Why does the Southern Section allow mid-year bump ups to play Sectionals?

You are exactly right about same teams in Atlanta winning all the time. It seems to me that there is less participation at my NTRP than in years past in USTA Atlanta. I don't think their leadership cares or has a clue.

In Minneapolis there are 24 4.5 level men's teams, in Atlanta, there are 12 4.5 men's team this summer. Atlanta does have ALTA, but that's only mixed in the summer. If I'm USTA Georgia, I would look at stats like this and say to myself, "perhaps I need to figure out why participation is down and what do I need to do to fix it." The rating system and sandbagging has driven away participation.
Interesting although just to clarify ALTA operates men's leagues twice a year (fall, spring) as well as mixed (summer, winter) twice a year. At least you can't sandbag indefinitely in ALTA unlike what USTA encourages...

That is correct, Men's ALTA league is spring and fall. You may say, hey, men's USTA participation is down in the summer because its just darn hot and the league is played Sundays at 4. However, the winter season participation has gone down as well.

You hit in on the mark for ALTA, you load up with good players you might win a season or 2 at the wrong leveling, but eventually, you will move to a level where you will get beat or at minimum, challenged.

20 sections --

4 groups of 5 teams each for Nationals. Each team plays 4 matches. Two semis and a final. I skipped Nationals for a team. No regrets. Our team won it and amazingly they still aren't being paid to play tennis. [emoji102]

Southern needs to be busted up with GA becoming it's own Section, NC / SC one Section, CO one Section.

USTA isn't as bad a FIFA..hardly an compliment.

Standardize the rules so Southern can't pull this crap. Mary Goins needs to spend more time with her grandkids. What I see in Southern is a lot of people who need a real life running rec tennis leagues in Southern states. Thankfully they don't make the rules for law enforcement, first responders, medical personnel.

THE UNITED STATES TENNIS ASSOCIATION OF SOUTH CAROLINA BIDS FAREWELL TO MARY GOINS, DIRECTOR OF LEAGUES

COLUMBIA, S.C. – After a 25-year tenure with the United States Tennis Association of South Carolina, Mary Goins has announced her departure. Mary managed over 20,000 league players, 16 League Coordinators and 9 annual League State Championships while serving as the Director of Leagues. “It’s been a good run for me, and great for me,” reminisced Mary.

USTA South Carolina staff enjoyed Mary’s office visits, full of smiles, hugs and laughter. She could always be counted on for a good joke or story to brighten everyone’s day. She has been an asset to the office and to the organization. Her love of tennis and dedication to growing the sport is immeasurable.

Mary has graciously agreed to continue working with USTA South Carolina until the position has been filled. The Director of Leagues position will now be located at the USTA SC office in Columbia, SC.
The United States Tennis Association of South Carolina is also looking to hire a new Junior Participation Coordinator.

Please call the USTA SC office at 803-781-2574 with any questions.

Too old for that gig. Hope they hire someone in their 30s... with an open mind and commitment to the younger players. I have already nominated @starzel [emoji23]. He lives close to Columbia. [emoji6]

SC and NC banking on 40+ 4.0 ? Didnt see those states represented in 18+ 4.0 Sectionals coming up shortly. Any insight? o_O

I am pretty sure Workman said they weren't going to Mobile for 18+ 4.0 Sectionals.

Not sure which SC team won 40+.. we were Skelton crewed for both 18+ and 40+ state championships. 8 people on most days including two guys hurt first day at 40+..

11 hour drive from CHS. NC even further to Mobile. Mobile, AL in July ? no thanks.

A little birdie told me the winning mens 18+ 4.5 team and the runners up (both from Charleston) are passing on Mobile for sectionals. I'm interested to see who SC sends as a representative or if they send one at all.

If every team told Southern, they were passing on Mobile, maybe Southern would get the hint and tell Mobile Alabama "Thanks but no Thanks "

Been there twice for Sectionals and I won't go back. Rained both times. Fool me twice shame on me..

fellow Southern friends @winchestervatennis @g4driver I have already sent this thread URL with some of Startzel's top posts to those decision makers. i think he is a shoe-in for at least a seat on the board. The voice of Startzel shall be heard!

The brackets are out and as predicted No SC team at 4.0M and 4.5M. I am competing but willing to sign a petition to block that site. it is a complete pain.
