why is Fed missed in a final.

In terms of the fitness and beauty of the game, the all-court play, the movement around the court and the fluid one-handed backhand, Fed is a joy to watch. Today's final is competitive, but it really feels dry and lacks what Fed but none others can offer.

Its like that every time there are new guys. I mean they played under a lot of pressure, I know it could have been a better final but it was competitive. In no way was it as bad as they get sometimes.

In all fairness I dont know if its better to have Federer whitewashing Roddick or someone else or to have a competitive final where none of the players play consistatly godlike. I mean its probably good to have a mix of both, some new faces holding the trophy and established ones getting back at them etc. Thats it.

Personally - it's nice to see someone else and see a competitive match. No offense to Roger or his fans meant in that response.

You got to see Fed 2 days earlier in the semi. The match would be just as enjoyable if joker had beaten Fed 2 days later in the final instead of in the semi so you didnt miss anything.

also the days of Fed playing finals versus guys with limited games like Roddick are over. the competition is tougher now.

For me it was a complete joy to see some new guys with a chance to win a slam. I would say that the level of tennis was still very good and such a breath of fresh air.

I'm glad Federer is not in the final. Its about time some new faces are in the final of a grand slam. No more Federer or Nadal winning grand slams anymore and hopefully this trend will continue.

i miss federer when he's not the finals (which is not often), but unfortunately i think if he was in the finals we wouldnt be watching the same federer from past grand slam finals. he simply wasnt anywhere near 100% the entire tournament and was lacking that competitive fire in most of his matches.

Well, I for one do NOT miss him. I have nothing against him, I just want to see some different people for a change.

yeah hearing one person winning everything is burning us tennis fans out. We want variety, and a lot of trash talking on the forums.

i don't know... seeing two young guys each fighting for their first grand slam win is pretty exciting. they are both incredibly talented, and they are young fresh faces for tennis fans to see.

I am a Fed fan

After watching the match i give credit to the Djoker, he played well, handled the crowd and won a match that could have gone either way.

That volley on breakpoint in the 4th saved the match, if tsonga would have gone crosscourt, the match might have gone to a 5th. I think Novak would have pulled it out in the end anyway.

In a way I think this is a good test for Federer, if he is the champion many of us think he is, he will respond to this loss, and possibly, we could see the best tennis fed has played yet.

Congrats to Tsonga as well, let's see what he can do during the rest of the year.

Right, it's like when Sampras was still playing & winning ALL THE TIME. I wanted him to get beat so there's a different face.

If something is so good then why do you want it to change?:confused::confused:

Once Federer retires then tennis will be total baseline bashing. Now that's boring.
See when Pete retired, we were lucky that he had a worthy successor.

Oh come on Fed spends as much time baseline bashing as anybody, he might do it with a little more flare than most but he is still a baseliner, geez Nadal goes to net more than him at Wimby.

Are you kidding what a breath of fresh air to not have boring fed in the final. There was some real excitement with 2 new players + some real drama in this match.

How great it was to not have the ego maniac fed out there giving his arrogant looks+ acting like he is a god or something. If joker stays healthy there are going to be a lot more finals without fed+ that is a true blessing!!!!!

What I don't get is all that "I'm bored of Federer" bashing.

Federer is the best player modern times have seen, It is a joy to watch him play, the elegance and beauty of his game. The same I can say about Henin.

I hope we'll get better and fully recovered from that food poisoning soon and will be winning again and finally get the GOAT recognition.

I like the other players too, I like Djokovic, Tsonga, etc. but I want to see Federer end his career with glory and then the other young boys can come to get the place.

I agree it will be a sad day when he and Justine retire and we are only left with 2-handed, big-racketed, shrieking/grunting/feet-squeeking baseline hard-hitters...

Tennis will become a boring sport.

I thought the final was great tennis, and a huge part of it was knowing that regardless of the outcome, there would be a first time slam winner.

I think it's refreshing. To see someone other than Fed (or Nadal) in a final. It's more exciting, change is good. I like Fed, but I see him play ALL THE TIME. I don't even like Joko.

I like to see guys who are guys play tennis, not prima donnas always stroking their hair.

you couldn't say it better :)

I like to watch Roger but come on it's time for new faces, actually i think that Federer's los in semis is the best thing that happened to tennis from time when Fed was doing the same on Pete and Agassi.

Can't disagree, tennis is becoming a boring sport "to watch". It happened when the last of the serve-and-volleyers disappeared.

Playing tennis is the fun part for me.

Being a Roger fan, I have to say that this is a great sum up. The match was definitely entertaining, and both played their hearts out. There isn't much more a fan could ask for.

I completely agree. The djokovic-tsonga match felt like a 3rd round match. It just didn't have that sparkle that a final well lets say...the federer-nadal wimbledon 2007 final. That had it all and the djokovic/tsonga match was 1/2 as good compared to that wimbledon final.

Yup, same here. But at least Pete wasn't in the finals of all Grand Slams a few years in a row. Roger's dominance is boring in my opinion, not Roger himself. His game's great... ;)
