete. By the time he was 20 he had made the second week of all slams and won masters on both fast n slow hardcourt as well as clay.

nobody who knew anythin bout tennis ever doubted that nadz would be a top player on all surfaces once he hit his prime. the fact he was a wizard on clay from very early doesnt change that

the fact u and a few *******s on the internet were too ignorant to realise does not make ur argument any stronger

"Unlucky, unlucky, oh yes," uncle Toni said. "If there wasn't Federer, perhaps Rafael would have been No. 1 for four years. But with Federer, that was impossible."

It's because what the players represent.

Federer is the beauty. The variety. People who likes Federer usually loves the things beautifully and perfectly done. Tends to love the shape and design of things, tends to seek for gorgeous things in their lives. It's about not being afraid of make mistakes to find the right choice. It's risky, but it worths sometimes.

Nadal is just the same thing. Over and over. Ball chaser, defensive style. Something that I dislike. I can't like that. The lack of sportmanship, the lack of education, everything.

And his numerous unforced errors, and his whiffs when he can't find the ball with his racket as well as his ugly face/

Nadal is just the same thing: beats Fed.

Nadal was destined for greatness ever since he emerged and beating reigning FO champion in Costa, while still wearing diapers. He didn't come out of nowhere, he was a world beater from day one, and was predicted to be at the top of the game from the very start.

Unforced errors because he isn't afraid to attack, to finish. A killer instinct.

Something that a basher doesn't know.
